Ron Darling is taking a medical leave of absence from his broadcasting duties due to a large mass found in his chest, which will require surgery to remove. Provided there are no complications, he should be back announcing Mets games sometime next month.

The Mets recalled RHP Drew Gagnon from Triple-A Syracuse and optioned INF Luis Guillorme.

If the Mets are not going to use Díaz here — when he’s clearly better than the other option, when he hasn’t pitched in three days, when the bases are loaded in a one-run game, when the heart of the opposing order is up, when it’s a division rival, when the pitcher’s spot in the order is a full nine batters away, when it’s literally the highest-leverage plate appearance of the Mets’ season to this point — then it’s fair to wonder when they will.

“He’s not going to get four outs,” manager Mickey Callaway said after the game. “He’s going to get three.”

mookieproof, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 14:14 (seven years ago)

lol Mickey

thx to you last night i was thinking "Mathenaging"

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 17:46 (seven years ago)

Mickey has much to learn from the spirit of Matheny. anyone can imitate it for a night, a few weeks. but let's see him commit to it for 5+ seasons

these are not all of the possible side effects (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 17:51 (seven years ago)

supposedly the Diaz Rules have been imposed by the front office -- but that doesn't explain why his 'three outs' are apparently only for the ninth when leading

mookieproof, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 18:03 (seven years ago)

Brandon Nimmo's first eight games: .077/.250/.077, 0 XBH, 5 BB, 17 K.

Brandon Nimmo's next eight games: .393/.500/.821, 6 XBH, 5 BB, 9 K.

It appears he's figured it out.

31 pitches, 0 outs recorded.

ERA jumps from 1.65 to 4.96

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 23:43 (seven years ago)

Brandon Nimmo still has a ton of soreness in his neck. He took a muscle relaxer, but woke up with little range of motion -- about the same as yesterday.

Nimmo is almost certainly unavailable to pinch-hit today, but he doesn't think it's serious enough to warrant an IL stint.

DeGrom’s elbow is “barking” according to Callaway. He’s been sent back to NY for an MRI.

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 20 April 2019 00:59 (seven years ago)

has 'barking elbow' ever been solved without surgery (apart from tanaka?)

mookieproof, Saturday, 20 April 2019 02:37 (seven years ago)

I know everyone is naturally skeptical when it comes to injuries, and that reputation exists for a reason.

That said, everything I've heard today indicates this really is a minor issue for Jacob deGrom, at least as far as the Mets can tell pre-MRI. The concern level isn't high.

Source: The Mets have acquired right-handed Rays reliever Wilmer Font for cash or a player to be named.

Font throws in the mid-90s with two distinct braking pitches. He had a 5.79 ERA with the Rays and offers the Mets another bullpen option.

that is the least helpful infographic. bags with more than one compartment aren't allowed?

i know you're supposed to click through to the link for details but something tells me quite a few fans aren't going to thoroughly review mets.com/bagpolicy
