The longlist is out, so time for this year's thread. Here are your runners:

Julian Barnes The Sense of an Ending
Sebastian Barry On Canaan's Side
Carol Birch Jamrach's Menagerie
Patrick deWitt The Sisters Brothers
Esi Edugyan Half Blood Blues
Yvette Edwards A Cupboard Full of Coats
Alan Hollinghurst The Stranger's Child
Stephen Kelman  Pigeon English
Patrick McGuinness The Last Hundred Days
AD Miller Snowdrops
Alison Pick Far to Go
Jane Rogers The Testament of Jessie Lamb
DJ Taylor Derby Day

I've been out of touch a little – haven't read any myself – but it feels like a quiet year. What's the obvious name favourite here - Hollinghurst?

Which of these have you read, which do you rate & who do you fancy for the glittering p?

Half-way through the Hollinghurst, haven't yet read any of the others. I'd have thought based on reputation plus glowing reviews he will be favourite. The only one on the list who's a must-read for me.

Having said that, I'm not sure whether I'm on the whole pleased or slightly disappointed by it so far.

seven years pass...

Is this the last time anyone mentioned the Man Brooker Prize? Well, it's going away apparently https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-47020374

It might just be a search engine issue...
