I can't seem to bookmark the rolling pop 2010 thread, no matter what I do. some of my other bookmarks work correctly. this is a new account btw, created about a week or two ago.

shorn_blond.avi (dayo), Friday, 3 September 2010 01:07 (fifteen years ago)

had this happen before with a thread. iirc clearing my bookmarks & starting over solved the problem, but you might want to wait until someone who knows better how this stuff works to come by before you do anything if you already have a long list of bookmarks

markers, Friday, 3 September 2010 01:44 (fifteen years ago)

I have tried now from both browsers (safari and firefox) to set a bookmark in a thread, but when I go to my bookmarks page, there's nothing there. (Even though the thread has new answers, nothing turns up at the top of my page, either.)

Anyone else having this trouble?

cymose corymb (Karen D. Tregaskin), Friday, 10 September 2010 09:33 (fifteen years ago)

(I don't have any old bookmarks to clear, so that's not the problem.)

cymose corymb (Karen D. Tregaskin), Friday, 10 September 2010 09:34 (fifteen years ago)

It let me make a bookmark on this thread no problem. It just doesn't want to with the spirituality/religion thread. Has that thread been de-idexed or something weird?

cymose corymb (Karen D. Tregaskin), Friday, 10 September 2010 09:35 (fifteen years ago)

from what I've noticed (as detailed earlier in the thread), if you go to a thread that's had a lot of posts over a short space of time, then you can't add a bookmark. Wonder if stet ever got anywhere with it?

useless chamber, Friday, 10 September 2010 09:51 (fifteen years ago)

bugger all, sorry. is really hard to reproduce -- even after auto-posting at a huge rate to a new thread I couldn't duplicate it.

stet, Friday, 10 September 2010 17:40 (fifteen years ago)

when I logged in this morning all my bookmarks had disappeared. it's not a big deal as I didn't have too many bookmarks anyway but was wondering if there was something wrong on my end or was it just server hiccups?

dayo, Wednesday, 22 September 2010 01:00 (fifteen years ago)

All of my bookmarks are gone now too (excepting one that I added today).

One longshot theory I have is that I might have accidentally hit the "Delete All Bookmarks" button, but I doubt it very much.

kkvgz, Wednesday, 22 September 2010 15:42 (fifteen years ago)

nine months pass...

They don't appear to be working again now, at least not for me.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 24 June 2011 17:11 (fourteen years ago)

Try logging out then logging back in; there will be some cache issues going on right now.

stet, Friday, 24 June 2011 17:12 (fourteen years ago)

Mine have all vanished. Logout didn't bring them back. Is it all over? ;_;

oppet, Friday, 24 June 2011 18:22 (fourteen years ago)

Is what all over?

frogbs went a-courtin' (WmC), Friday, 24 June 2011 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

My collection of bookmarks, that's all.

oppet, Friday, 24 June 2011 18:31 (fourteen years ago)

Mine have gone too, even after logging out and in again

kinder, Friday, 24 June 2011 18:33 (fourteen years ago)

Delete all your bookmarks every few weeks, it's the only way.

BIG TOONCES aka the steendriving cat (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 24 June 2011 18:40 (fourteen years ago)

I had very few threads bookmarked and nothing that had been posted to in the last year or so, so I'm not sure. But I am having weird issues with the open bullets that indicate new posts. Some threads are showing open bullets and some still show closed bullets, even with new posts.

frogbs went a-courtin' (WmC), Friday, 24 June 2011 19:08 (fourteen years ago)

the thing with the bullets happens periodically when stet or whomever is tinkering with stuff. i'm kinda curious exactly what is being reset, but am probably too ignorant to fully understand.

mookieproof, Friday, 24 June 2011 19:25 (fourteen years ago)

The bullet thing is only strange in its inconsistency from thread to thread. No biggie.

frogbs went a-courtin' (WmC), Friday, 24 June 2011 19:29 (fourteen years ago)

I can still see all your bookmarks in the database. I'll force-empty the caches to reload them from disk and see if that helps.

stet, Friday, 24 June 2011 21:53 (fourteen years ago)

any joy?

stet, Friday, 24 June 2011 21:59 (fourteen years ago)

They're still cleared, but I only had 3 so I'm adding them again

kinder, Friday, 24 June 2011 22:04 (fourteen years ago)

I deleted all mine a couple of hours ago, so I can't say.

frogbs went a-courtin' (WmC), Friday, 24 June 2011 22:08 (fourteen years ago)

lost all my bookmarks :(

no tuomas but losing the open circles every month or so is basically the only problem i have with my otherwise excellent ilx experience, seriously the most annoying shit ever

jag goo (k3vin k.), Monday, 27 June 2011 03:56 (fourteen years ago)

other than THE MODS of course http://i36.tinypic.com/6iqntf.jpg

jag goo (k3vin k.), Monday, 27 June 2011 03:57 (fourteen years ago)

i love when the bullets reset because i don't instinctively click on shit threads that i accidentally opened on my phone

Could I get a bookmark that refers to a since-deleted thread removed? Plz thank you.

ENERGY FOOD (en i see kay), Friday, 15 July 2011 22:10 (fourteen years ago)

Do they not appear in the bookmarks page? I thought they did.

stet, Friday, 15 July 2011 22:41 (fourteen years ago)

Oh, never mind, I was not aware that page existed, have only ever removed a bookmark from the thread page.

ENERGY FOOD (en i see kay), Friday, 15 July 2011 23:04 (fourteen years ago)

six months pass...

