Whilst we're on youtube embeds, they haven't been displaying on iPad safari and chrome for a while. it might be a problem with the css, I can get it to occur in chrome or safari with old.css, new.css and newold.css. Where the youtube should be you just get whitespace.

Stet how many regular users does ILE and ILM get each day?
Taking yesterday because it's easy, there were:
11,078 unique IPs visiting ILE13,896 unique IPs visiting ILM
(Some of those IPs represent big blocks of users, though - eg the whole NHS shows up as one IP)
Also, I know you have said before you can tell 90% of users use SNA, but can you tell how many SNA users have it so they cant see anything from ILM?
343 (!)

Add around 4500 Zing users to that regular users total as well (double !!, though they're mostly Zing Free. That'd have been a really great pint, otherwise).

I started one as an into to android programming until I realised how much work it was going to be and how much easier it would be just to change the stylesheet to alleviate all my niggles - stuff like making the bookmark link bigger and easier to hit, fixing the tiny text box and menus...

search by 'thread title' could use a 'most recently updated' option
― mookieproof, Thursday, 7 August 2014 02:49 (nine years ago) link
That would be a useful feature.
― how's life, Thursday, 7 August 2014 12:53 (nine years ago) link
people have talked about this in the past, i'm pretty sure, but it might be cool to think about letting us hide threads. like, not sure how many people would use it or if i would want to use it, but it might, might work
― markers, Thursday, 7 August 2014 12:55 (nine years ago) link
it would also probably change the dynamics of the board at least a little
― markers, Thursday, 7 August 2014 12:56 (nine years ago) link
makers is correct as ILM would improve x 100000000000000 if it was possible to hide those dreadful polls algerian goalie, some dude and johnny fever insist on inflicting on the board.

This has been suggested multiple times and would definitely be useful. Also being able to see the number of posts in each thread in a search result.

You can. "Hide Polls" in settings. Or, make like me and just leave ILM off your SNA list heh.

twitter has a patent on that shit. be careful
you know what would be cool -- a 'remove bookmark' and/or 'mark as read' link that appears next to the thread link on site new answers (or any board view)
i feel like mine build up and then i can usually glance at the title and be like 'i dont need this rn' or 'i have seen the clusterfuck unfolding and will bide my time' or 'why is this even bookmarked'

I wish bookmark links didn't have showall=true by default - opening up a big thread via a link to an early post leads to browser meltdown.

the search function seems to have trouble parsing double quotation marks, fyi.
for instance, try searching for thread Donald Fagen, "Sunken Condos" (2012).
these search terms are successful:
sunken
these search terms are not successful:
"donald fagen sunken condos 2012""donald fagen sunken"condoscondos""sunken condos""condos" 2012"
in general, if a word in a thread title or post is bounded to the right by a" double" "quotation" 'mark", it won't show up in the search results for that particular word. and if a string of words in a thread title or post is partly quoted and partly unquoted, it won't show up in the search results for that particular string unless the search inquiry reproduces the post's typography (w/r/t quotation marks) precisely.
...or something like that. I notice that the problem only seems to affect posts from about 2006 onwards. for example, just about every year since 2004 there has been a detrius thread with the exact same formatting in the title:
This is the thread where we discuss matters pertaining to the detrius that accompanies the "End of the Year in Cinema" -- 2004 (started by Eric H. (Eric H.) on board I Love Everything on Dec 2, 2004)This is the thread where we discuss matters pertaining to the detrius that accompanies the "End of the Year in Cinema" -- 2005 (started by Eric H. the search term "detrius" (with or without quotes) pulls up all detrius threads from 2004 onwards. but the search term "end of the year cinema" only pulls up the 2004 and 2005 threads.
tldr double quotes are problematic for the ilx search function. I just thought I should point out this issue.

technically we could sidestep the issue from now on by unilaterally agreeing to only use British-style 'single quotes', but I find this be a completely un("USA! USA! USA!")acceptable solution.

― 𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Wednesday, 15 April 2015 17:27 (nine years ago) link
google only works so well though, xpost. for one thing it doesn't allow you to search for individual posts (you can use google to find threads that mention both Ron Sexsmith and Devendra Banhart, but you'll have to sort through a lot of noise if you're only interested in a particular post that mention both of those gentlemen)
on the other hand the ilx search function doesn't permit thread-wide searches, which is a limitation of its own.
― the geographibebebe (unregistered), Wednesday, 15 April 2015 17:31 (nine years ago) link
