If you are super-rich, you probably have an ex-leader working for you, like an overpaid tennis coach. Blair, for instance, has shilled for JPMorgan Chase, Qatar and Kazakhstan’s cuddly regime. Then there’s the modern ex-leader’s staple: giving paid speeches to rich people. Blair’s Queen Anne mansion outside London differs from the “museum of corruption” recently vacated by Ukraine’s ex-president Viktor Yanukovich chiefly in degree, taste and the period when the money was made. Both men got rich through running countries. It’s just that Blair’s version was legal.

No previous European ex-leaders made this kind of dough. Just 20 years ago the British ex-prime minister Harold Wilson was showing up at the House of Lords stricken with Alzheimer’s, led by his nurse, because he needed the daily attendance fee.

The village takes its name from Mercurey, the
Roman god and winged messenger, who was also
the god of commerce. There used to be a Gallo-
Roman temple in the climat of Clos Voyens, we
are told. Now there is a windmill on the site.

I am a believer in inherited wealth. This is not, sadly, because I have any strong personal interest here: the total amount I have received from legacies in nearly 60 years on the planet is £1,000 and a grandfather clock. It is just that I think society as a whole is stronger if some people are exempted – through no merit of their own – from the endless struggle to survive. They are well placed to help others, take long views, cultivate beauty and knowledge, and make life a bit more relaxed.

Makes me recall one of my most humiliating moment. Was in New York at some posh Hamptons do and saw this really nice dog. Said to the owner (at the packed dinner table mind) - "what kind of dog is that?". Response - "that's a pedigree coon hound".....pause.....and then I asked it "would that be from slavery times, were they used to hunt slaves?"...........cue total silence followed by "err, no - they are used to hunt raccoons". Talk about shitting the bed - let's just say I wasn't invited back....

Foreigners are useful “cannon fodder” for Isis, said an Israeli intelligence official, and did not play a role in the organisation’s hierarchy.

“They are completely useless as fighters,” said Peter Neumann, director of the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation at King’s College in London. “In a context like Isis in Syria you have all these battle-hardy Chechens and then you have some fat guy from Luton turning up.”

I dislike Rio Ferdinand, because he is endlessly arrogant, constantly making bullish bullshit statements and utterly repulsive - one of the ugliest people ever seen on a football pitch (but sure, feel free to post pictures of others who beat him in this regard), though like most ugly famous people he has probably had a string of attractive sexual partners ... a thought that makes me dislike him more and more. I greatly dislike the way he vocally and indignantly takes offence at fans despite being paid roughly 100 times what they are paid. I hate almost everything about him, really.

I thought this thread would be inspired by his comments today on so-called WAGS. I was going to say that though these comments were reported in a way that made them sound misogynistic and pathetic, the actual comments were quite reasonable and sensible.

He said: “To Jayne, becoming a mother was the best thing in the world that could have happened to her.
“She was so happy, she had always wanted to be a mum more than anything else.
“She lived to have a baby girl – that was the one thing she wanted in her life.
“The hospital laid her baby on her shoulder when she was born so she could have a moment with her.
“This would have been the best day of her life.”

“It’s just something you can’t conceive – turning off your wife’s life support machine and then going to see your new born daughter.”

Ozersky was found and pronounced dead in his Conrad Chicago hotel room on May 4, 2015, while in the city for the James Beard Foundation Awards.[19][20][21] Officials said the cause of death was awaiting further tests.[19]

Ozersky was the founder of Meatopia, a large meat-centric outdoor culinary event, which has been held in New York City for the past nine years. In 2013 Meatopia events were held in London, England and San Antonio, Texas, with more cities planned for 2014. Meatopia did not hold an event in 2013 in New York City. Each year has had a different theme such as "Slaughter of the Innocent" (baby animals), "Lamb Bam Thank You M'aam" (whole lambs), and, most recently (NYC 2012), "City Meat," in which the festival was divided up into multiple "neighborhoods" such as Offalwood, Carcass Hill, and Beaktown. Meatopia has been called "a glorious city of meat" by The Huffington Post[22] and "a bacchanal of pork, beef, lamb, chicken, duck, turkey and quail" by The New York Times.[23]

The hashtag #paracetamolchallenge has since been hijacked by others urging young people not to take part in the fad. Some have shared personal experiences. One user wrote: “My sister died from taking too much paracetamol – kids don’t do it.”

Another said: “I have liver damage at 18 years old from paracetamol overdoses, the worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life. DO NOT DO IT.”

A third wrote: “As a nurse who’s seen the devastation caused by suicide & paracetamol poisoning people need to reject #paracetamolchallege.”

On Tuesday the mother of a girl who died in 2011 after overdosing on paracetamol spoke of her devastation in an attempt to prevent other young people from making the same mistake.

three weeks pass...

NDTV rated the film 2 out of 5 stars and called the film boring enough to make almost everyone sleep. Rediff rated the film 0.5 out of 5 stars and called the film "A Slow Torture". Firstpost left the film with no rating also referring to the film as "a slog to sit through with too many unnecessary songs and diversions and not enough meat to either thrill or entertain." Indian Express movie critic gave only .5 stars and questioned "What is Ranbir Kapoor doing in a movie like this?" Rajeev Masand on ibnlive gave only one star calling it "The film limps lethargically and collapse in a predictable twist ending"