This new thing of bouncing to the top of the thread whenever I hit "Bookmark" is really annoying.

lag∞n affiliated (The Reverend), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 04:04 (fourteen years ago)

Agree, any chance you could change it back? I tend to just click 'site new answers' at the bottom of the page to get back to my list of bookmarks on SNA.

AA you too? I thought you didn't even care ;_;

stet, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 08:27 (fourteen years ago)

i might make this replace the "classic bookmarking" preference option

stet, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 08:28 (fourteen years ago)

I persevered with an open mind but it's slowly driving me bonkers, mainly because I elect to do one thing and the interface does two xp

Autumn Almanac, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 08:29 (fourteen years ago)

happy to go with the crowd though

Autumn Almanac, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 08:29 (fourteen years ago)

in addition when you're at work and you scroll to the arse end of the thread and click 'bookmark' and suddenly origin of AIDS: "it was one guy screwing a monkey" is across the screen in 24pt

Autumn Almanac, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 08:41 (fourteen years ago)

again, just drawing attention to the more salient new side-effects

Autumn Almanac, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 08:42 (fourteen years ago)

I just worked out why I don't like it. It's because I click bookmark as I start reading the final post rather than after I finish - so if it's more than a single line post I don't take it in.

ERIC CANONTA FOR PRESIDETN! (onimo), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 08:47 (fourteen years ago)

i also used to do that, and didn't realise until this change. It's still half-bugging me, but I do like not having to scroll or key to get back to the top

stet, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 08:52 (fourteen years ago)

I didn't scroll to get back, I clicked SNA at the bottom left.

ERIC CANONTA FOR PRESIDETN! (onimo), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 08:55 (fourteen years ago)

you need quite a deep window for that tho. and it's still two clicks

stet, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 08:56 (fourteen years ago)

and another page load

stet, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 08:56 (fourteen years ago)

I like the bookmarking change, but I'd be happy for it to be a preference.

treefell, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 12:49 (fourteen years ago)

NV otm, it should go for "remove bookmark" to. Take it to the top, Stet!

Flag post? I hardly knew her! (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 12:50 (fourteen years ago)

OK, will try to articulate: days are long gone when I sit and read thread from beginning to end in one sitting and then dutifully consume each update upon arrival to the end of thread. These days have been opening a thread, scrolling down to around where I want to start reading (and then read backwards and forwards), immediately bookmarking that and reading some amount before having to go on to something else. I guess this is nonstandard usage, perhaps deprecated, but I gather I might not be the only one.

for chrissakes you guys just because you have been doing something one way doesn't mean you have to do it that way forever.

it's been changed for way less than a day and i've already retrained myself.

dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 15:19 (fourteen years ago)

I think once I've got used to not clicking Bookmark until I've read the last post I'll be in favour of this, but maybe it could be set as an option in Preferences to appease both camps?

The Eyeball Of Hull (Colonel Poo), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 15:20 (fourteen years ago)

My problem is that I almost never have more than one bookmarked thread that I want to read at the top of the page. So it is almost never useful to me, and almost always annoying.

emil.y, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 15:23 (fourteen years ago)

Describes me perfectly.

lukas, Thursday, 2 February 2012 01:57 (fourteen years ago)

This actually increases necessary keystrokes for me, cause now I have to press backspace twice to get to the main page.

beachville, Monday, 6 February 2012 10:37 (fourteen years ago)

eight years pass...

I'm running into the issue where board names are appearing multiple times on my bookmarks page - ILE appears five times, ILM five times. I deleted all of my bookmarks and it's still happening.

Is this still a bug?

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 5 November 2020 03:50 (five years ago)

Yeah, the bug is that the bookmarks are only sorted out into categories when they're loaded from the database - when you edit them by updating/editing, then the list doesn't get resorted until they fall out the cache and need to be restored. I'll take a look

stet, Thursday, 5 November 2020 15:50 (five years ago)

hello, I’ve been having trouble because I’ve been unable to remove a bookmark from a thread. Is this a known thing?

surm, Friday, 6 November 2020 04:28 (five years ago)

No - want to send me the details? stet @ this site

stet, Friday, 6 November 2020 17:26 (five years ago)

I've never gotten the hang of bookmarks. They're always up top on my browser saying there's new answers when there aren't. Is there some way to mark those threads read.. other than just opening them?

maf you one two (maffew12), Friday, 6 November 2020 17:30 (five years ago)

cuz opening them has no effect, to be clear.

forever browsing the full list of answers, overwhelmed :o

maf you one two (maffew12), Friday, 6 November 2020 17:31 (five years ago)

you have to click "bookmark" on the most recent post in the thread to update your bookmark and remove it from the list. Making a post to the thread also updates the bookmark to your most recent.

stet, Friday, 6 November 2020 17:34 (five years ago)

(you can press the 'b' key on the keyboard to set your bookmark to the most recent post in the thread as well)

stet, Friday, 6 November 2020 17:34 (five years ago)

thank you!

maf you one two (maffew12), Friday, 6 November 2020 17:51 (five years ago)

one year passes...

My problem is that the bookmarks are working too well, on my mobile.

I checked ilx on the whatever-the-hell-the-Samsung-browser-is-called, and like every bookmark of mine was sitting there, active and new on SNA page. Is there a synch issue?

Yes, I have logged out and logged back in. Yes, I have cleared my cache.

pplains, Thursday, 25 November 2021 03:24 (four years ago)

This is a long-standing issue, and it seems to be related to Android/Samsung/something interfering with how bookmark updates are made. Have never been able to track it down, but i'll take another look

stet, Wednesday, 8 December 2021 14:27 (four years ago)

Saying, "It's not just you," was all I needed to hear. Thanks!
