Andy K, Tuesday, 11 October 2016 23:57 (seven years ago) link

Shadow went away along with Krershaw's win.

Neither of these clubs seem able to pitch well inside today at all. Ron Hunt would be proud.

earlnash, Tuesday, 11 October 2016 23:58 (seven years ago) link

here comes the 'he is not clutch' brigades (not on ILB thankfully).

@keithlaw

I think Roberts made about as bad a series of tactical decisions as you'll see in an MLB game.

The Hon. J. Piedmont Mumblethunder (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 12 October 2016 01:49 (seven years ago) link

what were they besides sticking w/ CK?

The Hon. J. Piedmont Mumblethunder (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 12 October 2016 01:52 (seven years ago) link

He burnt that right-handed reliever who came in and plunked that guy in one pitch, could be one I suppose.

earlnash, Wednesday, 12 October 2016 02:22 (seven years ago) link

good read

Kershaw's postseason relievers have allowed 9 of 14 inherited runners to score.

on a very related note

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 12 October 2016 16:35 (seven years ago) link

i think it's ok to admit that kershaw just hasn't been great in the postseason. even if all 9 of those runners had been stranded, his postseason ERA would still be 3.77

k3vin k., Wednesday, 12 October 2016 16:39 (seven years ago) link

sure, but that's... lower!

The Hon. J. Piedmont Mumblethunder (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 12 October 2016 17:22 (seven years ago) link

No matter how much you massage the stats, he hasn't been nearly as dominant as in the regular season.

The sixth and seventh inning meltdowns are real. There was that game a couple of years ago against the Cardinals when he was dominating and then inexplicably gave up a go ahead three run homer to Matt Adams. I think Kershaw had given up one HR on his curve to a LHB in the previous three years. When it happens in the playoffs that's not bad luck or a small sample size, that's a guy making a horrible pitch at the worst possible time.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Wednesday, 12 October 2016 18:16 (seven years ago) link

Yes, i was lamenting in a bar the other day that Kershawgod disappears in October.

It's funny that the Effectively Wild podcast has been obsessing over Rich Hill all year (mostly guessing what his market value will be this winter) and he gets to start this game.

The Hon. J. Piedmont Mumblethunder (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 12 October 2016 19:11 (seven years ago) link

tbh he hasn't been vintage since coming off the dl

when your choices for a pinch hitter are yasiel puig and a dude i've never heard of who happens to have hit a home run against this pitcher earlier this year, you have to go with that second dude
