yeah, I miss old Soldier Field. Went to the last regular-season game there.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 21 June 2004 03:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Albert Belle was still available in fantasy leagues last year because of his contract, ha.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 21 June 2004 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

For a month or so last year, every ILB-affiliated league transaction involved picking up & dropping Albert Belle. It was sublime.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 21 June 2004 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Can't tell you how much fun it was "watching" that Sat night game on the Outta Town Scoreboard... If beers at Shea weren't $5.75, I woulda had to invent a drinking game. Some of those pitching lines look like lottery tickets:

No wonder I didn't know who Shingo was, ESPN doesn't even have a profile up yet.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah yes, Arnie Munoz, yet another in the long line of failed 5th starters brought up from the minors this year; the Sox are now recycling these guys, and Jon Rauch (who left the park prior to the finish of his last major league start) starts this Thursday against the Tribe.

Sox got some problems.

What is that racist logo doing in our thread?

Kerry (dymaxia), Thursday, 24 June 2004 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

smiling devilishly it appears.

speaking of devilish smiles did anyone see the pic of jack ryan on the front page of the tribune yesterday? the only things he was missing were the horns, tail, and pitchfork.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 24 June 2004 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Go Rauch!

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Thursday, 24 June 2004 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm gonna start counterfeiting playoff tickets.

Why isn't Walt Harris playing?? Nursing an injury or getting outplayed?

Picard Maneuver (Leee), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Why isn't Walt Harris playing?? Nursing an injury or getting outplayed?

Last I checked, Walt Harris was leaving worn jocks all over Soldier Field while a cornerback for Da Bears. Willie Harris has been getting platooned for both Rowand in CF and Uribe at 2B, and so far it hasn't hurt the Sox too much.

This week's series against the Twins is going smoothly; Buehrle was like butter last night and Freddy Garcia did OK in his first start in a Sox uni -- if Jose Valentin doesn't blow a possible double play ball, the score ends up being 9-4 Sox. Shingo gave up his first run in over 26 IP tonight, on a pounded Joe Mauer dinger.

Sox are currently up 1 game on the Twins, so no complaints here...

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Thursday, 1 July 2004 02:41 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
Crazy Carl don't waste no time! Aaaaah...that was vintage May 2004 or something.

Kerry (dymaxia), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 02:06 (twenty-one years ago)

So, two shutouts in a row of the hottest hitting team in beisbol, the Tribe. Buehrle flirting with a perfect game/no hitter last night, and Garcia with a fine effort today. The Indians were just 3-1/2 back before yesterday's game, so it's good to see the Sox not looking past them. This is a huge stretch of the season, when the Sox play all AL Central opponents, so they can pick up some ground here...IF the Twins would finally lose a game or two. Sheesh.

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Friday, 23 July 2004 03:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Cliff Lee had had a couple of good starts before that Sox game and like the Reds about a month ago, he got shelled.

Ouch...should of had him on the bench for my fantasy team.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Friday, 23 July 2004 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

how did the Twins suddenly pick up a half game? I haven't been paying attention this week.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 23 July 2004 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm deeply saddened by loss to the pale hose.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Friday, 23 July 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

On Tuesday the Twins beat the Tigers in 10 innings while the White Sox lost to the Rangers 6-4. Other than that, they've been mirroring each other's performance for the last 10 days or so.

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Friday, 23 July 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I am going to the game tonight. It will be my first professional baseball game in 14 years.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Friday, 23 July 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

have fun. Fireworks after?

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 23 July 2004 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

It was fun. We didn't stay for fireworks. I spent half an hour searching for the veggie dogs that they theoretically have at US Cellular (according to their website). The El ride home wasn't as crowded as I feared. It was a really fast game (started at 7, we were home by 10). Oh yeah, and Sox won.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Monday, 26 July 2004 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

The White Sox come back on Saturday night against the Tigers was great. Hopefully they can right the ship against the two losses since Saturday tonight against the Twins.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

So...................when's football season start?

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

[BBT, I left you a message on the Dutch Music Acts thread on ILM.]

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I was there today. Ugh. Anyway, NA, the veggie dogs are under the fan deck which is behind center field. That's all I have to say for now, because I heard enough bitching on the way home. I got all the frustration out of my system while waiting to leave the park. Jacque Jones turned to the crowd and held up three fingers at the end of the game. That had me fuming, but it was a nice cathartic focal point, 'cos I yelled at him. Not that he heard me or anything.

