Well that didn't work out but Escobar didn't do anything either and Gallo didn't play so that's about par for the course for me lately.

does anyone do fanduel/draft kings etc?

1992 ball boy (Karl Malone), Saturday, 4 July 2015 15:37 (ten years ago)

tbh it's kind of taken over my fantasy baseball shit this year. i've been playing $2 games and using 3 different methods for selecting teams each day, tracking the results meticulously in an attempt to develop a formula that wins reliably enough for me to quit my job and hang out on the beach and watch seagulls while getting wasted

1992 ball boy (Karl Malone), Saturday, 4 July 2015 15:39 (ten years ago)

anyway i was thinking of starting a thread but wanted to see if anyone else participates in daily leagues

1992 ball boy (Karl Malone), Saturday, 4 July 2015 15:39 (ten years ago)

i have been avoiding them for some reason. do you love it?

polyphonic, Saturday, 4 July 2015 16:11 (ten years ago)

for me to quit my job and hang out on the beach and watch seagulls while getting wasted

and then to bet on this, yes

johnny crunch, Saturday, 4 July 2015 16:29 (ten years ago)

i've gotten a little obsessed. i got a lot more interested when i found out about some of the different options for playing. right now i play strictly 50/50 leagues, which means that if you place in the top 50 out of 100 for a contest, you win - doesn't matter whether you finish in 1st or 49th place. they have the 50/50 contests at different price levels, but i play the $2 games which give you $3.60 if you win. so basically, if you can place in the top half of the contest 55% of the time, you'll break even. i like the 50/50 games because they reward having a consistent method - i don't have to rely on luck to pick someone who has a 2 HR game, i just need to pick a set of players who will get me consistent production so that i can get into the top half of the field of entries.

a lot of other people play head-to-head games and tournament style entries where placing in the top 3 gets you a ton of money and you have to place in the top 10% or so to make any money back. i might dabble with those later but for now i'm very content to refine my 50/50 method. currently i'm winning 65% of my games, well past the 55% breakeven point.

only benching dee and robinson next week due to matchups btw

also i get to keep green players for free next year, and other playesr cost their draft value (up to 4)... probably trout 1, bryant whatever probably 3, and whoever else has a decent value next year (keeper cost based on average draft pos)

Bouncy Castlevania (Will M.), Thursday, 27 August 2015 07:04 (ten years ago)

something has gone horribly wrong when my starting OF's total age (4 slots) rn is 147 yrs

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 02:12 (ten years ago)

That's an average age of 37! Don't even know how you pulled that off. Is Torii Hunter involved?!

AKA Thermo Thinwall (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 1 September 2015 04:06 (ten years ago)

only just grabbed him, kinda feel he could heat up idk. same theory w/ beltran/byrd really

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 14:58 (ten years ago)

I made this for my irl league. I'm Michael. The highlighted part is a deep tiebreaker I'm not sure about. Should be a stressful week!

win rule is just pissing me off so much lately late season/playoffs now. just give it to the fucking starting pitcher if he did a decent job. i really don't get it. why are umps allowed to award it willy-nilly to middle relievers who threw 8 pitches if they don't think the SP did well enough but it doesn't work the other way around? i got fucked out of two wins that way towards the end of the season. now my playoffs w/$450 prize are in somewhat more jeopardy because my wily peralta isn't going to get a W for a well-pitched game and his francisco rodriguez is going to get a W because he blew a save.

i typically actually defend wins as a stat in FBB but fuck wins

qualx, Friday, 11 September 2015 04:02 (ten years ago)

fuck quality starts too don't even start with that

qualx, Friday, 11 September 2015 04:03 (ten years ago)

finished in the 8 seed with a 6-9-6 record. Currently leading against the 1 seed

polyphonic, Friday, 11 September 2015 04:12 (ten years ago)

i can't buy a win to save my life right now. i feel you on that

polyphonic, Friday, 11 September 2015 04:13 (ten years ago)

that's a lot of playoff teams

tbf i lucked my way into a playoff spot (and my money back) with a shit team in my h2h points league because this year the guy in charge thought it'd be a good idea to have 4 3-team divisions

i'm getting destroyed though

qualx, Friday, 11 September 2015 04:14 (ten years ago)

ONCE AGAIN. noah syndergaard allows one run in seven innings. tyler clippard allows three runs in one inning. guess who's getting the win!!

don't ask me why my playoff opponent has tyler clippard i don't know

qualx, Sunday, 13 September 2015 02:22 (ten years ago)

also fuck brett gardner

$560 total on $150 between two leagues. should've been more. missed out on another $20 by .0004 of batting average.

