Mods, can we get our own 'I Loathe Everything (en français)' board?

The Dutch have theirs and there are quite a few francophones on ILX, so it's only fair.

It would be primarily in French, yeah, but anyone should be allowed to chime in English if they want to discuss stuff related to France or francophone culture(s) in general.

The ILX Marketplace board I created in 2011 went nowhere, with no posts in the last five years. I'd be happy for it to be renamed Je Déteste Tout and ceremoniously presented to ILX francophones. Waiting to hear from other mods and stet to see if there are any objections.

Je déteste tout, please. Only the 'J' should be uppercase.

There's also a case to be made for 'Je conspue tout'.

On verra.

I'll take both of those statements as signs of enthusiastic approval.

Is there a trick to typing accents in Chrome?

If you have a Mac, just hold the key down.

I don't know if it's Mac-specific or not, but press and hold the letter you want accented, and a small popup menu will give you numbered options. xp

Otherwise, you should be able to switch your keyboard to "Canadian - French". Idk about other Windows shortcuts.

Ah, thanks. I have a PC, but I found a Chrome extension which does the same thing.

j'utilise le clavier « U.S. International - PC » en mac pour faire facilement les accents : on appuie « option - e » pour réaliser les accents aigus par exemple

Le clavier canadien multilingue standard est le plus équilibré, à mon sens. Il est doté de toutes les touches dont on a besoin pour écrire en français mais n'empiète pas sur la saisie en anglais (c'est une sorte de QWERTY à rallonge, si l'on veut).

C'est vraiment l'horreur. Et je n'en vois pas non plus l'intérêt d'un point de vue dactylographique, à moins que ce ne soit une manière détournée de protéger l'« exception culturelle » française. À part la Belgique, aucun autre pays francophone n'emploie cette disposition (du moins à ma connaissance).

J'ai essayé quelques claviers, et je peux faire des accents en Word et Outlook (ctrl + ' + e = é), mais ça ne marche pas en Chrome. Je ne sais pas pourquoi. De toute façon, j'ai trouvé un autre moyen.

afaik literally it’s “therefore” (plus similar conjunctions) but in usage it’s like how English speakers use “so” as in “so what are we doing tonight?”

I think I usually use it to mean "therefore". In the Ottawa area, I think you can just say "so" for the second meaning you give but it's def a second language for me donc ...

I'm very happy to see this board. I've been self-learning quite a lot the past year so will be doing some heavy lurking over there.

I overuse donc and ouias because I want people to think I am thinking really hard when I just have no clue what to say.
