"If You Wanna" is pretty good. The rest of this album is decent, but this is the standout for me.

is it me, or is there a big Morrissey thing going on with the vocals?

I think they're an underrated group. I think Justin's a very sharp songwriter, who knows exactly where he and they are going. Heard from several people connected with the group that he insisted on leaving several songs off the second album that everyone else thought were the best, because he insisted they weren't Vaccines songs. And I'm inclined to credit that to a clear eyed view of his audience than blind stupidity.

Also … he is incredibly nice. He recently went to my friend's house – whom he'd never met – to record some guitar parts for an album, because I emailed and asked him to. I'm not his best mate or anything - have met him three times. That struck me as an act of staggering decency.

it's not gonna win any awards for originality, but it's got a lot of what I look for in music: a combination of fun and melancholia set to jangles and memorable tunes.

It always kind of weirds me out when I think about how completely humans have so completely and radically changed their environment in only a couple of thousand years. These huge cities used to be forests full of wild animals for millions of years before we decided that civilization was the way to go.

this seems exactly to appeal to foreigners who buy into the aggresively parochial / prole art threat wing of uk eighties nineties indie

would usually expect to hate anything described as 'punk fucking rock' but even so, this isn't good

there is an aesthetics of resistance here though exemplified by the person in the trackies with the can of spesh or supermarket vodka lingering in the background, the sort of performative grottiness and debased nihilism that limns its way through most of the other culture heroes namechecked itt, though not as tryhard-commonplace as this lot

shouty bloke reminds me a bit of mid 00s fall copyists prinzhorn dance school who i will sort of rep for

this seems to be getting warm notices due to the bleeding out of the whitebread male provincial fucked off sensibility in current uk pop

I was visiting a friend in Heptonstall, near Hebden Bridge, when the death of John Lennon was announced on TV. I just couldn't believe it and had to go out for a long walk to set my head straight. It's one of only two instances where I'll never forget where I was when I learned about tragic deaths on TV, the other, of course, being 9/11.

Was reading somewhere a critique that basically amounted to "Scorcese doesn't know when to stop." Doesn't he though? That's one of the most impressive things about this movie. Trim each scene by a minute or two and you'd have very different movie. Like, yeah we see what the point is and where things are going but the obsessive compulsive repetition, always going back for one more, strikes me as very pointed and controlled here. It's amazing to behold.
