Bookmarks not working?

I can't seem to bookmark the rolling pop 2010 thread, no matter what I do. some of my other bookmarks work correctly. this is a new account btw, created about a week or two ago.

had this happen before with a thread. iirc clearing my bookmarks & starting over solved the problem, but you might want to wait until someone who knows better how this stuff works to come by before you do anything if you already have a long list of bookmarks

I have tried now from both browsers (safari and firefox) to set a bookmark in a thread, but when I go to my bookmarks page, there's nothing there. (Even though the thread has new answers, nothing turns up at the top of my page, either.)

Anyone else having this trouble?

(I don't have any old bookmarks to clear, so that's not the problem.)

It let me make a bookmark on this thread no problem. It just doesn't want to with the spirituality/religion thread. Has that thread been de-idexed or something weird?

from what I've noticed (as detailed earlier in the thread), if you go to a thread that's had a lot of posts over a short space of time, then you can't add a bookmark. Wonder if stet ever got anywhere with it?

bugger all, sorry. is really hard to reproduce -- even after auto-posting at a huge rate to a new thread I couldn't duplicate it.

when I logged in this morning all my bookmarks had disappeared. it's not a big deal as I didn't have too many bookmarks anyway but was wondering if there was something wrong on my end or was it just server hiccups?

All of my bookmarks are gone now too (excepting one that I added today).

One longshot theory I have is that I might have accidentally hit the "Delete All Bookmarks" button, but I doubt it very much.

They don't appear to be working again now, at least not for me.

Try logging out then logging back in; there will be some cache issues going on right now.

Mine have all vanished. Logout didn't bring them back. Is it all over? ;_;

Delete all your bookmarks every few weeks, it's the only way.

I had very few threads bookmarked and nothing that had been posted to in the last year or so, so I'm not sure. But I am having weird issues with the open bullets that indicate new posts. Some threads are showing open bullets and some still show closed bullets, even with new posts.

the thing with the bullets happens periodically when stet or whomever is tinkering with stuff. i'm kinda curious exactly what is being reset, but am probably too ignorant to fully understand.

The bullet thing is only strange in its inconsistency from thread to thread. No biggie.

I can still see all your bookmarks in the database. I'll force-empty the caches to reload them from disk and see if that helps.

They're still cleared, but I only had 3 so I'm adding them again

I deleted all mine a couple of hours ago, so I can't say.

no tuomas but losing the open circles every month or so is basically the only problem i have with my otherwise excellent ilx experience, seriously the most annoying shit ever

i love when the bullets reset because i don't instinctively click on shit threads that i accidentally opened on my phone

Oh, never mind, I was not aware that page existed, have only ever removed a bookmark from the thread page.

This new thing of bouncing to the top of the thread whenever I hit "Bookmark" is really annoying.

Agree, any chance you could change it back? I tend to just click 'site new answers' at the bottom of the page to get back to my list of bookmarks on SNA.

I persevered with an open mind but it's slowly driving me bonkers, mainly because I elect to do one thing and the interface does two xp

in addition when you're at work and you scroll to the arse end of the thread and click 'bookmark' and suddenly origin of AIDS: "it was one guy screwing a monkey" is across the screen in 24pt

again, just drawing attention to the more salient new side-effects

I just worked out why I don't like it. It's because I click bookmark as I start reading the final post rather than after I finish - so if it's more than a single line post I don't take it in.

i also used to do that, and didn't realise until this change. It's still half-bugging me, but I do like not having to scroll or key to get back to the top

I didn't scroll to get back, I clicked SNA at the bottom left.

you need quite a deep window for that tho. and it's still two clicks

OK, will try to articulate: days are long gone when I sit and read thread from beginning to end in one sitting and then dutifully consume each update upon arrival to the end of thread. These days have been opening a thread, scrolling down to around where I want to start reading (and then read backwards and forwards), immediately bookmarking that and reading some amount before having to go on to something else. I guess this is nonstandard usage, perhaps deprecated, but I gather I might not be the only one.

I think once I've got used to not clicking Bookmark until I've read the last post I'll be in favour of this, but maybe it could be set as an option in Preferences to appease both camps?

This actually increases necessary keystrokes for me, cause now I have to press backspace twice to get to the main page.

I'm running into the issue where board names are appearing multiple times on my bookmarks page - ILE appears five times, ILM five times. I deleted all of my bookmarks and it's still happening.

Is this still a bug?

Yeah, the bug is that the bookmarks are only sorted out into categories when they're loaded from the database - when you edit them by updating/editing, then the list doesn't get resorted until they fall out the cache and need to be restored. I'll take a look

I've never gotten the hang of bookmarks. They're always up top on my browser saying there's new answers when there aren't. Is there some way to mark those threads read.. other than just opening them?

cuz opening them has no effect, to be clear.

you have to click "bookmark" on the most recent post in the thread to update your bookmark and remove it from the list. Making a post to the thread also updates the bookmark to your most recent.

(you can press the 'b' key on the keyboard to set your bookmark to the most recent post in the thread as well)

My problem is that the bookmarks are working too well, on my mobile.

I checked ilx on the whatever-the-hell-the-Samsung-browser-is-called, and like every bookmark of mine was sitting there, active and new on SNA page. Is there a synch issue?

Yes, I have logged out and logged back in. Yes, I have cleared my cache.

This is a long-standing issue, and it seems to be related to Android/Samsung/something interfering with how bookmark updates are made. Have never been able to track it down, but i'll take another look
