Thru his first two starts as a pitcher, Shohei Ohtani has worked an 0-2 count in 48.9% of batters faced, more than 2x the MLB average https://t.co/48WTsMvFMm pic.twitter.com/x8cAUfBXnP

GOATani

21st savagery fox (m bison), Tuesday, 10 April 2018 00:29 (eight years ago)

a 3-run triple tonight, looks like?

Next pitching once again on a Sunday in KC; I forget the precise meaning of "Sunday pitcher" in the deadball era.

the ignatius rock of ignorance (Dr Morbius), Friday, 13 April 2018 02:28 (eight years ago)

0.4 fWAR hitting and 0.6 pitching, so far

Karl Malone, Friday, 13 April 2018 02:54 (eight years ago)

i know it's kind of silly to start looking at that this early, but it's fun.

Karl Malone, Friday, 13 April 2018 02:54 (eight years ago)

At what point does Scoscia consider moving him out of the 8th spot?

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 13 April 2018 03:12 (eight years ago)

mid-october.

Van Horn Street, Friday, 13 April 2018 03:13 (eight years ago)

Moving him into th 8 spot is progressive for soscia otani is a pitcher after all

YouTube_-_funy_cats.flv (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Friday, 13 April 2018 03:44 (eight years ago)

Pleased about today postponement as it forces the Angels off their lame "every Sunday" shtick. Now S.O. pitches Tuesday night at home vs Boston, with eight days' rest!

the ignatius rock of ignorance (Dr Morbius), Monday, 16 April 2018 02:49 (eight years ago)

shohei don't hurt 'em

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Monday, 16 April 2018 07:20 (eight years ago)

Blisters no no no no

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 18 April 2018 03:58 (eight years ago)

they're saying he should be good for his next start... but Aaron Sanchez missed a good chunk of last year with blister issues they made worse by bringing him back too soon on two separate occasions.

Mad Piratical (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 18 April 2018 13:45 (eight years ago)

shohei says it won't effect his hitting...maybe he's a full-time DH while he heals?

bhad bhabie...you gon' hurt your bhack (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 18 April 2018 13:46 (eight years ago)

Shohei's foot speed has got to be his most underrated quality. Faster than Upton or Simmons, for example. Fastest DH by a large margin.

DH Shohei Ohtani 27.9 ft/s
RF Jarrod Dyson 29.2
CF Byron Buxton 30.6
LF Derek Fisher 29.5
SS Trea Turner 29.9
3B Scott Kingery 29.4
2B Ozzie Albies 29.1
1B Cody Bellinger 28.3
C Jorge Alfaro 27.8

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Thursday, 19 April 2018 19:56 (eight years ago)

the slowest sprint speed in all of MLB is pujols (22.6 ft/s)

Karl Malone, Thursday, 19 April 2018 19:59 (eight years ago)

I believe you mean 22.6 s/ft

omar little, Thursday, 19 April 2018 20:16 (eight years ago)

lol

i remember when he used to be pretty nimble for a big guy! seems like forever ago

Karl Malone, Thursday, 19 April 2018 20:19 (eight years ago)

batting 6th!

the ignatius rock of ignorance (Dr Morbius), Friday, 20 April 2018 02:05 (eight years ago)

apparently he hit 100 eight times last night... rest of MLB has 9 this year

the ignatius rock of ignorance (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 25 April 2018 14:12 (eight years ago)

Hicks has hit 100 at least 35x this year

francisF, Wednesday, 25 April 2018 16:58 (eight years ago)

maybe MLB starters

francisF, Wednesday, 25 April 2018 16:59 (eight years ago)

Have the Angels addressed whether he'll play a position at all this season, or will he be a pure DH?

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Wednesday, 25 April 2018 19:34 (eight years ago)

I'm only going by the boxscore, but he didn't seem to pitch particularly well yesterday.

clemenza, Wednesday, 25 April 2018 21:25 (eight years ago)

I watched it, and he didn't.

WilliamC, Wednesday, 25 April 2018 21:38 (eight years ago)

threw gas tho

k3vin k., Wednesday, 25 April 2018 21:49 (eight years ago)

apparently he throws one (1) curveball per game; the one i saw last night was pretty decent, if mostly for the sheer surprise of him throwing something in the mid-to-high 70s

mookieproof, Wednesday, 25 April 2018 21:55 (eight years ago)

Fun game tonight so far.

