This may be a stupid question because I am the only person in the world that uses Blog View, but has something gone weird with it lately?

New threads are just not turning up on blog view at all. Or maybe it's not just new threads, but it seems random which threads turn up on blog view and which ones go missing.

But either way, it's looking mighty weird?

Thanks in advance if you have a moment to check this out.

If you send me links to some threads that aren't showing I'll take a look

The threads that do not turn up in Blog view are:

'John Carter,' aka the Edgar Rice Burroughs 'A Princess of Mars' adaptation
(John Carter)
and

I just tried it, they both appear on my blogview, strange.

Mark G, Friday, 17 February 2012 12:51 (twelve years ago) link

That's weird. I thought at first it might be that those threads were on boards I had chosen not to display? But unfortunately sports threads still turn up on the blog view even when they're hidden from SNA.

The only thing I've done differently recently is I turned images off due to bandwidth issues. I'll try switching them back on and see if the threads reappear.

White Chocolate Cheesecake, Friday, 17 February 2012 12:57 (twelve years ago) link

Nope, it's not having images turned off.

But unfortunately sports threads still turn up on the blog view even when they're hidden from SNA.

The good folk at I Love Football decided in their wisdom that the English Premier League was so ubiquitous and Bestest League In Teh World that it deserved an ILE audience so you can't hide that without hiding the biggest board.

Ayn Rand is now turning up in blog view! Not that I really needed to see the thread, but it seems like something has been fixed, so thank you, whatever it was that did the trick.

in site new answers, why do the threads link to www.ilxor.com while their boards link to ilxor.com?

does one have an advantage over the other? apparently one needs to log in to both, although bookmarks do cross over . . .

mookieproof, Monday, 5 March 2012 20:14 (twelve years ago) link

yeah also if an ilx person send you a link to something with "www.ilxor.com" and you're logged in just to "ilxor.com" it doesn't work

yo can we get autoembedded tweets the way we do youtubes?

max, Monday, 5 March 2012 20:32 (twelve years ago) link

also vimeo thx

⚓ (gr8080), Monday, 5 March 2012 20:43 (twelve years ago) link

the ilxor.com/www.ilxor.com thing is intentional to let people use two diff accounts at once

I wish autodetected ilxor links would use relative URLs to avoid the problem with cross-links

valleys of your mind (mh), Monday, 5 March 2012 21:28 (twelve years ago) link

in site new answers, why do the threads link to www.ilxor.com while their boards link to ilxor.com?

It's just the way I did it - you could call it a mistake. The board link doesn't use what you are currently on, it picks it up from configuration, which is set when an admin (i.e. stet) opens the site. Stet must use ilxor.com so it set the domain to be that. The thread link just picks it up from whatever you're currently set to, so if you're ilxor.com, the thread link will show that, and if you're www.ilxor.com, the thread link will show that.

it would be cool if a poll's options were always displayed at the top of the thread

one year passes...

it feels like youtube has really switched shit up in the last year in the way of URLs, making it more and more of a task to find the kind of url

would it be difficult to write a [youtube] [/youtube] bbcode that was happy with any youtube url?

and while you're at it... vimeo?

just curious

should read: "more and more of a task to find the kind of url that ilx code will embed"

If I get a chance, Silby. I actually did Vimeo ages ago because Grady asked, but it's not deployed yet. That has its own challenges, so it won't be in the next month or so, but maybe some time after that, if Stet's got some time too.

Keith, Friday, 24 May 2013 08:17 (ten years ago) link

Wait a minute, you are Grady. I am out of touch.

Keith, Friday, 24 May 2013 08:17 (ten years ago) link

hows about an actual tag where people can just put in the 'v' number, rather than an entire link? easier to parse and you get to control the rest of the url

hi

when i'm trying to search by username, its giving me posts that used the term i'm searching, not posts by the username i'm searching

ᶓ͠סּᴥ͠סּᶔ ᶓͼ᷆ₓͼ᷇ᶔ (gr8080), Thursday, 1 August 2013 15:45 (ten years ago) link

Is working for me with "gr8080" in the lower box, search set to username and posts, or with "displayName:gr8080" in the top box, searching posts

stet, Thursday, 1 August 2013 15:54 (ten years ago) link

try "a puppy"

or "puppy"

ᶓ͠סּᴥ͠סּᶔ ᶓͼ᷆ₓͼ᷇ᶔ (gr8080), Thursday, 1 August 2013 16:33 (ten years ago) link

can someone make me a sitewide mod?

markers, Thursday, 1 August 2013 17:17 (ten years ago) link

if you search in the posts-by-a-specific-user box and use quote marks around "a puppy", you get posts with the word puppy in them.

if you search in the top box for displayName:"a puppy" you get posts by a puppy.

whateverface (c sharp major), Thursday, 1 August 2013 17:23 (ten years ago) link

so i think it's to do with how the posts-by-a-specific-user searchbox works

whateverface (c sharp major), Thursday, 1 August 2013 17:25 (ten years ago) link

gr8080 are you putting a puppy in quotes? it works if you don't.

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 1 August 2013 17:46 (ten years ago) link

yeah so if you put quotes around the search term in the user box (even if its a single word) it appears to generate a bunch of text that isnt a username, but if you leave it out of quotes it works.
