i like the spelled-out durations and am looking forward to tuomas reposting them in finny

mookieproof, Wednesday, 24 August 2016 23:24 (nine years ago)

maybe we could have it say "twenty-two time minutes ago" so that I don't mistake "minutes" for units of angle

veggie sticks potato snacks (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 24 August 2016 23:27 (nine years ago)

when is the anglocentricism going to stop

we should be more friendly to other languages

vive la revolution

F♯ A♯ (∞), Wednesday, 24 August 2016 23:33 (nine years ago)

Stupid bug in Zing has borked it, sorry about that. Quick fix is to delete it and reinstall.

stet, Wednesday, 24 August 2016 23:34 (nine years ago)

Search will be back once the indexes are rebuilt, coming soon

stet, Wednesday, 24 August 2016 23:35 (nine years ago)

And search should be back!

stet, Thursday, 25 August 2016 00:02 (nine years ago)

you're doing god's work stet

F♯ A♯ (∞), Thursday, 25 August 2016 00:05 (nine years ago)

stettycakes

search is a no worky slowy

F♯ A♯ (∞), Thursday, 25 August 2016 00:19 (nine years ago)

Are you doing a complex search? Basic ones are rattling along for me here. The index doesn't get updated in real-time though, so you can't see new posts instantly in search

stet, Thursday, 25 August 2016 00:24 (nine years ago)

Searched your terrible ideas

Seems a bit slow but could be my connection

F♯ A♯ (∞), Thursday, 25 August 2016 00:32 (nine years ago)

I used to have to press submit twice now it works first time

Godlike prowess imo stet

poor fiddy-less albion (darraghmac), Thursday, 25 August 2016 00:42 (nine years ago)

the "x minutes ago" portion of each post now spells out the numbers? this is charming, but is it intentional?

call all destroyer, Thursday, 25 August 2016 00:54 (nine years ago)

Yeah, it's a new bit of Keith code that.

stet, Thursday, 25 August 2016 01:37 (nine years ago)

i much prefer the numerals so i would like to be given a choice but if this is just how it is now i will live with it

esempiu (crüt), Thursday, 25 August 2016 01:39 (nine years ago)

also i just noticed: i have images off; this used to mean youtube embeds were also turned into links, but this no longer seems to be the case

esempiu (crüt), Thursday, 25 August 2016 01:41 (nine years ago)

Yeah, I messed up the filter for those; will fix that but not tonight

stet, Thursday, 25 August 2016 01:42 (nine years ago)

Yeah, it's a new bit of Keith code that.

cool, i'm into it

call all destroyer, Thursday, 25 August 2016 01:44 (nine years ago)

I'd prefer if it stays this way.

Treeship, Thursday, 25 August 2016 01:48 (nine years ago)

wonder what's changed

mh 😏, Thursday, 25 August 2016 01:59 (nine years ago)

"x minutes ago" portion of each post now spells out the numbers? this is charming

charming, yes, but it does take more mental effort to derive the information, just as it would if the code changed to display:

August Twenty-Fourth, Two Thousand Sixteen, Six:Fifty Nine Post Meridian

a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Thursday, 25 August 2016 02:08 (nine years ago)

you can handle it, big guy

call all destroyer, Thursday, 25 August 2016 02:10 (nine years ago)

i have images turned off but still get youtube embeds. no big deal, just fyi

brimstead, Thursday, 25 August 2016 02:18 (nine years ago)

I preferred the numbers as well.

heaven parker (anagram), Thursday, 25 August 2016 10:13 (nine years ago)

This has apparently affected Mobile Device Interface somehow? When I try to access it through Firefox on Android, I get a message that begins:

This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it.

how's life, Thursday, 25 August 2016 10:20 (nine years ago)

Can't find the Mobile Device Interface at all, actually. Was it nuked?

how's life, Thursday, 25 August 2016 10:21 (nine years ago)

Oh yes, nuked. I'll see if I can rehabilitate it if you use it a lot.

stet, Thursday, 25 August 2016 10:41 (nine years ago)

