The Economist claims that it "is not a chronicle of economics".[10] Rather, it aims "to take part in a severe contest between intelligence, which presses forward, and an unworthy, timid ignorance obstructing our progress".[11]

Putting aside the considerable technical issues involved in removing a living person’s head, grafting it to a dead body, reviving the reconstructed person and retraining their brain to use thousands of unfamiliar spinal cord nerves, the ethics are problematic.

Ringo Starr today told of his disgust over British jihadis being given nicknames based on The Beatles.

The drummer said he was saddened that the fanatics — led by a man dubbed “Jihadi John”, who is suspected of beheading two American journalists — had been labelled with the names of the Fab Four.

Starr, 74, told the Standard: “It’s bullshit. What they are doing out there is against everything The Beatles stood for.

Parkes was most closely associated with bands he described as "unafraid of their own intelligence", including Saint Etienne, Pulp and Manic Street Preachers, and was an occasional champion of the avant-garde, writing favourably about Post-rock.

did you read the whole piece?

Samey Winehouses singing forgettable songs in videos shot in poor areas. The willing and eager, the would-be stars, have no interest in their own experiences, of anything, so they go for the loot and the useless awards and hide behind shiny plastic walls made by fashion houses. DJs are so safe they ought to be holding seminars on fucking traffic awareness when crossing the road.

Well I wouldn't necessarily say they are talking shit but anyhow I find this kind of discussion and topic - whether I agree with it or not - more interesting than say who will be the next host of XFactor or what the latest lounge suite colour might be. Also better to hear some unfriendly fire rather than the kind of talk that comes out as muffled and bland from being safely squeezed between the two fat dripping buns of commerce and mediocrity.

Beatles' "Aryan" music removed any trace of black music from rock and roll. It replaced syncopated African rhythm with linear Western melody, and lusty negro attitudes with cute white-kid smiles.

There are bands out there that are political but its in the interests of the mainstream media to ignore them. My band The Psychedelic Raiders have a number of political songs and have offered our services to the Green party to raise funds.

Sartorially brilliant, he appears to have been birthed by the same clandestine sect we have to thank for the dark-stain presences of Ian McCulloch, Roy Orbison and Harry Lime – although I’m unsure how he’d feel about those comparisons. If, as it happens, you’ve never caught a Meades film, then you’re yet to encounter how startling it can be to receive a dose of television presented by a critically lucid pontificator who simply refuses to remove his Ray-Bans, all the while affecting a kind of stolid, critical pedestrianism that’s perfectly calibrated to defamiliarise and make strange the overlooked and obfuscated elements of our built environments.

Ascending the line of gradation, we come at last to the white European, who, being the most removed from the brute creation, may ...be considered as the most beautiful of the human race....Where shall we find, unless in the European, that nobly arched head, containing such a quantity of brain....Where that erect posture of body and noble gait? In what other quarter of the globe shall we find the blush that overspreads the soft features of the beautiful women of Europe ...? Where that nice expression of the amiable and softer passions in the countenance; and that general elegance of features and complexion? Where, except on the bosom of the European woman two such plump and snowy hemispheres, tipt with vermilion? 14

4.0 out of 5 stars Eine Symphone Des Graunes, 3 Mar. 2001
By A Customer

This review is from: Volume Contrast Brilliance (Audio CD)

The monochrome set are one of those band that are very difficult to categorise and even harder to explain why you like them.
There sound can best be described as indie but song like Alphavilee (strangely not on the greatest hits album) echo the film of John Luke Goddard more than any punk rock anthem. The under produced guitar sound provides and excellent backup drop to the clever if slightly incomprehensible lyrics of Bid.
The grating percussion on He Frank is sill a sound to be equalled while there are some week track on the record (so only 4 stars) it still contains the classic "Lester leaps in" the anthem "fun for all the family" and the extremely witty and relevant "Jet set Junta"

nakhchivan, Thursday, 16 April 2015 21:43 (eleven years ago)

And a lot of their best songs work on several levels - yeah, a lot of their songs are plain fun, but they DO bear up to scrutiny - look beyond the fun and frolics, and there's a musical sophistication there.

The habitation of Shompens is the Great Nicobar which is the largest among the Nicobar Group of Islands. Like the Nicobarese, they belong to the Mongoloid race. The Shompens have two divisions, the smaller division being known as Mawa Shompens. They inhabit areas very close to the coastal region along the river valleys. They are very shy. They are quite intimate with the Nicobarese. The major group of shompens are the hostile Shompens living in Alexendra and Galathia river areas and also on the east coast of the area in the interior of the island. In the past, frequent attacks are believed to have been made on the Mawa Shompens by the hostile Shompens. But now such hostility has stopped. It is probably because they have been largely reduced in number due to various diseases. The Shompens are the victims of disease, and physically very weak. With the establishment of the settlement at Campbell Bay in Great Nicobar, Shompens have been visiting the settlers and they are gradually shaking off their shyness and indifferent attitude towards the civilized people.