Kerry (dymaxia), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

shingo got robbed, there's no way he would have lost that game without a botch like that.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

WTF is up with Shingo's theme music? It's all like "Ching chong ching chong ching ching chong (gong crash!)" With a SLAMMIN' techno beat. Is he Japanese or something? I wasn't sure.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, don't get me started. A lot of the new introductions this year are absolute crap - stupid, embarrassing, grating, you name it. Much of the music is horrible. The last thing we need is PR that doesn't do much to dispel stereotypes about ignorant, tacky south siders. Jeezus, turn the volume down just a little.

Kerry (dymaxia), Thursday, 29 July 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

um, maybe firing that hawk hawkins guy would be a good start

John (jdahlem), Thursday, 29 July 2004 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Who is 'Hawk Hawkins'?

Kerry (dymaxia), Thursday, 29 July 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

A crosstown two-headed monster who destroys LEADS and EARS with reckless impunity!

mattbot (mattbot), Thursday, 29 July 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu can PUT IT ON THE BOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD,

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

John (jdahlem), Thursday, 29 July 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Kerry, supposedly Shingo is cool with his intro music and likes how it excites the fans.

Broheems and I were like "What's up with the gong?" when we first heard it.

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Thursday, 29 July 2004 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, the Shingo techno thing didn't grate on me as much as the bombast at the beginning of the games (although the gong sound after a K is kinda stupid). Also, those 'steam room' pictures are horrible.

Kerry (dymaxia), Thursday, 29 July 2004 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

As a first-timer, I thought the steamy pics and the gongs were pretty fucking hilarious in a WTF? kinda way. And the crowd was seriously pumped for Shingo. I think that was the most excitement shown through the whole game.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 29 July 2004 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Your 2004 White Sux : Willie Embarrass, Este-bad Lo-I-suck, Joe Cruddy, Juan Urealbad, Steamo Poo-rez, Damaso Farte, Cleft Palate, Jon Fatkins, Ross Choad, Jose No-talentin, Carl Everhurt ... [/troll]

Kerry (dymaxia), Saturday, 31 July 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

TRADED: Lo-I-Suck for Jose Can't-Spare-Us

gygax! (gygax!), Saturday, 31 July 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

sounds like a dumb trade by the yanks to me.

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 31 July 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

contreras is at least capable of dominating, has dominated for long stretches, and seems to at least have a chance of turning it around and becoming a top of the rotation type of pitcher.

loaiza, meanwhile, is a shitty pitcher.

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 31 July 2004 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

That sounds about right, John. Someone on another board joked that maybe the 10,000 Loaiza bobbleheads were sent to New York, too.

Kerry (dymaxia), Saturday, 31 July 2004 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i don't know what cashman was thinking. it was a good salary dump? it will free up 8 mil next year, and as long as loaiza doesn't accept arbitration we'll get a draft pick or two...other than that, no positives at all.

though i did hear some guy on FSN saying this trade is a sign that the white sox are "waving the white flag in the AL central". uh...who pays these people?

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 31 July 2004 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

See "Trade Rumours" thread for my thoughts, ie, Loaiza is the shittier of the two only in the Bizarro world.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Right now, there's only one white flag in the AL Central, and it's got Royal blue trim on it.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Twins 13-2 in their last 15 games, while the White Sox get blown out by one of the worst teams in the game...I think I hear the fat lady a-warmin' up. The Sox have NO shot at the AL Wild Card.

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Thursday, 5 August 2004 02:38 (twenty-one years ago)

White Sox reacquire Robbie Alomar from the D-backs in a very deja vu moment for them (see Everett, Carl). Well, at least Robbie can get on base, bunt and field pretty well. Doubt this'll make much an impact, but here's hoping...

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Thursday, 5 August 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Sad.

What did they give up, Diaz and Anderson?

This team is a joke.

Monetizing Eyeballs (diamond), Thursday, 5 August 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe KW can trade Mike Sirotka for David Wells again, too.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 5 August 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Jose Paniagua is coming back, too.

Kerry (dymaxia), Thursday, 5 August 2004 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)
