not to be a jerk but that wasn't a "stray" batting practice ball, that was myers not paying attention

that's a paper transaction so he can continue getting into game shape -- he's playing third in columbus today

and hit a grand slam
― mookieproof, Monday, 3 September 2018 20:15 (five years ago) link
Not sure what to make of that, he didn't get included in the September call-ups and yet hit a grand slam against a guy who also didn't make the 40-man roster.

he's on a rehab assignment, backdated a few days before the trade. he'll be on the indians sometime next week. they're moving jose ramirez to 2B and kipnis to CF to make room for donaldson at 3B

columbus' season is over, so donaldson will now join double-a akron for its first-round playoff series starting tomorrow
what a disaster for the sanctity of eastern league playoff records

uh, also ohtani hit a HR tonight (a 361-ft home run, but still). he's still cleared to hit
― Karl Malone, Thursday, 6 September 2018 02:33 (five years ago) link
They say it's possible he could play the outfield next year even after TJ? I'm not sure how that would work -- outfielders still have to throw.

gleyber torres had TJ in late june last year, was hitting at the beginning of spring training and playing shortstop no later than the first week of april. so it seems like if he had the surgery now, he might not miss all that much time as a hitter next year. throwing in the upper 90s might be a good bit longer, tho

other AL contenders are reportedly upset about the donaldson trade to clevo -- the jays certified him as major-league healthy and only healthy players can go through waivers (which i didn't know), so his immediate DL-ing and rehab stint should have been unnecessary
kinda sounds like the jays broke the rules and the other teams are mad that they were unable to reap the benefit while the indians did

Re: the Donaldson thing... every team had the same opportunity as the Indians. The jays may have gotten cute with the rules, but I don’t see how the Indians had an advantage over anyone else.

well, the indians had the worst record of the AL playoff teams, so they got to make the waiver claim first
― mookieproof, Wednesday, 12 September 2018 13:06 (five years ago) link
I think Donaldson cleared waivers? If he didn’t then, ya, I could see how that might be a problem.

Apparently (it is September after all) there were plenty of PH-eligible bats on the bench but Maddon left him in and now they're down 2 closers.
