i just did a server restart, it's possible it lost your preference setting somehow — try resetting in preferences.

There's a thing I've noticed in Zing the last couple of days where if a post ends with quote tags, the date/timestamp gets cut off. I think quoted text is the common factor, but I can't swear to it. Here's the most recent post where I noticed it: Joe Biden, Senator from Citibank (oops, DELAWARE), to Run for President

My understanding is that removing utm tags etc (which I'm not against attempting to do) only "hurts" the people who are buying the campaigns/using the analytics service. It doesn't really affect Facebook or Google, except by diminshing the value of their analytics tools by a micro-fraction. No?

We're always much happier when our "Direct" pageviews are higher and our Facebook numbers are lower. Means we feel we don't have to depend on FB so much.

When particular posters come here to dump links and articles with nothing so much as a “why this is relevant” one-liner, and this is the majority of their posting activity, it makes me sad and annoyed.

If sic’s schtick about fbclid= tags is just a nuisance, then my personal feelings about various posters’ bullshit posting styles, which I keep almost entirely to myself, should be even less of one.

otm! The tweets also take up a lot of visual space, relative to a link post, and take longer to load. However, this is a minor annoyance of mine, like, I do not think this is a horrible thing that should be fixed. Also, I support sic's anti utm stance, though primarily because I think editing the tags out when posting the link to ilx shows consideration and intent and discipline. Like, if I have to edit the "s" and the mobile urls out of youtubes, then people can do the same with fb links.

Good news, sarahell! You don't have to do that to youtube links anymore. Just paste whatever, even the youtu.be links.

i have never understood how accurate the "most viewed threads" info is. When it says 7189 reads in the past 5 minutes, that means 5000+ people are currently viewing the thread? It just doesn't seem possible we have that many lurkers at any given time.

Would a lot of those not be search engines or something?

Looking at the code, I think the "5 minutes" bit is wrong - I suspect this is an hourly figure. (The 5 minute trigger doesn't clear the read counts). Needs a bit of attention though to be sure - eg it's clearly not counting the referrers from the site. Will dig into it when I get a mo.

just posting here to say that the issues I've had for years with my bookmarks not syncing across devices and apps no longer seems to be a problem. Not sure if that is due to changes with ILX or what, but it's a big relief for me.

I think this has to do with the way that thread title changes don't retroactively fix previous bookmarks, so I always get the old thread title?

i don't think the url was the problem... i'm guessing that the dollar sign or the colon in the thread title was breaking it. it worked when i posted the url with a different title.

dollar sign has special meaning in regexp substitutions, i think the literal dollar sign, followed by a number, confuses things when it's replacing links