Actually, I probably won't. Google are punishing us for not having a mobile-friendly main site, so fixing that is probably the best solution of all

stet, Thursday, 25 August 2016 10:42 (nine years ago)

the "numbers written as words" is the best new feature in forever, please keep

blafe and sand (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 25 August 2016 12:13 (nine years ago)

plz convert all units of time to minutes

ninety-eight minutes ago
five hundred twelve minutes ago
five million, seven hundred eighty-five thousand, five hundred sixty minutes ago

aaaaaaaauuuuuuuuu (melting robot) (WilliamC), Thursday, 25 August 2016 12:39 (nine years ago)

(one minute imago)

johnny crunch, Thursday, 25 August 2016 12:43 (nine years ago)

The 'numbers written as words' thing is making me feel like Laura Linney's co-worker in You Can Count On Me post-Broderick.

An Automatic Response To Things That Are Bullshit (Old Lunch), Thursday, 25 August 2016 12:48 (nine years ago)

Let's poll this amirite

heaven parker (anagram), Thursday, 25 August 2016 13:03 (nine years ago)

stet, is there any programming magic you can do to fix all these shit opinions?

Al Moon Faced Poon (Moodles), Thursday, 25 August 2016 13:05 (nine years ago)

Marge Simpson: Look at this place. The house number is spelled out with letters.

Max Power: Get used to it, honey. From now on we'll be spelling everything with letters.

johnny crunch, Thursday, 25 August 2016 13:45 (nine years ago)

I love server restarts because it means blog view will work for at least a few days before wandering off again.

aaaaaaaauuuuuuuuu (melting robot) (WilliamC), Thursday, 25 August 2016 14:33 (nine years ago)

I pointed out the flaw in Keith and stet allowing posting functionality many years ago in a classic post in a classic suggest ban thread

poor fiddy-less albion (darraghmac), Thursday, 25 August 2016 14:34 (nine years ago)

Yeah, I've always found the presence of that stupid 'Submit Post' button bothersome.

An Automatic Response To Things That Are Bullshit (Old Lunch), Thursday, 25 August 2016 14:59 (nine years ago)

why would anyone prefer words to numbers in this case? it's horrible imo. "27" can be digested much quicker than "twenty-seven"

chicken lit (rip van wanko), Thursday, 25 August 2016 16:12 (nine years ago)

whoa, YouTube videos are embedded now! (even if images are turned off!) took me by surprise

i think i like it, actually

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 25 August 2016 16:20 (nine years ago)

My god the digestion

poor fiddy-less albion (darraghmac), Thursday, 25 August 2016 16:22 (nine years ago)

I like the words, but think it probably should be a style option.

Youtube embeds on images off is definitely a mistake (why would you be okay w/ youtubes if you're not okay with images?) but I see stet is aware of the issue.

emil.y, Thursday, 25 August 2016 16:25 (nine years ago)

The numbers as words thing just means that the message signature is even more often longer than the message, especially when reading on my phone because it's narrow.

koogs, Thursday, 25 August 2016 18:18 (nine years ago)

The message 3 above this one is one line of text, 3 lines of metadata

koogs, Thursday, 25 August 2016 18:20 (nine years ago)

can any value above forty be expressed in scores, please?

chicken lit (rip van wanko), Thursday, 25 August 2016 18:26 (nine years ago)

have we ever discussed moving the board over to discourse.org

i kid i kid

Is this update available in the US? to all? Is it an artifact of the maintenance?

I Don't Sound Like Nobodaddy (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 25 August 2016 18:56 (nine years ago)

I is on 3.0.

I Don't Sound Like Nobodaddy (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 25 August 2016 18:59 (nine years ago)

But I see nothing I know nothing.

I Don't Sound Like Nobodaddy (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 25 August 2016 19:02 (nine years ago)

You mean the Zing update? That is still waiting on Apple

stet, Thursday, 25 August 2016 19:24 (nine years ago)

I put this in another thread, but stet/keith or whoever is in charge of code these days is more likely to notice it here:

After yesterday's maintenance I find I must log in to ILX every time I start my browser afresh. I allow cookies from ilxor.com and I check the Remember Me box each time I log in. Doesn't seem to make any difference. (I'm using IE11 on Win7. All upgrades installed afaik.)

wassup wit dat?
