If the Barves' bullpen can get their shit right, I see them winning the East again. Big if though.

Is this the fourth week in a row the Cubs have been on the Sunday night game or am i misremembering?

this is an interesting development

RHP Carter Stewart, who attended Eastern Florida State College after failing to sign with the #Braves as the No. 8 overall pick in last year’s draft, is in agreement on a contract with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks of the Japanese Pacific League, sources tell The Athletic.

Todd Frazier is still upset with Adam Eaton about the Adam LaRoche('s son in the 2016 White Sox clubhouse) thing?!

Look. Let's be clear. At the end of the day, it is what it is.

afaict the MLB record for a full season is 258 by the 2016 Reds, so they’re on pace to just ever so slightly beat that

omar little, Wednesday, 22 May 2019 00:49 (seven years ago)

They can do it, piece o' cake. I'm rooting for them.

mookieproof, Wednesday, 22 May 2019 03:04 (seven years ago)

that nationals pen looked like a garbage fire the other night against the cubs.

fun with stats

OK! Here's a new thing at Baseball Savant.

We get lots of ? about pitch movement, so now there are leaderboards. Here, for example, are 4-seams, most rise added: https://t.co/4hrqH28sym

it's crazy how both this and the cobb signing were deeply shitty in the exact same way.... minus the giant contract in straily's case

J0rdan S., Thursday, 23 May 2019 16:46 (seven years ago)

tbf alex cobb was pretty good before the TJ surgery. dan straily . . . had a nice season in the minors in 2012

mookieproof, Thursday, 23 May 2019 17:07 (seven years ago)

if you can bunt for a single AND cause the opposing pitcher to stroke out then yeah, its almost better than a home run

xp: that 1B with the sliding throw was totally unnecessary, dude had already scored.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 24 May 2019 19:44 (seven years ago)

Subjective observation that may or may not be true: I don't ever remember so many teams, day in and day out, scoring 10+ runs a game. It feels like three or four teams do it every day. Are runs historically high this year, or am I just fixating on a few games?

clemenza, Saturday, 25 May 2019 22:23 (seven years ago)

Up a fifth of a run from last year, identical to 2017, half a run lower than PED peak. So no. Maybe it's a distribution thing.

clemenza, Saturday, 25 May 2019 22:27 (seven years ago)

i am willing to believe that because, especially in the AL, we have some really good teams and some disastrously awful ones, that there are more blowouts than usual. but i have no data for it

mookieproof, Saturday, 25 May 2019 22:59 (seven years ago)

Here are run totals of 10+ the last couple of weeks, both leagues:

May 11: 13, 11, 12, 17
May 12: 11, 15, 10, 10
May 13: none
May 14: 11, 14, 11
May 15: 11
May 16: 11, 17, 16, 14, 10, 11
May 17: 14, 12, 10
May 18: 18
May 19: 13, 10
May 20: 12, 10, 10
May 21: 11, 10
May 22: 11, 10 (and four teams score 9)
May 23: 14, 16
May 24: 12, 10, 10, 11, 18
May 25: 19 (so far--thanks, Jays)

That can't possibly be normal.

clemenza, Saturday, 25 May 2019 23:46 (seven years ago)

there probably aren't that many pitchers who have given up a grand slam in their first big league inning, so congrats to mitch keller for joining an elite group

HOT TAKE: Bellinger isn't even the best player in the NL with a last name starting with those 4 letters.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Wednesday, 29 May 2019 23:53 (seven years ago)

bell is a great hitter this year, but he gives away half of his value in the field and he can't run

Ah yes, Christian Bellich

km not doin typos anymore (Will M.), Thursday, 30 May 2019 19:57 (seven years ago)