WilliamC, Saturday, 28 April 2018 02:49 (eight years ago)

Any idea why Shohei got pulled for a pinch hitter?

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Saturday, 28 April 2018 04:34 (eight years ago)

sprained his ankle apparently

k3vin k., Saturday, 28 April 2018 04:38 (eight years ago)

about to start vs M's

the ignatius rock of ignorance (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 6 May 2018 20:00 (eight years ago)

two weeks pass...

Are we to assume he starts in the Bronx vs Tanaka next Sunday?

the ignatius rock of ignorance (Dr Morbius), Monday, 21 May 2018 16:30 (eight years ago)

slotted for Wednesday night in Detroit now

the ignatius rock of ignorance (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 27 May 2018 13:31 (eight years ago)

apparently threw a 101 pitch last night

the ignatius rock of ignorance (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 31 May 2018 11:25 (eight years ago)

y'all watching?

In his first 8 starts, the opp are hitting .375 off his fastball and .081 off everything else in his repertoire.

the ignatius rock of ignorance (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 7 June 2018 02:38 (eight years ago)

basketball game on tonight iirc

k3vin k., Thursday, 7 June 2018 02:52 (eight years ago)

Left the game in the fifth, was blowing on his pitching hand... blisters?

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Thursday, 7 June 2018 05:22 (eight years ago)

yeah blister is what I'm hearing too

k3vin k., Thursday, 7 June 2018 05:29 (eight years ago)

James:
Do the Angels need to change how they use Ohtani to maximize their potential? Even as a rival fan it is tough to watch Scioscia send Pujols and Kinsler out at the top of the order while Ohatni sits a third of the time.

Jay Jaffe:
I think they can push Ohtani harder as far as DH duty goes, but given his blister issues and workload concerns, I don’t see them pushing him harder on the mound. Scioscia needs to bat Kinsler much lower in the lineup, and Arte needs to authorize Pujols’ release, but those are separate issues from Ohtani’s usage.

the ignatius rock of ignorance (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 7 June 2018 20:07 (eight years ago)

Even as a rival fan it is tough to watch Scioscia send Pujols and Kinsler out at the top of the order while Ohatni sits a third of the time.

Kinsler has been warming up: .900 OBP with 4 HRs over the past 2 weeks.

Otani is .750 over the same stretch (and now will be possibly benched until his blisters subside).

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Thursday, 7 June 2018 20:52 (eight years ago)

uh oh

Shohei Ohtani will be placed on the disabled list with a grade 2 sprain of the UCL. He underwent a PRP and Stem Cell injection yesterday with Dr. Steve Yoon in Los Angeles. He will be re-evaluated in 3 weeks and we will update his plan of care at that time.

mookieproof, Friday, 8 June 2018 19:01 (eight years ago)

oh please no

k3vin k., Friday, 8 June 2018 19:03 (eight years ago)

I guess the blister was on his UCL... lol.

Poor guy, I really hope this doesn't turn out like Daisuke Matsuzaka pt 2.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 8 June 2018 19:47 (eight years ago)

I'mma lobby for a minimum of 6 DL spots on any fantasy league I join next year.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 8 June 2018 19:48 (eight years ago)

well there goes his All-Star DH spot

i guess the rest of MLB is gonna suck along with the Mets now

the ignatius rock of ignorance (Dr Morbius), Friday, 8 June 2018 23:59 (eight years ago)

Baseball just got a lot less interesting this year.

I'm trying to recall the last time a black magic solution for avoiding TJ surgery actually worked ...?

NoTimeBeforeTime, Sunday, 10 June 2018 07:22 (eight years ago)

tanaka is the only example i can recall

k3vin k., Sunday, 10 June 2018 17:44 (eight years ago)

“Everything I’m hearing is that the reality is, he probably will need Tommy John surgery,” @pedrogomezESPN reports grim news for Shohei Ohtani and @Angels just now on @sportscenter. “The earliest we might see him, should he have TJ surgery, would be the 2020 season.”
