that doesn't excuse the DUI though

professional anti- (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 1 September 2021 20:10 (four years ago)

how do the mets keep coming up with this stuff?!

FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 1 September 2021 21:32 (four years ago)

Maybe the Wilpons were just victims of the franchise like everyone else?

The new owner certainly doesn't seem to have changed anything.

Taliban! (PBKR), Wednesday, 1 September 2021 21:37 (four years ago)

stop hiring a GM. has never worked out

“The New York Post was first to report details of Scott’s incident, which occurred early Tuesday morning when police found him sleeping in his car in White Plains, N.Y. ESPN reported that Scott had been at team owner Steve Cohen’s house earlier in the night for a charity fundraising event.”

Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 1 September 2021 23:22 (four years ago)

Even in the midst of a extended winning streak, gave up a 9-0 lead today in a 7 inning game, only to barely squeak by in extras. Geesh.

Michael F Gill, Saturday, 4 September 2021 21:23 (four years ago)

I’m amazed they won after that.

FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Saturday, 4 September 2021 21:45 (four years ago)

you gotta believe

mookieproof, Saturday, 4 September 2021 21:46 (four years ago)

Mets suck

calstars, Saturday, 4 September 2021 21:48 (four years ago)

When I see kids wearing Mets caps I can only say I’m so sorry…your parents must be major douches…

B43 (calstars), Saturday, 4 September 2021 23:53 (four years ago)

Gary Cohen surprising me with multiple Gilmore Girls references in the past two weeks.

Jonathan Villar is batting .519 in the last 7 games.

Michael F Gill, Sunday, 5 September 2021 18:31 (four years ago)

welp, who is going to watch the battle of the old men tonight? over 81 years of experience and leadership!

"HYYOOOOOOONK!" is the sound I make (Karl Malone), Monday, 13 September 2021 19:13 (four years ago)

Double no hitter incoming surely

Michael F Gill, Monday, 13 September 2021 21:05 (four years ago)

i'm very excited to listen to the mets broadcast crew today for a couple reasons. first, they're great, and i'm keith hernandez. but more importantly, i figure they will either not talk much at all about the thumbs down stuff, or talk about it briefly or in passing or something. the cardinals announcing team, whoever it is, will talk about it at length and find a way to spend an inning or two on it during each game of the series. somehow, they will have terrible opinions about it, and if jim edmonds is on, he'll have a just bonkers opinions of some sort and will then dan mclaughlin will start to apologize to him for disagreeing but stress that the facts are facts. at this, edmonds will double down and assert his opinion as the truth.

meanwhile over in the mets broadcast they appear to be enjoying a baseball game

"HYYOOOOOOONK!" is the sound I make (Karl Malone), Monday, 13 September 2021 22:54 (four years ago)

, and i'm keith hernandez. but more importantly,

and just like that, hernandez just made a reference to wainwright and hill having 81 years of experience combined. make sense to me!

Michael F Gill, Monday, 13 September 2021 23:12 (four years ago)

wow. that third pitch was called a ball.

"HYYOOOOOOONK!" is the sound I make (Karl Malone), Monday, 13 September 2021 23:42 (four years ago)

that may place in those end-of-year "worst called strike / worst called ball" articles

"HYYOOOOOOONK!" is the sound I make (Karl Malone), Monday, 13 September 2021 23:42 (four years ago)

for those not catching this game, so far the home plate ump called a pitch thrown near the middle of the zone a ball, the third base umpire called a ball that was at least 6-7 feet fair a foul ball, and the first base umpire's right cheek was smashed by an errant through by SS edmundo sosa. the umpire's attention was completely focused on first base, so he didn't see it coming at all.

i am worried about the final umpire at 2B.

Welcome back, Thor.

FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 28 September 2021 20:11 (four years ago)

right on time

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 28 September 2021 21:27 (four years ago)

i'm not against 'moving on from' (hate this euphemism) luis rojas but why in the fuck is sandy alderson still in charge of anything? the mets have gone 817-863 (.486) and made the playoffs twice in 11 seasons since his involvement with them began, and he's seemingly incapable of hiring people who aren't sexual predators

i don't like tlr either but he's at least won some other shit since the 1989 world series

mookieproof, Tuesday, 5 October 2021 01:31 (four years ago)

anyway, mets free agents:

syndergaard
conforto
familia
stroman
baez
villar
loup
hand
hill

on the bright side, the return of robinson cano for $24m!!!

mookieproof, Tuesday, 5 October 2021 01:35 (four years ago)

I think maybe half of those guys come back? Thor might do the qualifying offer.

