(xpost) I don't expect him to fall off a cliff; I would guess his aging pattern might be more like maybe Aaron's, where he becomes more of a HR hitter and less of that across-the-board greatest-ever guy. I could see him having more seasons like Aaron's '72-74 (40 HR in 392 AB in '73).

xp yeah think it’s otm, even a small decline in his abilities & age/mileage etc might show up more given conjunction of those two things

I see he just tied DiMaggio on the career HR list at 361. 600 would seem to be a very good bet if healthy...if.

he’s going to be an above average player for a while still, but it’s not looking like he’s going to maintain that mays trajectory. which of course was a tough standard to begin with
― k3vin k., Wednesday, 24 May 2023 17:45 (eleven months ago) link
if he merely ends up next to mantle, rodriguez, and henderson on the leaderboards, that’s not too bad
― k3vin k., Wednesday, 24 May 2023 17:47 (eleven months ago) link
Yeah. Amazingly enough (amaysingly...rimshot), Mays peaked between 31 and 35: bWARS of 10.5, 10.6, 11.0, 11.2, and 9.0. Very atypical; Trout's curve would seem to be more normal--like Mantle's, who slows down around 31.

DiMaggio now in the rear-view mirror.

Genuinely a great guy.
Trout said players deal with mental issues more than people realize, but now some players have become more comfortable talking about it. That includes A’s reliever Trevor May, who was placed on the injured list with anxiety earlier this season and candidly spoke about his struggles with mental health. Trout’s former teammates Andrelton Simmons and Andrew Heaney have also opened up about mental health struggles in the past.“You really don't see it when the guys are out there just playing, especially on a baseball field playing the game we love,” Trout said. “You don't know what's happening at home. You don't know what other guys are going through. It’s just about being able to just reach out and talk to people. I think it makes you feel comfortable. And to be able to get help is a big thing.”

Not much of a bright spot, but that would at least explain the year he's having (as opposed to the start of a sharp decline).
If you type too fast and Google "make trout," here's what you get:

Report: Angels open to trading Mike Trout if he wants out

Like a guy who's wrongly convicted and gets released on DNA evidence 30 years later. (Absurd hyperbole, obviously--he's been well compensated.)

I mean, I don’t know if I’d want to trade for his contract at this point

I’d take him

this is great
Over several years I spent ~40 hours at Angels games watching Mike Trout and nothing else. Here's what I learned: https://t.co/Rx2hwsBnbE— Sam Miller (@SamMillerBB) January 31, 2024

i hate it
if he were already at the 104 bWAR as we re-calculated given better injury luck, that would move him to 175, second all time. It's still short of Ruth (182.6) but really close.

Yeah, it really really really sucks. Maybe back in 6-8 weeks
According to this doctor, a realistic timetable for a "meniscectomy" is 4-6 weeks. https://t.co/B4bLXwoCZy— Jeff Fletcher (@JeffFletcherOCR) May 3, 2024

as much as there is a lot of what-if w/Trout, he's still a pretty formidable player when healthy and as a hitter there's more room for adjustment as he ages even after dealing w/many injuries. there's time for him to add to his stats (he's not old!) It's going to be interesting to watch what happens. i think overall Bryce Harper has probably been more of a what-if but the #winning has helped distract from that.
of course these guys are both (*probably* in Bryce's case) HOFers, unlike other worst-case what-ifs like Mark Prior.

Trout should also move to 1B
