I know the club's happy to get rid of him, but they don't to actually thank him for leaving--that's a little much.

tbf i saw a quote from tulo's agent being grateful -- he said shapiro et al were very professional about everything and that it's much better for his client to be cut loose now than at the end of spring training or something

i mean it's kind of insulting, but he still gets paid, and will have more fun playing somewhere where he's wanted (assuming he can ever stay healthy)

pirates will apparently fill that hole in their staff by signing jordan lyles, a right-hander with a career WAR of -3.3

Lyles had some good games last year. Had a perfect game going against Colorado through 7.1 in May.

they each have a 3 year, $60 million contract (2017-19 for encarnacion, 2018-20 for santana), with a one year team option that seems unlikely to be exercised at the end (25.5M for encarnacion, 17.5M for santana)

oh, edwing's 2020 is a team option while santana's is guaranteed, so that makes sense for seattle

until today, i didn't realize that the cardinals will be paying matt holliday $1.4M per year through 2029. i also didn't realize they're paying pujols $1.2M per year through 2029.

That will be team #6 for Alonso in 9 seasons. He has moved around quite a bit.
