Amazing. I’ve got the Rays / Yankees on the 2nd monitor now

Lowe up with two on!
Of the 10,000 dumb ideas MLB ever had, the synchronized last-day finish--which I assume was inspired by the wild finish that one year--has to rank near the top.

I was wondering if randy was going to try stealing home, because it definitely looked like the bats weren’t going to get him there.

5-3 Nationals, Boston poised for more. I've got a bad feeling.

5-5. Relying on other teams is the worst.

love too get the extra-inning ghost runner in a season-deciding situation

they're not doing that for the playoffs are they?
― Tracer Hand, Sunday, 3 October 2021 22:10 (four years ago)
NYY looks like they're about to buss it down
yankees win, sox are tied... this is the opposite of 2011

well i am disappoint
― mookieproof, Sunday, 3 October 2021 22:16 (four years ago)
only two scenarios now right? BOS-NYY in the wildcard or BOS-TOR in a play-in game tomorrow and NYY cools their heels?
― Tracer Hand, Sunday, 3 October 2021 22:19 (four years ago)
yup, barring a wild m's comeback
― mookieproof, Sunday, 3 October 2021 22:22 (four years ago)
and no, there's no extra-inning runner on second in the playoffs (although i suppose there would be in a game 163)
― mookieproof, Sunday, 3 October 2021 22:23 (four years ago)
0-0 into the 9th. I'm resigned to the worst, but at least Soto will come up.
― clemenza, Sunday, 3 October 2021 22:25 (four years ago)
that’s fucked up though. it’s literally the post-season. it’s literally a playoff.xpost

and the job of closing the game goes to… nick pivetta who starts with three straight balls
― Tracer Hand, Sunday, 3 October 2021 22:47 (four years ago)
About all you can do now is hope for a runner + Soto.
The Jays did great to get back in this, and great to sweep the Orioles. They're young, it's baseball, etc. I will think back to two lost chances: heading into the Twins series, where they should have won 3, and heading into that last Yankees series, where--improbable though it would have been--they still could have controlled the outcome 100% by winning their last 6.
― clemenza, Sunday, 3 October 2021 22:47 (four years ago)
It's the Twins series that hurt.
cannot believe he held onto that this game is cursed

I'm a Cardinals fan now. I don't think I could root for any one of the five AL teams, even though I like a number of individual players.
― clemenza, Sunday, 3 October 2021 22:56 (four years ago)
hmm, well, I would have preferred the opposite outcome of every game but you can’t have everything.
― JoeStork, Sunday, 3 October 2021 22:56 (four years ago)
Dodgers won 106 games including their last 7 in a row and still could not catch SF

― Tracer Hand, Sunday, 3 October 2021 23:52 (four years ago)
white sox all the way... fun team, not their fault they ended up with tony la duissa
― ✖, Sunday, 3 October 2021 23:55 (four years ago)
I just. I really don’t want to hear the breathless praise of him if they win it all. Like that lump on the bench had anything to do with what a great team they have.

Haven't really internalized that the White Sox and the Braves are in the playoffs, somehow I haven't really thought about either of those teams all season.
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 4 October 2021 00:33 (four years ago)
One absolutely bonkers thing I noticed today - this season could very well end with no hitters over 7 fWAR. Going all the way back to 1884 when the NL expanded beyond 112 games, I can only find 2 seasons where that happened, 1900 and 1918. Didn't even happen in the strike seasons. Most seasons it doesn't come remotely close to happening.

no one even made it to 6.9. honestly wild. even if trout/acuna/tatis had all been healthy enough to make it to 7, that still would've been a really light year. in 1999 no one had more than 8, which is rare in itself, but 6 players had 7+.
― ✖, Monday, 4 October 2021 05:08 (four years ago)
correa led position players with 7.2 bWAR. by my quick research the last times no hitter had at least 8 was 1981, 1971, and 1940, and 7.2 is the lowest leader I can see since george sisler led with 6.6 in 1918
― mens rea activist (k3vin k.), Monday, 4 October 2021 09:02 (four years ago)
sorry Blue Jays fans, i was rooting for them to make it in. such a fun team
don't really care about either of the wild card games, four teams that i dislike (to varying degrees)
White Sox all the way, no one really thinks La Russa is doing anything that matters
― na (NA), Monday, 4 October 2021 13:36 (four years ago)
speaking of stats/records like this: the triple
Pour one out for … the triple? For the first time in the history of baseball (not counting last season’s 60-game mess), nobody reached double digits in baseball’s most exciting play. No one got all that close, either; the year ended with David Peralta, Bryan Reynolds and Shohei Ohtani all tied with eight. We came awfully close to the same happening in 2019, when four batters tied for the MLB lead with ten, but it’s been only 14 years since each league had a hitter with 20-plus in Jimmy Rollins and Curtis Granderson.
― typo hell #10: i didn't think any of them really off badly (Karl Malone), Monday, 4 October 2021 18:10 (four years ago)
(i love that a pitcher is tied for MLB league in triples, though)
