Stephen Strasburg just struck out the 1,500th batter of his career. He is the fastest pitcher in MLB history to do so by innings (1,272 1/3).

After the latest UZR update, Cody Bellinger's March/April WAR is, for now, the highest on record in a calendar "month" at FanGraphs, back to 2002:

Bellinger, Apr '19: 3.24
Berkman, May '08: 3.12
Winn, Sept '05: 3.02
Bonds, Aug '02: 3.00
Bonds, Apr '04: 2.83
Trout, July '12: 2.83

Hell of a cherry pick, kudos:

Dodgers March/April 2019 # of games: 32
Astros May 2008 # of games: 28
Giants August 2002 # of games: 26
Giants April 2004 # of games: 24
Giants September/October* 2005 # of games: 30
Angels July 2012 # of games: 26

*2 games in Oct: wow cool, another arbitrary "month" not disclosed in cherry-picked stat category

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 3 May 2019 16:23 (seven years ago)

Doing some maths 4U:

WAR/# available games to play per "month"

Bellinger '19: 3.24/32 = .10125
Berkman '08: 3.12/28 = .11143
Winn '05: 3.02/30 = .10067
Bonds '02: 3.00/26 = .11538
Bonds '04: 2.83/24 = .11792
Trout '12: 2.83/26 = .10885

Bellinger probably falls out of the top 10/20?

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 3 May 2019 16:29 (seven years ago)

I'm old enough to remember when you would roll your eyes at arbitrary time-bucketed stats! (and not including ones that were padded/fluffed up!)

Gausman tossed in the 2nd for throwing behind Urias (opp. SP for FLA), despite Urias' pleas to the ump to leave him in.

Curious about his innings limit, feel like he's a dark horse Cy Young candidate.

tommy la stella is tied for the angels team lead with eight home runs in 32 games

he came into the season having hit 10 in 396 career games

yu darvish is so frustrating

na (NA), Thursday, 9 May 2019 19:25 (seven years ago)

lastella was a (very good) pinch-hitting specialist in the past, maybe something about being in that role made it harder to hit home runs?

la stella's launch angle is up a bit, but the biggest difference (apart from the homers) is that his strikeout rate is way down -- only 6 K in 101 PA coming into today. kinda weird. so yeah, maybe just getting regular playing time has set him free

mookieproof, Thursday, 9 May 2019 20:35 (seven years ago)

edwin encarnacion is playing second base in a one run game right now.

Amazingly, he's still only 34--he started at 19, so that's like moving every year.

I thought you had to be left-handed to be mediocre and last forever.

how is he so good right now? going into last season i thought he was supposed to be middle of the rotation arm, but over his last 23 starts he's looked more like Greg Maddux.
