Radiohead and globalisation

Though Radiohead's music has always carried a complex cathartic charge, simple pleasure, for better or worse, has never quite seemed his thing. He may have sold 30m albums, and from time to time been widely touted as the leader of "the world's biggest rock band", but along the way Yorke has generally given the appearance of a man who stands a better than average chance of being refused entry to a happy hour.

Still, sitting in a crowded cafe off Shoreditch High Street in east London, drinking morning tea, he has of late, he tells me a little anxiously, been trying on fun for size. It might be growing on him. Yorke is a slight, quick-witted presence; when he walks in there is not a flicker of recognition on the faces around us. You guess he likes it that way. He is wary of pretension, alive to all shades of irony. "I'm 44 now," he says, with a short laugh. "And I did start thinking, if I can't enjoy this now, when am I going to start? I'm playing it down of course. I'm actually as chuffed as Kate Winslet's dildo to be here."

Cameron isn’t evil, he’s not an asshole like Spielberg. He wants to be the new De Mille. Unfortunately, he can’t direct his way out of a paper bag. On top of which the actress is awful, unwatchable, the most slovenly girl to appear on the screen in a long, long time. That’s why it’s been such a success with young girls, especially inhibited, slightly plump American girls who see the film over and over as if they were on a pilgrimage: they recognize themselves in her, and dream of falling into the arms of the gorgeous Leonardo.

Much as I appreciate the sentiment, I'm not "speaking out", nor do I think my fancying a plump set of gazoomers is "admirable". It's just a fact that in my younger and more vulnerable years Geri Halliwell used to wobble in a way that wrecked many young men's composure and left them gibbering (cf famous Brit award skirt), and now she just looks like a suspect PE teacher at an all-girls school. I really would love to know what goes on in the heads of anyone who thinks this is a "sexy new look" or even "healthy". I have to be honest, I'm less concerned with the problems of exploitation, anorexia and other feminist bugaboos, and more concerned with the fact that between the female (well, women's mag's) perception of attractiveness and the male (well, my) perception falls one fuck of a shadow.

phile has such negative connotations. When we had the Nice Treaty referendum, the no campaign succeeded because they used scare tactics and called the Yes camp Europhiles all the time. It conjures images of filthy politicians rubbing their knees while looking at the Common Agricultural Policy or something. It worked though.

I seem to recall some bloke dressing up as Hitler and the general consensus of opinion was that he was a plank and it was a daft thing to do. I'm guessing a Himmler impression would get a similar welcome.

Kevin Cooke, Working for civil rights since I was 8.

Joel, really? You should be old enough now to know this.
The answer ( the obvious answer) is "No." There are exceptions, of course, and when they occur, they are commented upon. Black babies, pinkishWhite babies, Brownish Asian babies, are all following their parents genes and being born the natural color of their parents.

Adolf Hitler gifted King Truibhuvan of Nepal with this 1938 model Mercedes Benz, which was the first car ever seen in Nepal. It was carried to the capital by men as in 1940 there were no roads in the city.

At their core, as interesting and 'progressive' as they may seem to some, Radiohead are shrewd businessmen and pop musicians first and foremost, and radical art experimentalists somewhere much further down the line.

Anyway, the actual losing of the virginity. I was 19. It was in halls. January. She was younger, but much more experienced in terms of actual sex. I was a virgin but not that innocent. The intercourse itself didn't last long, and I don't think I came, but we spent 16 hours in a room together. She boasted that she could swallow more spunkt han any man could produce during oral. I beat her. It ended up in her hair and on her back. At one point, several hours later, she was sick on me. The soundtrack was varied over the course of the night, but during the actual sex it was Godspeed You Black Emperor. I'm a bit better at it these days.

which brings us to radiohead;
we don't know radiohead,
we've never met them or communicated with them in any way,
some people in godspeed like their music others don't...
the fact remains, radiohead are owned, part and parcel, by a gigantic multinational corporation, and their critique of global corporatism is tainted by that one harsh reality

Product Description

High end reverb & pitch shifting expansion cartridge for the Tiptop Audio zDSP Voltage Controlled Signal Processor. Coded and designed by Sean Costello from Valhalla DSP, purveyors of well regarded effects plugins.

The Z-DSP Shimmer cartridge has 8 original algorithms, designed to combine lush reverberation with multiple voices of pitch shifting, to create ethereal pads, rich chordal textures, dissonant clouds of sound, and a variety of other sounds that are perfect for electronic music. The algorithms are customized to work with the Tiptop Audio Z-DSP Eurorack module.

There are 6 reverb algorithms in the Z-DSP Shimmer cart, arranged in order of complexity:

Fast Shimmer: A modulated reverb that quickly decays away into an endlessly pitch shifting tail. The shift interval can be set between +/- 12 semitones. Perfect for that classic “octave up” shimmer sound.
Slow Shimmer: Similar to Fast Shimmer, but with a much slower attack.
Dual Shimmer: Two pitch shifted voices, embedded within a larger modulated reverb network, shifting the reverb decay in both positive and negative directions. Try slowly sweeping the Shift control in this mode for ridiculously cinematic sounds.
Triple Shimmer: Two pitch shifted voices embedded within the reverb decay network, plus a third voice external to the network. This allows the user to have a reverb with +12 and -12 semitones of feedback, plus a stable +7 semitones voice without feedback.
Quad Shimmer: Four pitch shifted voices feeding into a lush modulated reverb. This allows for a variety of dissonant and consonant chordal textures, with the max Shift setting corresponding to a rich major chord.
ClusterVerb: Four pitch shifted voices embedded within the feedback network of a modulated reverb. The result quickly becomes dissonant or metallic. Perfect for insta-Ligeti, or Penderecki In A Box™.
