The misplaced fucking angst on this thread; it's 3 days, he'll be back.

So, aside from "I love drama and will stoke the flames of it regardless of who it hurts" and "my friends should be able to do whatever they want", there seem to be two major points raised here.

1. Inconsistency of moderation

Pretty much the main reason moderation on ilx can be inconsistent is because this happens whenever someone moderates in a way that would be normal on most reasonable boards. Pile-ons and bullying and ridiculing that force people to quit (or leave ilx forever, or self-harm, or try to commit suicide). Repeatedly posting violent shit isn't funny banter, it's traumatising. Posting misogynist images isn't edgy, it's toxic. Those things shouldn't be controversial. For those saying that image had been posted before, that's one of the things FP is for - bringing it to moderator attention. This was flagged up. If you feel there are similar things happening that are let go, flag it up. If you don't think the FP system is enough and that something needs to be done, post in the moderator request forum. Curiously enough, I won't be spending 24 hours a day going through the 20 years of ilx when I wasn't a mod. And try to quit it with the whole "pretending not to understand context" thing.

2. Explanation/emails.

I take this point. If I stay on as a mod I'd be happy to make sure I use the ilx mail function to keep people informed.

I agree with what you did emil.y. I killfile the posters who post their violent fantasies and fp them when I’m on zing. If those posts become normal here then I’ll leave ilx.

I think there's a good argument for making yellow cards private, or at least the contents of them? But it did come out of the general board demand for logging all mod actions back in the day, not sure if other people would push back against making them private.

Well, I think they should be private because I can honestly see no reason why they shouldn't be. In this particular case, all it needs is for some malicious individual(s) who can't stand the poster in question to hammer in a few FPs and they're out.
