Hey Zing is crashing on load for me now. I tried to check for an update but none was listed.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Saturday, 19 November 2016 05:08 (nine years ago)

Sorry not on load. It loads, but when I select a board, it crashes to desktop (or whatever the equiv is on a phone), this is on iOS

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Saturday, 19 November 2016 05:09 (nine years ago)

Which iOS?

stet, Saturday, 19 November 2016 09:26 (nine years ago)

fine for me in ios10

Autumn Almanac, Saturday, 19 November 2016 10:23 (nine years ago)

TBH re: Lucene, I only used it because the database didn't support full text indices at the time, so ideally a pretty complicated mechanism involving batch processes and all manner of stuff keeping the search index up-to-date in line with the database could be removed and replaced with a bit of SQL.

Keith, Saturday, 19 November 2016 11:20 (nine years ago)

That describes most Enterprise Architecture tbh.

/replaces whole thing with 19 micro services.

stet, Saturday, 19 November 2016 13:12 (nine years ago)

Ha, well I don't really buy the micro services trend, but certainly, perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

Keith, Saturday, 19 November 2016 17:44 (nine years ago)

The Weeknd thread is not loading for me on Zing, strangely. Maybe it's the stars?

schwantz, Saturday, 19 November 2016 18:08 (nine years ago)

Not a big deal and I am probably the only person using Windows Phone browser, but it is weird that I have to confirm every bookmark

los blue jeans, Saturday, 19 November 2016 23:13 (nine years ago)

Sorry this is weird - whatever was causing it to crash on the weekend, its fine now! Odd.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Sunday, 20 November 2016 22:20 (nine years ago)

every now and again when i hit submit post im asked to log in again instead. the username field is filled with gibberish when this happens.

not good enough imo.

stet, Sunday, 20 November 2016 22:27 (nine years ago)

sad, soul-crushing lol

Fixed the Weeknd thread at least.

Thank you!

my job is convincing people to write good single-purpose domain-specific services right now but it makes sense since they're all operations every damn app does and they all implement it different ways. half of those ways are to just hammer on the same database tables 24/7

ilx is not any of these things, thank god

mh 😏, Sunday, 20 November 2016 23:01 (nine years ago)

This could have been the motto of poxy fule-era ILX tbf

search is still hanging sometimes for me - seems to be specific threads that are causing it, e.g. i searched for all threads started by iatee and the first 2 pages of results loaded fine but the 3rd will not

ciderpress, Tuesday, 29 November 2016 18:09 (nine years ago)

Post search seems to be working fine, thread search seems to be working not fine.

i need microsoft installed on my desktop, can you help (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 29 November 2016 18:20 (nine years ago)

i regret to inform the mods that the search feature is lagging for me too, preventing me from finding the gucci mane thread. maybe this will be enough to finally inspire some action from the leadership but i'm not hopeful.

That sounds like a lot of work. I'm already putting my energy toward generating content for this site.

I get banner ads on every thread while logged in on my work computer.

one month passes...

any idea why the board kept timing out on me this morning when i tried to start an ILM thread with the terms "ILM" and "77" in the title?

gr8080, Monday, 23 January 2017 21:43 (nine years ago)

I think it was a login problem. There's a funny situation you can get into where you're logged in but the site thinks you aren't. Clues are ads showing up and 77 not showing up in Search.

stet, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 11:46 (nine years ago)

i did see some ads!

gr8080, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 13:34 (nine years ago)

it was weird tho, i tried for a good 20 mins or so, and when i dropped that extra "7" in there it took right away

gr8080, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 13:35 (nine years ago)

First rule of 77 board is you don't talk about 77 board.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 13:44 (nine years ago)

ohhhh I know what it is: when you start a new thread it does a search to see if there are possible duplicates; the search is buggered right now so it times out on some small searches.

stet, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 13:51 (nine years ago)

Ten bucks says back in the heyday somebody asked for some rule to stop people from making threads about 77 on non-77 borads and because that was such a golden age one of somebody actually did it because STFU

gr8080, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 14:01 (nine years ago)

why am I being asked to confirm my bookmarks?

Al Moon Faced Poon (Moodles), Saturday, 28 January 2017 21:43 (nine years ago)

Either you have "traditional" bookmarks setting turned on in prefs, or you're using a device that it thinks is a mobile.

stet, Saturday, 28 January 2017 22:10 (nine years ago)

I posted this question a while ago to another thread, but no one answered, maybe this would be a better place for it:

Why does ILX have two URLS, www.ilxor.com and ilxor.com, both of which require a separate login? I normally log in via www.ilxor.com, and often someone adds a link to some thread, but the link address has just ilxor.com, which means that if I open the link I have to login again, change site preferences, etc. What's the point of keeping these two separate, couldn't one of them just redirect to the other?

Tuomas, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 11:13 (nine years ago)

it's for when somebody in your life is on you about posting too much on ilxor.com, then you can say "no no, I'm much more disciplined now, I'm really posting a lot less to ilxor.com" and technically still be telling the truth because you were logging in & posting to a thread about some reissue whose name you'd already forgotten by the time you hit post on www.ilxor.com, instead of doing the same thing on ilxor.com. and vice versa. vital service imo

though she denies it to the press, (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Tuesday, 7 February 2017 12:38 (nine years ago)

What's the point of keeping these two separate, couldn't one of them just redirect to the other?

If you remember, there used to be *four* URLS -- ilx.wh3rd.net and ilx.p3r.net all used to work as well. We did once make them all point to www.ilxor.com but people complained because they would log in to one site as one sock and another site as another.

Which is a terrible reason, really. Perhaps we should just canonicalise it. Would help with the SEO too probably.

stet, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 12:47 (nine years ago)

if there was just some way to manually edit a url once it's in the address bar. probably we are years if not decades away from that technology.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 14:19 (nine years ago)

if urls were converted to be relative to the root then the browser would fill in the right host.

/ILX/ThreadSelectedControllerServlet?boardid=56&threadid=85944&action=showall&bookmarkedmessageid=6201546 <- relative, ok for both

(this, of course, won't work and i'll look like an idiot)

koogs, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 14:44 (nine years ago)

stet, i think if you set the domain of the cookie to be ".ilxor.com" it will be shared between www.ilxor and ilxor so you'll stay logged in and keep your prefs etc

just another (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 7 February 2017 15:24 (nine years ago)

that'll confuse sandbox.ilxor.com tho

stet, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 15:40 (nine years ago)

so, uh, what's going on with the search function?

schrute dwyte (unregistered), Tuesday, 7 February 2017 15:45 (nine years ago)

i accidentally broke it during the last upgrade; I'm working on the fix now, but it'll be a little while yet

I am a little surprised that I am as sad that right now I can't, for example, look up the first time someone used the word "dickhole" on the site as I am.
