i think this goes for k-rod, paps, etc - i think closers have the license to be overly celebratory because they have won the game in a tight situation. it's different with a starter like joba celebrating in like the second inning

the mets are messed up right now - sheffield has like saved the team it sounds like

i think he knows who he is.

sanskrit, Sunday, 14 June 2009 18:53 (seventeen years ago)

as much as i love to see the mets lose, it kinda sucks that today's game didn't provide for a k-rod appearance

Ump obv just wants to go home

my god, it's full of straws! (k3vin k.), Sunday, 14 June 2009 19:24 (seventeen years ago)

i'm going to miss keith hernandez and co.'s passive aggressiveness in the booth for this one way rivalry:

oh, the ump's brother is a pitcher. so he's a pitcher's ump.
mark teixeira is a machine on the field. and a robot with the media.

sanskrit, Sunday, 14 June 2009 19:54 (seventeen years ago)

i don't think that last line was intended as a dis!

He's on track for a career-high 50 doubles, and I expect the HRs to go up even with $iti.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 17 June 2009 14:41 (seventeen years ago)

wouldnt "¢iti" make more sense

man, they're gonna start this game and get 3-4 innings in...

Dr Morbius, Saturday, 20 June 2009 20:07 (sixteen years ago)

Ken Belson, NYT:

Perhaps it’s the opposition, perhaps it’s the economy, perhaps it’s the Mets mediocre record. Whatever the reason, the Mets are discounting tickets to their upcoming home games.

Select tickets for the three games against the Tampa Bay Rays are going for half off, while tickets for the four-game set against the St. Louis Cardinals, who will play at Citi Field starting Monday, are being discounted by one-third.

Baseline box seats that cost $90 this weekend can be had for $45. Metropolitan box seats that have a $180 price tag can be bought for $90. Tickets are cheaper for the games against the Cardinals because they are “bronze” games instead of the “gold” games being played this weekend.

J0rdan S. who is your team?

mookieproof, Tuesday, 23 June 2009 02:21 (sixteen years ago)

Was at the game with my cousin the Cardinal fan. yay Pujols DP ending the 8th.

hey morbs

ive heard two diff visiting announcing teams talk about how the atmosphere at citi is drastically worse than at old shea and i was wondering if it's true or not? are the "real" fans being priced out or is the thing just too cavernous or what?

whiney g. gordon liddy (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 23 June 2009 04:35 (sixteen years ago)

meh, I dunno. My last 2 visits were in the first row of the upper deck near home, and the main problem was people going up and down the stairs near my sightline during the game. Plus the Wave. Same shit everywhere, right?

I don't know how it's "cavernous." The seats are closer to the field and there's more room on the concourses.

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 23 June 2009 04:43 (sixteen years ago)

oh yeah, Beltran to the DL. fuck fuck fuck

Fernando Martinez back up, Takahashi and Wilson Valdez down; for the bullpen, Elmer Dessens (OMG) and Pat Misch up.

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 23 June 2009 05:30 (sixteen years ago)

Elmer Dessens (OMG)

velko, Tuesday, 23 June 2009 07:14 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, I think The Troll wasn't expecting half the fucking team to be on the DL tbh. It's a miracle they're where they are.

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 23 June 2009 13:23 (sixteen years ago)

oops, that wasn't SS, just a Yankee fan!

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 23 June 2009 13:24 (sixteen years ago)

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 23 June 2009 15:12 (sixteen years ago)

lol

anybody watching the SNY broadcast of this game? they show an aerial view of the defense and one of the announcers says "playing him pretty much straight away, no?" when clearly everyone on the field has shifted drastically for a pull

it actually is kind of amazin' what the mets are getting out of people like livan and various other pieces of crap

it's also amazin' that they have to resort to them, tho

callalldestroyer (who is a very pleasant fella) and I saw catcher's interference and a 6-5 force in consecutive innings. Also 4 Cardinal pitchers in the 8th inning (Mets didn't score).

glad that "Meet the Mets" is the new 8th-inning singalong, but just since Monday they dropped the bridge:

Oh, the butcher and the baker and the people on the streets,
Where did they go? To MEET THE METS!
Oh, they're hollerin' and cheerin' and they're jumpin' in their seats,
Where did they go? To MEET THE METS!
All the fans are true to the orange and blue,
So hurry up and come on down -
'cause we've got ourselves a ball club,
The Mets of New York town!

Dr Morbius, Friday, 26 June 2009 14:46 (sixteen years ago)

well, i guess that could have been worse

glad that "Meet the Mets" is the new 8th-inning singalong, but just since Monday they dropped the bridge:

morbs (great meeting you btw!) i meant to ask you if this was a long-standing tradition or something but from what i gather here it's new.

during the part that goes "the mets are really sockin' the ball/hitting those home runs over the wall" the 16 yo dude next me deadpanned a perfectly timed "NO" and i cracked up.
