I always assumed Chuck Tingle was purposefully churning out this stuff as a joke/satire/money-making-in-the-new-self-publish-era experiment but that son's AMA is really sweet. And screw the sad puppies for using the guy as ammunition for the Hugo debacle, joke's on them because he's better than their serious misogynist candidates.

Basically I'm hoping the AMA is not a lie because pretending to suffer from mental health problems for a laugh is pretty reprehensible. If, on the other hand, it is true, then it's kind of heartwarming, as well as hilarious and weird.

I posted those images before reading the AMA, but I agree with JCLC and Will M.: the AMA seems like another (more distasteful) layer of fiction, and it's very hard not to read his twitter as a sustained performance.

Well, yeah, which tallies with my initial assumption that the series was a 'joke' (using scare quotes because it's hard to quantify joke here - 'exercise in surrealist erotica wherein the author is fully aware of its absurdity' is a bit long-winded). But I thought the AMA was very consistent and constantly emphasised the humanity of the author (cf "laughing with not laughing at" etc), so I have to say it did change my mind. Basically if "I'm his son! he's autistic!" is part of the gag, I find it p. gross is exactly my feeling, and I'd kind of rather be naïve and gullible in this instance.

Feeling really sad and shitty about the world now.
