They're the only lower case links on the page, I think - at least change all the rest of the links to lower case, so I can finally quit this site.

At the risk of a cuff around the ear, is there any chance of getting capitals back on Bookmark / Flag / Link?
i am even getting complaints about this in my own home but i still say no, never, forwards not backwards! i might even write a style rule to downcase everything everywhere
xp yes I have the Remove Bookmark from this Thread capitals in my sights.

― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 3 July 2019 12:29 (six years ago)
never not lower case
― Rory end to the lowenbrow (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 3 July 2019 12:36 (six years ago)
cad can you try opening this link and do a cmd-F for ".bookmark "? It should look like this:
https://i.ibb.co/F4cHZ7w/Screenshot-2019-07-03-at-13-42-38.png
― stet, Wednesday, 3 July 2019 12:44 (six years ago)
yup, i see it.
.bookmark { margin-bottom: 0.2em; margin-right: 0.5em;}
but bookmarkflaglink is still squished together with no spaces
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 3 July 2019 13:01 (six years ago)
Well thatโs weird. Is it like that on all the Swiss variants?
― stet, Wednesday, 3 July 2019 13:22 (six years ago)
Stet: not at computer so canโt diff right now but iirc old.css constrained images to a relatively small width. Caek.css let them be full size. Good for threads like wall o gina, etc.
― ๐ ๐๐ข๐จ (caek), Wednesday, 3 July 2019 13:37 (six years ago)
destroyer just do a "super reload" using cmd-opt-R, it will get a fresh css copy
― an incoherent crustacean (MatthewK), Wednesday, 3 July 2019 13:40 (six years ago)
cmd-shift-r but that did the trick. thanking u.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 3 July 2019 14:01 (six years ago)
compared to caek.css, old.css has this for images (bad and vulgar)
max-width:85%;max-height:800px;
and this for font (caek.css uses browser default, usually TNR):
body { font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;}
― ๐ ๐๐ข๐จ (caek), Wednesday, 3 July 2019 16:09 (six years ago)
Ahh gotcha I think I remember now thanks
― stet, Wednesday, 3 July 2019 18:06 (six years ago)
still not fixed :(
― Mordy, Sunday, 7 July 2019 13:53 (six years ago)
I've made a change which should force it to update for you now
― stet, Monday, 8 July 2019 22:00 (six years ago)
sorry to report... :/
― Mordy, Tuesday, 9 July 2019 13:36 (six years ago)
tried it in chrome + safari both
Can you just check it's not happening on all stylesheets -- does old.css work, for instance?
― stet, Tuesday, 9 July 2019 14:00 (six years ago)
not a problem in old.css
― Mordy, Tuesday, 9 July 2019 14:26 (six years ago)
Hey y'all, I'm noticing a thing lately where if a url is posted with a closed parenthesis at the end, that closed parenthesis shows up in the post as plain text rather than as part of the url, which leads to an error when you click the (now incorrect) link. Like so:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Downey_(comedian)
NBD, just thought you should know.
― Welcome To My Lifemare (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 18 September 2019 18:11 (six years ago)
That has been happening since forever.
― brigadier pudding (DJP), Wednesday, 18 September 2019 18:24 (six years ago)
Which, as anyone familiar with my observational skills can tell you, in no way contradicts my having just now noticed it.
― Welcome To My Lifemare (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 18 September 2019 18:28 (six years ago)
if you feel fancy you can replace the ) at the end with %29 when you post a link
― a passing spacecadet, Wednesday, 18 September 2019 18:30 (six years ago)
ty, I will employ that when fanciness next overtakes me.
― Welcome To My Lifemare (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 18 September 2019 18:36 (six years ago)
I agree - or not, since you said it was NBD - it is mildly bothersome, btw, but I don't know how often it happens the other way round, i.e. someone actually posts a parenthesis-less link inside parentheses and doesn't leave a space
theoretically the link finder could check whether the opening bracket is after the http or before but if we try to make it aware of all possibilities we'll bring SkyNet online before we know it
(I may try this line next time my boss asks for something I don't want to do)
― a passing spacecadet, Wednesday, 18 September 2019 18:43 (six years ago)
ever since twitter changed their site, links through to twitter posts on desktop - i.e. when images are off and you want to click through to see the tweet - usually result in a 'something went wrong' page on twitter, which stays that way even if you hack the referrer string off the URL! copying and pasting the tweet URL without the referrer string into a new browser window works. odd. i'm on Opera on a Mac.

The parentheses bug is a more general message board code issue, I think? Or at least I've seen it happen on other boards too that use BBCode.
― Tuomas, Thursday, 19 September 2019 10:15 (six years ago)
Ffm, I think you meant (((Jesus
― pplains, Thursday, 19 September 2019 12:09 (six years ago)
I will quit my job (programming, where we respect parenthesis symmetry) for this cause. )))

Getting a 'poxy fule' error when I try to create a new poll, y'all.

― pplains, Tuesday, 24 September 2019 16:06 (six years ago)
by feature are you referring to the disabling of polls or regular reminders that I am a poxy fule

well, since you asked, which one of those is really a new feature?

― coup de twat (suzy), Wednesday, 9 October 2019 09:39 (six years ago)
Working for me - are you using a content blocker of any type?
― stet, Wednesday, 9 October 2019 13:28 (six years ago)
Works now, thanks!
― coup de twat (suzy), Wednesday, 9 October 2019 15:29 (six years ago)
yo, why do posts at top of long threads not load anymore? is this an intentional design decision or a bug? because it's very bad (imho)
if it's intentional can we at least get an option to toggle off?
thx,-flopson
― flopson, Friday, 8 November 2019 20:03 (six years ago)
Definitely not intentional. Got a link to an example thread please?
― stet, Friday, 8 November 2019 22:41 (six years ago)
What's changed with the signoff lines? There's no space after the comma any more. Ie

I just tried to flag a really old post (mostly for comedy purposes; in what universe Seal indefensible? c'mon man) and got a stack trace:

Feel free to delete if you don't want stack traces publicly posted on the site; was mostly wondering if this is a known issue tied to old data, indication that something is screwy with my authentication, or an actual problem.

― stet, Tuesday, 12 May 2020 18:41 (six years ago)
ok,
love* in the time of plague (and by love* i mean brexit* and other dreary matters of uk politics)
that image shows as a broken link to me. it's a convoluted fbcdn url, but i've seen the same thing with twitter images. the broken link isn't the problem though. when i right click and view image i can see the image fine, but then i can't get back to the original page - the back button is greyed out, the back on the context menu is greyed out. why would that be?
(firefox, mac)
