you’ve just made me recall something i’d put out of mind

as a girl, i was a rider. stable i attended had stableman working there, who lived on the grounds with his pregnant wife
he was tall gaunt taciturn expressionless man, looked a bit like david carradine, never made eye contact, spoke to no one; kids were afraid of him
his wife was tiny, ghost-pale, also silent, with big dark haunted eyes

one night, he was caught in flagrante delicto with a mare

i must have heard about it from my mother, who “forbore particulars”
don’t know what happened, all i know is one day he & his wife were gone

i was assured & reassured, emphatically, earnestly, that my beautiful beloved __________ was never his victim
but how could i ever be sure :((((((

Mr Mercer joined the House of Commons earlier this year after serving as a captain with the 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery in Afghanistan.
He brought the small Motor Cruiser with money from his military retirement and named it Pippa, after his family’s dog which died in 2014.
