now that morbs is away i can say that this team imploding is probably the best thing that can happen to it because minaya has completely fucked it up. yes, injuries are horrible but not having a credible plan b at so many positions and a weak farm system is his fault. problem is, they won't fire the guy until at least another year unless he commits a crime or something.

velko, Saturday, 18 July 2009 01:24 (sixteen years ago)

Sheff's done for a while.

Bernazard, already notorious for his alleged influence in the firing of Willie Randolph and Rick Peterson a year ago, apparently was so incensed on a trip to observe the Mets' Double-A Binghamton team that he ripped off his shirt in the clubhouse after a game and challenged the players to a fight.

Mets New York Mets All-Star closer Frankie Rodriguez confirmed this afternoon that he exchanged words on the team bus last week in Atlanta with Bernazard, the club's embattled vice president of player development.

"Yeah [it happened], but I'm not going to talk about that," Rodriguez told The Post before tonight's game here with the Nationals. "Not going to get into it."

Another player, who asked to remain anonymous, told The Post today: "That guy [Bernazard] is crazy. No one likes him."

anyone up for bets on omar's firing date?
http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/omar-has-lost-it

sanskrit, Friday, 24 July 2009 15:34 (sixteen years ago)

not an omar fan in the slightest but i'm not totally sure what he was supposed to do--mets have a win now team so he's trying to win now. comparing them to the pirates is silly.

call all destroyer, Friday, 24 July 2009 15:38 (sixteen years ago)

the contracts to castillo and perez revealed his win never strategy

velko, Friday, 24 July 2009 15:44 (sixteen years ago)

lol yeah and you should never, ever trade for frenchy but looking at the injuries they have endured saying "oh why is there no depth in this org" and blaming the gm is a bit of a dumbshit position.

call all destroyer, Friday, 24 July 2009 15:46 (sixteen years ago)

the frenchy trade is pretty A+ imo - would any mets fan even have cared if they had just str8 up released church? - pretty low risk - i mean i guess the downside is that you're forced to actually play francouer but he's certainly no worse than frankie martinez

highway to sarahel (J0rdan S.), Friday, 24 July 2009 17:22 (sixteen years ago)

mostly the francoeur trade irritates me because i know for a fact i am exactly as good a baseball player as francoeur, so why didnt they just put me in the lineup

max, Friday, 24 July 2009 17:24 (sixteen years ago)

because you're gay

highway to sarahel (J0rdan S.), Friday, 24 July 2009 17:26 (sixteen years ago)

dude they started mike piazza for years

max, Friday, 24 July 2009 17:27 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, losing church is whatevs but making a move in the midst of a complete team meltdown that consists of taking the #1 stiff off the hands of division rival is the kind of tonedeaf bs minaya has been pulling the last couple of years. i avoided the fire minaya cry up until recently, and i still don't think they should fire manuel tho he is kinda clueless, but when things go this badly after 2 epic chokes, something's gotta give. it's pretty clear to me at this point that minaya has absolutely no idea about how to run a baseball team. on the plus side, we won't have to endure a sept. choke, so maybe omar did us a favor

velko, Friday, 24 July 2009 17:33 (sixteen years ago)

yeah the francoeur trade was absolutely terrible without question, since the dude will not help in any way and in fact this helps ATL. if minaya was smart he could have traded church for a more useful utility player maybe.

Howard Johnson has experienced the high of winning a World Series with the '86 Mets. As for lows, the Mets' current plight tops the hitting coach's list.

As the Mets try to regroup Friday night against the Astros after an off-day, HoJo has watched his hitters get shut out five times this month and nine times this season. In July, the Mets have scored an MLB-low 49 runs and also rank last in homers with four. The longball total through Wednesday was a full seven behind the teams ranked second-to-last: Kansas City, San Diego and Washington.

Nationals rookie Craig Stammen - yes, Craig Stammen - limited the Mets to one run and four hits in 7 1/3 innings in their 3-1 rubber-game loss Wednesday in Washington. One Met called Stammen among the least-impressive pitchers he had seen this season.

"I'm trying to stay positive every day," Johnson said. "Guys come and get their work in. We try to prepare them as best we can. I know the guys are out there giving their best effort. We're just not good enough."

velko, Friday, 24 July 2009 20:28 (sixteen years ago)

wow

call all destroyer, Friday, 24 July 2009 20:28 (sixteen years ago)

lol hojo why don't you give them corked bats & coke, worked pretty good for the mets in the 80s

velko, Friday, 24 July 2009 20:32 (sixteen years ago)

In July, the Mets have scored an MLB-low 49 runs and also rank last in homers with four.

Wow. The Blue Jays hit four homers in four innings the other night.

atl got half a good player in exhcahnge for francoeur which is one half more than they had w/him on the team OWNED basically it is like when montgomery burns is like RELEASE THE HOUNFS and the braves are the houndz or perhaps mythical beasts of yore like a basilisk or maybe like, the (space) battleship yamato http://dailypop.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/yamato.jpg
