It is a good deal for the player, lots of players take those kind of deals as it sets up their family financially, even often with on the field results stating they could have made more on an open market.

Signing any reliever to a five year deal is almost automatically asking to pay for 2 years of Tommy John surgery recovery. Bound to happen.