qualx, Tuesday, 6 October 2015 04:00 (ten years ago)

got tied at 2nd on the last day of the year in a roto. FUCK. it was a dumb league with a low innings limit and weekly locked rosters and i managed to do ok but at the end i hit the 1000 IP and the guy in third was way back and he started like 7 SPs in the last week (using the dirty SPARP trick) and just caught me. went from like 90 to 45 on 20... i actually don't even remember how much it is, but it's LESS NOW.

also in my h2h pts league i set a 4-year record for regular season points, then my team plopped one in the semis, and then in the "finals" (when my team wasn't counted because our league is 100% payout to #1) i would have set an all-time points record. fuck fantasy baseball

nerd shit (Will M.), Tuesday, 6 October 2015 05:06 (ten years ago)

in my big money league there's no limits on pitching, at all, because the guy who runs it is an obsessive streamer, and the playoffs every year end in a ridiculous war over every starter

i still managed to pull off a 2.66 ERA and 1.10 WHIP and 235 Ks in 229 innings in the finals though (he had 241 total). i had a freakishly good playoff run, 4 RBI away from sweeping both rounds. i don't think i'll ever have a team this good again.

qualx, Tuesday, 6 October 2015 05:14 (ten years ago)

seven months pass...

i'm in two H2H leagues and both my opponents had 3 HRs from corey seager today

and both had 5 HR on monday

my uncle, who is always in last place and reliable for a good boost if you're facing him, got 8 home runs yesterday

on a monday where his entire lineup isn't even playing

me today, knowing that i need HR and AVG and i probably have bags down because he doesn't have any burners, decides to bench billy hamilton

who hits a home run

I've been clinging to my first place position, down to a half point lead for the past few days. The guy in second place has Jose Fernandez and Mike Leake for a total of 25 Ks over 12 innings so far tonight so that's it for me.

Immediate Follower (NA), Tuesday, 19 July 2016 02:11 (nine years ago)

oh ya – that would explain the big jump i had last night in our league!

qualx, Friday, 19 August 2016 05:09 (nine years ago)

lmao h2h league, the person im matched up w this week after one day their offense went 10/30 and 7 of the ten hits were homeruns

http://deadspin.com/show-us-your-earliest-fantasy-team-1785807487

i just checked my earliest fantasy team and i actually won the league, with one of my OFers being JAY PAYTON. i remember the good ol' days when you'd be languishing somewhere down in fourth place and then your fifth OFer, a guy like payton or let's say jeffrey hammonds, would get traded to the Rockies and suddenly start hitting like Dante Bichette (which is to say, empty IRL but astronomically helpful in FBB.)

nomar, Friday, 26 August 2016 20:25 (nine years ago)

weird, i was just looking at some of my old teams today! unfortunately the earliest baseball one i have is 2006, i was more into other sports apparently in ~2001. Looking at my team from 10 years ago (when I knew NOTHING about baseball or fantasy in general, really... lil baby me) now... btw you cna also click "draft results."

Apparently I took Johan Santana 2nd overall. LOL. I guess he was the #1 pitcher but 2nd overall? Then it keeps going and it's clear that I know (a) jays guys and (b) think japanese names are cool. Glaus, Delgado, DiceK, Damon, Kenji Johjima, Aki Iwamura, Frank Thomas... no wonder this team finished 7/12. Fuck.

a simba man (Will M.), Friday, 26 August 2016 20:45 (nine years ago)

lol my earliest team was 2003 - 1st draft pick was barry bonds; 4th rd pick was bartolo colon!; last rd pick was adam hyzdu

johnny crunch, Friday, 26 August 2016 21:06 (nine years ago)

my final roster from that team has 3 players still active! papi, beltre, and bart

johnny crunch, Friday, 26 August 2016 21:08 (nine years ago)

i signed into yahoo for the first time in ages and it doesn't seem to have any FBB info, no idea where to go to find that if it still exists

qualx, Friday, 26 August 2016 23:10 (nine years ago)

i CAN get to a 2009 espn league because i'm still in it

it's a doozy

i really hate playoff season

qualx, Wednesday, 7 September 2016 02:33 (nine years ago)

especially when you're opposed by a team with brian dozier

and you have tony watson on one of your teams

qualx, Wednesday, 7 September 2016 02:36 (nine years ago)

and cole hamels decides to fuck me yesterday

qualx, Wednesday, 7 September 2016 02:37 (nine years ago)

8 homers today for one of my opponents

this is in a league where i finished the regular season as the leader in 6 categories and second in 2 more

qualx, Wednesday, 7 September 2016 03:47 (nine years ago)

i'm currently in first place in mine, probably gonna set the regular season record after 5 years of play, and the team that is gonna sneak into fourth did so on dozier and freeman's backs (he was in last place out of 10 before the ASB) which is... concerning

i like the dude and i was cheering for him to pull this epic comeback but now i am looking at the current 2-4 teams and going SHIT THEY ARE ALL FLAMING OUT but this dude is RESURGENT
