Odds of an RBL Posse reference occuring in this thread prior to one being made: 1/100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000.

Hard-hit grounder ricocheted off Felipe Lopez. No loafing Nats, Byrnes legged it out with a graceless head-first slide.

Andy K, Monday, 13 August 2007 15:31 (sixteen years ago) link

WTF is Chris Young of the sub-.300 OBP and 22 homers doing batting 1st for this damn team. No wonder they have a negative run differential.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 16 August 2007 23:29 (sixteen years ago) link

yet also somehow the best record in the NL

johnny crunch, Thursday, 16 August 2007 23:42 (sixteen years ago) link

BP has an article devoted to the "somehow" today.

To have the records in close games that the Diamondbacks have, they have to have been lucky. From year to year, the biggest factor in close games is luck, and while we can tease out the influence of bullpens or notably good or bad performance in clutch situations on the margins, there’s no question that the Diamondbacks are a bit lucky to have such a good record, not to mention a three-game lead in the NL West.

How lucky? The Diamondbacks are in line to be have the best record ever by a team that was outscored during the season.

Valverde does lead MLB in saves tho...

Steve Shasta, Friday, 17 August 2007 00:51 (sixteen years ago) link

hahaha, apparently there isn't an 07 Diamondbacks thread. Might as well use this thread for a WTF for Micah Owings -- 4 for 4 with 6 RBI. Oh yeah, and he's the AZ starting pitcher.

Rock Hardy, Sunday, 19 August 2007 01:16 (sixteen years ago) link

He could hit SEVENTH for LolRussa.

Andy K, Sunday, 19 August 2007 02:17 (sixteen years ago) link

dontrelle has hit 7th in recent years.

Steve Shasta, Sunday, 19 August 2007 04:44 (sixteen years ago) link

Every one of those hits Owings got was impressive, the two home runs were both over 400 feet.

I remember former Padre and good hitting pitcher Tim Lollar hitting two home runs in a game and I think Livan Hernandez did this a couple of years ago.

From SI's feature on Byrnsie:

Asked to name something people don't know about Byrnes, Arizona second baseman Orlando Hudson thinks for a minute, then exclaims, "I know! The man don't own no underwear!" This is true. Byrnes rolls commando-style away from the park and plays in only sliding shorts (no cup). "I ran out of underwear in college and never bought any more," he explains. "I don't like to be restricted."

Leee, Thursday, 13 September 2007 17:21 (sixteen years ago) link

and plays in only sliding shorts (no cup).

This is tremendously unwise.

Andy K, Thursday, 13 September 2007 19:20 (sixteen years ago) link

He's an OF... the odds of a cupcheck are slim

Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved, Thursday, 13 September 2007 19:22 (sixteen years ago) link

I realize that, Jimmy, thanks -- errant balls during warm-ups, BP, and such are still a possibility.

Andy K, Thursday, 13 September 2007 19:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Tony Gwynn got nadded once in the batter's box on a foul ball.

Leee, Thursday, 13 September 2007 19:50 (sixteen years ago) link

The words "intrascrotal hematoma" (and Barrett's post-hematoma numbers) should be enough of an argument.
