(xpost) Came to post the same thing--15 K in 6.1 innings! Obviously couldn't have gone any farther--he'd thrown 111 pitches--but might've threatened 21 otherwise.

clemenza, Sunday, 6 May 2018 20:28 (eight years ago)

8 of the top 10 hitters by fWAR are in the AL. and one of the two NL players is nick markakis. (the other is aj pollock)

Some arguments for Molina to be a first ballot hall of famer on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball, even comparisons to Ozzie Smith.

Van Horn Street, Monday, 7 May 2018 03:02 (eight years ago)

it's getting kind of weird, already. i understand locals doing it because he's a goddamn legend around here, but i don't get the national press/visiting announcers mentioning it all the time as well

obviously DLC (Karl Malone), Monday, 7 May 2018 03:04 (eight years ago)

I’ll be clear here: I’m on the big hall side of things and more catchers could get in, it wouldn’t hurt and if Molina has his plaque I’ll be happy, he seems cool and it also means it will be deserved, I am just thinking they are setting a lof people with expectations there.

Van Horn Street, Monday, 7 May 2018 03:11 (eight years ago)

yeah, they're making it a self-fulfilling prophecy pretty much, because now every year he doesn't get in everyone will be like "but back in his playing days everyone said he was a first ballot hall of famer!"

obviously DLC (Karl Malone), Monday, 7 May 2018 03:13 (eight years ago)

but i'll be happy to see him in the hall, too, if he makes it, even if his numbers don't exactly back it up. and i look forward him to coming back to busch stadium wearing really tacky bright red suit jackets with ozzie, gibson, and the rest of the guys for a long time.

obviously DLC (Karl Malone), Monday, 7 May 2018 03:18 (eight years ago)

He’ll be the Cardinals coach for 17 years, also.

Van Horn Street, Monday, 7 May 2018 03:21 (eight years ago)

JFC at the graphic showing that there was 7000 pitches at 98 mph+ in 2014 and that we are on pace to break 20 000 this season.

Van Horn Street, Monday, 7 May 2018 03:49 (eight years ago)

a-rod: "he's 28 but he probably has the knowledge of a 38-year-old" (talking about Francisco Peña, son of Tony)

obviously DLC (Karl Malone), Monday, 7 May 2018 04:30 (eight years ago)

fuck you, Yadi

I dout he reads this message board Morbs.

Van Horn Street, Monday, 7 May 2018 15:03 (eight years ago)

idk, he seems pretty sensitive to disrespect

(xposts) From a Posnanski column on Markakis:

J. Damon through age 33: 1,845 games, .288/.353/.433, 2,102 hits, 166 homers, 3,162 total bases.
Markakis through age 33: 1,839 games, .288/.358/.422, 2,052 hits, 165 homers, 3,014 total bases.

the ignatius rock of ignorance (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 8 May 2018 00:32 (eight years ago)

both good players! but there's a pretty big gap in WAR, presumably because damon's lack of power played better in center than markakis' in right + baserunning

the latter is off to a hell of a start this year

bending over backwards to grade catchers on a curve is the new on base percentage I guess

if Yadi makes the HOF Jim Sundberg should activate his dormant Veteran's Committee campaign.

omar little, Tuesday, 8 May 2018 16:22 (eight years ago)

off-topic but i thought this was interesting. i never think of the blue jays as a powerhouse 80s team but they were just consistently good

is that torii or latroy?

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 8 May 2018 19:08 (eight years ago)

torii

mookieproof, Tuesday, 8 May 2018 19:18 (eight years ago)

Maybe giving him too much credit here, but I think he's talking about launching the ball by "cutting the ball in half" and generating backspin? Not sure about how that applies to Donaldson though, who seems the poster boy for this uppercut/fly-ball revolution

DACA Flocka Flame (Hadrian VIII), Tuesday, 8 May 2018 19:21 (eight years ago)

@TBrownYahoo
The Reds are nearing a trade for Matt Harvey. Very close, according to source.

yikes

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 8 May 2018 22:14 (eight years ago)

done deal, for Mesoraco

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 8 May 2018 22:22 (eight years ago)

interesting... i guess mesoraco is as damaged as harvey at this point if not worse

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 May 2018 22:23 (eight years ago)

D Bundy's getting lit up, geez

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 8 May 2018 23:16 (eight years ago)

Mesoraco looked like a potential beast at catcher for a minute but wow that was four years ago. he's making $13 million this year??

omar little, Tuesday, 8 May 2018 23:19 (eight years ago)

he signed a 4-year deal after his all-star season, 2015-18, i think

obviously DLC (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 8 May 2018 23:22 (eight years ago)

i think injuries/concussions kind of ruined things for him

danny duffy's got a ten-run lead before he even takes the mound

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 8 May 2018 23:33 (eight years ago)

Dylan Bundy faced seven hitters. He allowed four homers, seven base runners, two walks and seven runs. He did not record an out. His Game Score was -19, which ranks tied for the 13th worst of all time and the second worst since after 1940.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 8 May 2018 23:36 (eight years ago)

yeah, but he built a lot of character

obviously DLC (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 8 May 2018 23:42 (eight years ago)

that's the kind of outing that has dr neal el attrache waiting by the phone

mookieproof, Tuesday, 8 May 2018 23:44 (eight years ago)

As you might've guessed, per @baseball_ref Play Index, Dylan Bundy is the first starter ever to allow 4 HR without recording an out. (Three starters allowed 3 HR w/o getting an out, the last Phil Dumatrait in 2007.)

like he's an orca

the ignatius rock of ignorance (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 9 May 2018 04:41 (eight years ago)

He has put on weight, yes

YouTube_-_funy_cats.flv (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Wednesday, 9 May 2018 13:18 (eight years ago)

I'm sure Harvey will get bored up on Vine St. at 2am and probably drown his sorrows in some Cincinnati chili.

earlnash, Wednesday, 9 May 2018 15:55 (eight years ago)

A drunk Harvey forgets what year it is and looks to a once familiar Skyline to try to reorient himself - a disastrous night follows

obviously DLC (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 9 May 2018 16:13 (eight years ago)

too bad we don't know literally anything about cincinnati other than their gross chili or we could keep the fun going

i still don't even know how to spell it

DACA Flocka Flame (Hadrian VIII), Wednesday, 9 May 2018 16:57 (eight years ago)

Pete Kozma's first plate appearance as a Tiger is a home run off Bartolo Colon.