Team really does need a manager and management that they can believe in. Cohen can only do so much.

Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 5 October 2021 04:03 (four years ago)

Cohen can only do so much.

I feel like he could stand to do a bit less. All he needs to do is shut up, hire Epstein, and open his wallet.

Hannibal Lecture (PBKR), Tuesday, 5 October 2021 11:18 (four years ago)

I meant Cohen can only do so much to inspire confidence, but I also agree he should not be on Twitter and yes, Epstein would be ideal.

Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 5 October 2021 14:18 (four years ago)

Heard that brainiac Cohen decided not to hire Epstein. I presume Sandy is the sticking point.

I'm going on the record that this guy is going to be the Daniel Snyder of the MLB.

Hannibal Lecture (PBKR), Wednesday, 6 October 2021 23:13 (four years ago)

i thought it was more that epstein wasn’t interested? either way, not great

mookieproof, Wednesday, 6 October 2021 23:22 (four years ago)

I have very low expectations about this search, and am expecting it to go poorly.

Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 6 October 2021 23:45 (four years ago)

amazin

A report that the #Mets have put former #Pirates 1b Dorian Boyland on growing short list led to a pleasant conversation with Boyland who told me no contact with the NYM, no interest in the job. He said he is happy to run his car dealerships.

mookieproof, Tuesday, 19 October 2021 04:11 (four years ago)

You have to hand it to the Mets. They found a worse owner than the Wilpons.

Hannibal Lecture (PBKR), Tuesday, 19 October 2021 11:50 (four years ago)

You could just make these up now and it would be 100% believable. Like, how long before they do a ted lasso and try hiring an Australian cricket coach?!

FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 19 October 2021 12:13 (four years ago)

The Boyland rumor may have actually been made up, but as long as someone can get a lolmets out of it, it’s worth it.

Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 19 October 2021 14:17 (four years ago)

The Mets have already been turned down by a handful of targets in their search for a new baseball operations head. Each of Theo Epstein, Billy Beane, David Stearns, Matt Arnold, Scott Harris and Brandon Gomes had been raised as potential candidates only to later be ruled out of consideration.

Cardinals general manager Michael Girsch can be added to that list, as Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports (Twitter link) that New York reached out to the Cards for permission to speak with him last week. Girsch, however, declined to pursue the opportunity, electing to remain in St. Louis instead.

girsch is pretty much a no name in st louis, for what it's worth. so good move to be turned down by him?

is this press (mlb trade rumors) right that the dynamic is these various candidates turning them down? if so, yikes

I’m not happy this morning . I’ve never seen such unprofessional behavior exhibited by a player’s agent.I guess words and promises don’t matter.

What a fucking baby.

This guy makes Jeff Wilpon look smart.

hocus pocus, alakazam (PBKR), Wednesday, 24 November 2021 15:18 (four years ago)

apparently this is about matz? horrifying that a guy the mets traded away might use them as leverage in free agent negotiations

put that coffee down, steve

mookieproof, Wednesday, 24 November 2021 15:38 (four years ago)

He's raging about all these external things and:

1. Sandy Alderson is still involved even though he hired three scumbags for managers/gms.
2. They still don't have a manager.
3. Farm system is still a disaster.

hocus pocus, alakazam (PBKR), Wednesday, 24 November 2021 15:49 (four years ago)

He should probably be thankful Matz didn't give him a chance to outbid the Cards, that deal would've been even more lolmets embarrassing

, Wednesday, 24 November 2021 16:52 (four years ago)

perhaps, even apart from being sandwiched between aldersons, the mets’ gm opening was so bad and hated because the billionaire owner is micromanaging back-end-of-rotation negotiations

mookieproof, Wednesday, 24 November 2021 17:24 (four years ago)

one month passes...

Low threshold these days for what counts as news:

https://www.mlb.com/news/keith-hernandez-mets-jersey-retirement

With the new rule-of-Baines in place, I think it's almost a certainty that he'll eventually get into the HOF via one of the committees: 60.3 bWAR, his years as an announcer, famous Seinfeld episode (crucial to any serious HOF resume). I imagine his cocaine dalliance is long forgotten.

I never knew Dusty Baker was part of that whole episode.
