Never heard Mets fans described as lax though

Michael F Gill, Monday, 30 August 2021 00:34 (four years ago)

lol gtfo

this team has the third-highest payroll in the majors and they've shit the fucking bed. pillar is a replacement-level asshole and baez will be gone in five weeks because he has a career .302 OBP

lindor needs to wake the fuck up though. this entire city was dying to love him and then he hit .224/.317/.370. i'm sure it sucks being booed, but play better

mookieproof, Monday, 30 August 2021 00:47 (four years ago)

i mean the team is 7-19 in august -- same as the pirates, after trading away almost anything that responded to light

mookieproof, Monday, 30 August 2021 00:51 (four years ago)

No argument here

I hate to be the “in my day” guy but in my day, a Met responded to boos by THROWING A GRENADE at fans. https://t.co/vjlCb5f3PC

i kind of like this trend

Francisco Lindor, Javier Báez and Kevin Pillar were among those Mets players to flash thumbs-down signs after their hits today.

"When we don't get success, we're going to get booed," Báez explained afterward. "So they [the fans] are going to get booed when we get success." pic.twitter.com/TGX55fQM2O

it's true, fans suck

professional anti- (Karl Malone), Monday, 30 August 2021 03:52 (four years ago)

every time i go to a baseball game there's the low-key existential dilemma over the fans and how they suck

professional anti- (Karl Malone), Monday, 30 August 2021 03:52 (four years ago)

when the pitcher throws over to check on first base, fans are like BOOOOOOOOOO!!! whatyaa doin!? you can't check on the runner! come on, hit for a cycle, the cycle is the best!!

professional anti- (Karl Malone), Monday, 30 August 2021 03:53 (four years ago)

*annoying guy voice*
"wouldn't you rather a player hit 4 home runs then the cycle? 4 home runs would be much be-"
"BOOOOOOOO!!!! whaatya doing, us fans want the cycle!"

professional anti- (Karl Malone), Monday, 30 August 2021 03:54 (four years ago)

New York media is pressing people to care about this much more than is biologically possible for the average homo sapien

, Monday, 30 August 2021 19:51 (four years ago)

Has the “thumbs down guy” weighed in yet

Michael F Gill, Monday, 30 August 2021 20:43 (four years ago)

lol

It took three weeks for the Mets thumbs down to be noticed bc they only did it when they did something good and they never did anything good and I’m dying https://t.co/mDmJ5I2M8Q

it's not on the same level of knocking the mets out of the playoffs on the final day of the season two years in a row, but i'm eyeing a marlins doubleheader sweep at citifield at the height of thumbgate as the next chapter in the history of the marlins torturing the mets

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 31 August 2021 18:35 (four years ago)

this thumbgate thing is hilarious

i am a fan-hater. i hate when fans boo. fans fucking suck, so it's hilarious to watch players try to fight back against it. because they are screeeeeeeeeeewed lol, zero % chance of success with this tactic

professional anti- (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 31 August 2021 18:36 (four years ago)

in New York, no less. Lovin it.

brimstead, Tuesday, 31 August 2021 19:40 (four years ago)

you know if lindor wants to take a slight paycut to play in front of the BFIB for a few years, he might find that upside-down thumb turned upside-down again

professional anti- (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 31 August 2021 19:53 (four years ago)

by which i mean that after turning his thumb up upside-down, the "new" upside will be turned down again, back to the original position of thumbs up, with the up and down in their proper positions

professional anti- (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 31 August 2021 19:54 (four years ago)

i'm trying to say that lindor would be giving thumbs up to the BFIB

A search party remains on the field in Flushing apparently looking for a piece of jewelry that Javier Báez lost during his slide across home plate. Sandy Alderson is among those searching, alongside members of the grounds crew and security staffs.

Looked like it was on its way to happening, but they got 5 runs in the 9th inning to walk it off, with Baez scoring the winning run. Gary Cohen's voice cracked/jumped an octave during the final call. Apparently their first four-run ninth inning comeback in 10 years. Ya gotta believe?

Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 31 August 2021 22:02 (four years ago)

After playing only Giants/Dodgers for 13 games (they went 2-11), they are now in the midst of playing only Marlins/Nats for 15 games in a row. Weird.

Oops.

sometimes the metsing is just relentless

We were surprised and deeply disappointed to learn this morning about an alleged DUI involving Zack Scott. We take this matter very seriously. Zack will not be traveling with the team for our upcoming road trip while we learn more and determine next steps.

Maybe the Wilpons were just victims of the franchise like everyone else?

The new owner certainly doesn't seem to have changed anything.

“The New York Post was first to report details of Scott’s incident, which occurred early Tuesday morning when police found him sleeping in his car in White Plains, N.Y. ESPN reported that Scott had been at team owner Steve Cohen’s house earlier in the night for a charity fundraising event.”

Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 1 September 2021 23:22 (four years ago)

Even in the midst of a extended winning streak, gave up a 9-0 lead today in a 7 inning game, only to barely squeak by in extras. Geesh.

Michael F Gill, Saturday, 4 September 2021 21:23 (four years ago)

I’m amazed they won after that.

Double no hitter incoming surely

Michael F Gill, Monday, 13 September 2021 21:05 (four years ago)

i'm very excited to listen to the mets broadcast crew today for a couple reasons. first, they're great, and i'm keith hernandez. but more importantly, i figure they will either not talk much at all about the thumbs down stuff, or talk about it briefly or in passing or something. the cardinals announcing team, whoever it is, will talk about it at length and find a way to spend an inning or two on it during each game of the series. somehow, they will have terrible opinions about it, and if jim edmonds is on, he'll have a just bonkers opinions of some sort and will then dan mclaughlin will start to apologize to him for disagreeing but stress that the facts are facts. at this, edmonds will double down and assert his opinion as the truth.

meanwhile over in the mets broadcast they appear to be enjoying a baseball game

, and i'm keith hernandez. but more importantly,

and just like that, hernandez just made a reference to wainwright and hill having 81 years of experience combined. make sense to me!

that may place in those end-of-year "worst called strike / worst called ball" articles

"HYYOOOOOOONK!" is the sound I make (Karl Malone), Monday, 13 September 2021 23:42 (four years ago)

for those not catching this game, so far the home plate ump called a pitch thrown near the middle of the zone a ball, the third base umpire called a ball that was at least 6-7 feet fair a foul ball, and the first base umpire's right cheek was smashed by an errant through by SS edmundo sosa. the umpire's attention was completely focused on first base, so he didn't see it coming at all.

i am worried about the final umpire at 2B.
