On the other hand, maybe it could lead to a new era stat - who keeps that runner from scoring? I know LOB% is already a thing, but maybe this would be just for extra inning situations?

Eh, I don’t know. Maybe that sample size is too small for most relievers to be meaningful

Z_TBD (Karl Malone), Sunday, 4 July 2021 14:35 (four years ago)

the marlins have MLB's 11th-best run differential and 24th-best record

7-19 in one-run games

Cubs are the third team to have a lengthy post no-hitter losing streak. I don’t know if it means anything. For O’s/Dbacks it was mainly a road losing streak.

Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 6 July 2021 17:40 (four years ago)

cubs "no-hitter"

i think the trend is that none of those teams are very good

na (NA), Tuesday, 6 July 2021 17:49 (four years ago)

Right, two of those no hitters do deserve quotation marks.

Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 6 July 2021 19:12 (four years ago)

fuckin baseball players

When he’s playing catch between starts, Lance Lynn is always wearing a hoodie with long sleeves underneath, which was still the case on Monday as temperatures went into the high-90s. He explained that if you always feel miserable, it offers a sort of consistency

starting pitchers. They are weird

Z_TBD (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 7 July 2021 19:46 (four years ago)

Did not expect to enjoy Josh Hader’s first blown save as much as I did today.

Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 21:04 (four years ago)

personally was not a fan

frogbs, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 21:08 (four years ago)

An actual area of common ground between MLB owners and players? We found sources on both sides who want 7-inning doubleheader games — currently just a covid protocol — to become permanent.https://t.co/ihuHZEqDum

games wrap up in two hours
everybody wins

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 8 July 2021 19:20 (four years ago)

7 innings isn't a baseball game

, Thursday, 8 July 2021 20:17 (four years ago)

unfortunately

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 8 July 2021 20:25 (four years ago)

Daniel Camarena was playing in the minors since 2012.

In his second career MLB game, he somehow gets an at bat with the bases loaded, and becomes the first relief pitcher to hit a grand slam since 1985.

And he did it off Max Scherzer! His team came back from 8-0 to tie it. https://t.co/orHfNCm0Fc

Michael F Gill, Friday, 9 July 2021 04:27 (four years ago)

that’s fantastic

not an easy pitch to hit either!

Tracer Hand, Friday, 9 July 2021 07:16 (four years ago)

yeah seriously, he went down to get that one!

Z_TBD (Karl Malone), Friday, 9 July 2021 15:36 (four years ago)

max scherzer, upon this home run, walked toward the home plate umpire and removed his pants

Z_TBD (Karl Malone), Friday, 9 July 2021 15:36 (four years ago)

can't imagine there will be a better moment this season

c'mon max, everyone knows the lefties love it down and in, so to speak

All Star Game to be in 4K: https://www.tvtechnology.com/news/all-star-game-first-fox-sports-to-deliver-2021-game-in-4k-hdr

Bee OK, Tuesday, 13 July 2021 19:47 (four years ago)

However, not one of the 50-plus cameras Fox Sports will use for the game will be native 4K. Rather, the broadcaster will use 1080p HDR cameras and upconvert to 4K for its distribution partners that are delivering the game to viewers in 4K.

bahahahaha

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 13 July 2021 20:25 (four years ago)

"upconvert"

Z_TBD (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 13 July 2021 21:17 (four years ago)

yes, i used to use that technique all the time with my gifs. i would make them in 400x400 pixels, then upconvert them to 4k

Z_TBD (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 13 July 2021 21:18 (four years ago)

TVT: Pardon the pun, but this question might seem like it’s from out of left field. Most if not all of today’s 4K TV sets have powerful upconverters built in. Why not simply produce and distribute a 1080p show and let the audience’s 4K TVs do the heavy lifting to convert the 1080p feed while also distributing a down-converted 720p show for the mass audience?

BC: That’s a great question. For us, our goal is to provide 4K. That’s what the distribution networks are looking for as they continue to provide this kind of programming.

So, our goal is that when we switch over to full 4K production that it is transparent to the home viewer.

that IS a great question!

Z_TBD (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 13 July 2021 21:19 (four years ago)

i mean, this is fucking great:

BC checks notes

um...we provide 4K. we are transparent. thank you!

Z_TBD (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 13 July 2021 21:20 (four years ago)

a better empty suit would have said "we want to provide the 4K experience to every viewer, including those that still haven't upgraded to the latest 4K models with upconversion built in. In addition, we're at the forefront of upconverter technology and aim to continue to provide the best yadda yadda i make $740K a year at this shit somehow, come on!"

Z_TBD (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 13 July 2021 21:22 (four years ago)

instead he was just like "...the won the contract with mlb because we said we'd offer 4K. and that's what we're doing, technically. contractually. with success. 100% KPI."

Z_TBD (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 13 July 2021 21:23 (four years ago)
