Classic nats lost.

Van Horn Street, Monday, 13 August 2018 03:05 (seven years ago)

immediate nats loss canon

J0rdan S., Monday, 13 August 2018 03:51 (seven years ago)

David Bote just hit the Golden Homer: a walk-off grand slam, down three, and with his team down to his last strike.

For all the years we have pitch data, there are just two other Golden Homers: Chris Hoiles on 5/17/1996 and Alan Trammell on 6/21/1988.

Andy K, Monday, 13 August 2018 12:20 (seven years ago)

that 6/21/88 win was the middle of three straight walk-off wins against the Yankees

brownie, Monday, 13 August 2018 13:15 (seven years ago)

when we got jerseys for our softball team I got NAME and number 1, just like all the samples

frogbs, Monday, 13 August 2018 13:16 (seven years ago)

Nats announcers going completely silent for a full minute during Carpenter's HR was pretty satisfying

The Nationals' broadcast knew it was coming. #stlcards pic.twitter.com/SeoBxFpv4h

Another one!

I wouldn't make fun of their 6 seasons old inability to create a consistent bullpen because that dark arts and laugh at it at your own risk it will soon happen to all of our favorite teams.

Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 14 August 2018 04:55 (seven years ago)

Also: the collapse of Severino, my oh my.

Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 14 August 2018 04:57 (seven years ago)

dodgers bullpen melt down spoiling a nice kershaw game. up one with 2 down and 2 strikes bottom of the 9th and the closer beaned the guy... now they are down 3

InfoWarriors (Spottie), Tuesday, 14 August 2018 05:11 (seven years ago)

carpenter is fucking absurd man

k3vin k., Tuesday, 14 August 2018 06:06 (seven years ago)

Acuna Jr. hit a leadoff home run in both ends of a doubleheader -- he's just the fourth player ever to do it.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Tuesday, 14 August 2018 09:04 (seven years ago)

the best winning percentage in the NL belongs to the Chicago Cubs, 68-49 (.581)

teams with higher winning percentages in the AL:

Red Sox, 85-35 (.708)
Yankees, 74-44 (.627)
Astros, 73-46 (.613)
Athletics, 71-48 (.597)
Mariners, 69-51 (.575)
Indians, 67-51 (.568)

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 14 August 2018 17:41 (seven years ago)

oh sorry, i guess the mariners and indians are slightly beneath the cubs.

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 14 August 2018 17:43 (seven years ago)

well those teams play the Orioles and Royals fairly often

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 14 August 2018 18:40 (seven years ago)

good to see Ryan Braun murdering the Cubs even in a down year

frogbs, Tuesday, 14 August 2018 19:45 (seven years ago)

A first?

yep first career ejection. between that and the shoe color squabble, he's a regular bad boy now

na (NA), Wednesday, 15 August 2018 13:17 (seven years ago)

he was right though

frogbs, Wednesday, 15 August 2018 13:31 (seven years ago)

feel like cuzzi let the notoriously god-fearing zobrist go on for quite some time just to see if he would curse

mookieproof, Wednesday, 15 August 2018 13:59 (seven years ago)

no, i meant the first time a player publicly said "Bring on the robots"

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 15 August 2018 14:27 (seven years ago)

worth striking over imho

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 15 August 2018 14:27 (seven years ago)

zobrist has said it before! http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/20327852/ben-zobrist-chicago-cubs-mlb-needs-electronic-strike-zone

na (NA), Wednesday, 15 August 2018 14:33 (seven years ago)

my understanding is that the 'electronic strike zone' is, at present, not quite as accurate as the average umpire and much more susceptible to crazy errors. and that you shouldn't necessarily trust the various tv depictions of the zone or pitch location graphs

also, yelling at umpires is fun and entertaining and most of them are quite good at what they do -- i think the technology will have to be demonstrably better than the umps, which may not happen, before it is implemented

mookieproof, Wednesday, 15 August 2018 15:13 (seven years ago)

he was right though

― frogbs, Wednesday, August 15, 2018 9:31 AM (six hours ago)

there is no "zone" as the game is currently constructed, only a set of probabilities based on where the pitch is and the situation. that pitch is called a strike about half the time. hitters know this, pitchers know this, tough luck I guess

k3vin k., Wednesday, 15 August 2018 20:24 (seven years ago)

mookie otm

k3vin k., Wednesday, 15 August 2018 20:25 (seven years ago)

I dunno that pitch looked pretty outside to me. wasn't even one of those that looked like it was gonna be in the zone and slid out. I agree that's where it gets tricky, with those final bits of movement over the plate and what not. But that pitch...idk it looked like a clear ball

frogbs, Wednesday, 15 August 2018 20:41 (seven years ago)

quite an OAK-SEA tilt going

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 15 August 2018 21:28 (seven years ago)

Apparently I just missed an interesting first pitch in Marlins-Barves.

a shomin-geki poster with some horror elements (WilliamC), Wednesday, 15 August 2018 23:59 (seven years ago)

First pitch of the bottom half of the inning, that is. (Ureña beaned Acuña to prevent another leadoff homer, Snitker lost his mind, Ureña and Snitker tossed, and now Acuña just came out because the arm doesn't feel right.)

a shomin-geki poster with some horror elements (WilliamC), Thursday, 16 August 2018 00:17 (seven years ago)

i don't blame snitker, that was bullshit

lol at the bullpens having to run in twice

mookieproof, Thursday, 16 August 2018 00:36 (seven years ago)

Just watched the clip--glad the pitcher was ejected.

clemenza, Thursday, 16 August 2018 01:57 (seven years ago)

prediction: some retired red-ass player will bash the braves for not *immediately* charging the field and trying to kill ureña, and will call it a failure of manhood that snitker was more fired up than acuña's own teammates

mookieproof, Thursday, 16 August 2018 02:11 (seven years ago)

lol at the bullpens having to run in twice

Fewer laps tomorrow amirite.

Andy K, Thursday, 16 August 2018 02:17 (seven years ago)

xp - He didn't call out the Braves explicitly, but during the game Brian Jordan said "I woulda been throwin' some hands."

Worst Smiths song

YouTube_-_funy_cats.flv (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Thursday, 16 August 2018 15:38 (seven years ago)

Another thing about pitching inside. The whole “make them uncomfortable...move their feet...brush em back” thing is complete BS. It doesn’t work. When a kid starts playing kid pitch at 8, he gets hit. When he gets to be, say, 12 it hurts a bit more. When he gets to high school...

don't tell Keith Hernandez

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 16 August 2018 17:47 (seven years ago)

Acuna will play today.

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 16 August 2018 19:22 (seven years ago)

pulling Snell after 76 pitches is seriously O_o
like, i get what they're doing with their staff/pen there – but you'd think, if there was one pitcher on their staff they'd let pitch into the 6th and give their pen a tiny rest, it'd be him.

Mad Piratical (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 16 August 2018 20:28 (seven years ago)

johnny crunch, Thursday, 16 August 2018 20:32 (seven years ago)
