i don't think he ever did? he got 113 plate appearances last year over four separate big league stints, which is a tough situation for most anyone

fair point on the 4 stints, but when they got him i looked at the stats and just thought "someone the Astros couldn't fix". i guess they didn't try hard enough.

i think it's less that they didn't try than that they're so loaded there was no room for him

they also gave up on a.j. reed, but i don't think he's gonna make a comeback. not really a good sign when you're a two-time minor league homer champ

In hindsight, looks like Mets lucked out in signing Ramos instead of Grandal.

Way higher batting average, same amount of RBIs for a cheaper price? Grandal does have more power though.

And better OBP, and much much better defense. He is twice the price for three times the value.

Marginally better OBP? My memory of his defense is definitely clouded by his postseason performance last year though.

What I'm saying is that a higher average is null if the other player both has a higher OBP and slugging.

Grandal has been excellent this season at defensive catching (he always is).
