first day of H2H playoffs (FOR MONEY OK IT MATTERS) and miggy goes 4/5 with 2 homers on my bench cause ESPN notifications said he wouldn't be playing

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Tuesday, 2 September 2014 01:45 (eleven years ago)

opponent's pitching staff has thus far allowed 1 ER in 27 innings

incl jarred cosart, who he picked out of free agency 2 minutes before i could

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Saturday, 6 September 2014 01:00 (eleven years ago)

in the past few weeks i've lost yu darvish, anibal sanchez, anthony rizzo, starlin castro and daniel murphy

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Saturday, 6 September 2014 01:00 (eleven years ago)

two weeks pass...

now desperately sprinting towards 3rd place ($125) with no pitching limits so at this point it becomes a free agent free-for-all trying to take wins and K's, and among my opponent's 6 matchups today he had arrieta, lohse and buehrle. only one stinker. 40 innings, 1.99 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 43 K's. 3 wins. jfc. now i'm scared. meanwhile i started jake odorizzi (3IP 5ER) and jake odorizzi (3IP 5ER) only.

so now i'm doing something that probably isn't kosher and scooping up as many FA probables as i can with no intention of playing them, just so he doesn't get them. it isn't against the rules but eeeehhhhh

Guys I got this trade offer in my other GLORPING league and I need feedback... on the face of it it's a great deal for me.

Pts league (TB+RBI+R, +2(SB)-CS) where we get two minor league keeper slots for free.
The offer I got:
Jose Reyes + Rusney Castillo (M), for
Xander Bogaerts + Corey Seager (M)

I think he wins the minor league deal, Seager is more exciting than Castillo, but like... Reyes for Xander? Am I insane to not pull the trigger on that?

Who M the best? (Will M.), Monday, 27 April 2015 14:55 (eleven years ago)

i accepted it bc life's too short

Who M the best? (Will M.), Monday, 27 April 2015 15:55 (eleven years ago)

^ Lol :(

Who M the best? (Will M.), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 15:11 (eleven years ago)

so you're to blame for Reyes!

AKA Thermo Thinwall (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 15:15 (eleven years ago)

hey, he needed to go on the DL when I traded for him... they finally PUT him on the DL when I DID trade for him... so... you're welcome!

Who do I start at 3B today - Yunel Escobar, Joey Gallo, or Kyle Seager?

Immediate Follower (NA), Thursday, 11 June 2015 15:08 (ten years ago)

5x5 roto?

Who M the best? (Will M.), Thursday, 11 June 2015 15:10 (ten years ago)

tough to look past seager. hitting .300 in june, against shaun marcum today, doesn't give you a 50% K rate (gallo -- small sample, but not out of line with expectations either) or a .074 ISO with only one steal on the year (Yunel). in fact, trade joey gallo now unless it's a dynasty/keeper!

Who M the best? (Will M.), Thursday, 11 June 2015 15:17 (ten years ago)

Thanks. I'm new to this but my league seems pretty conservative about trading. I'm not seeing anyone doing much trading at all, and I've put up a couple of offers recently that were just ignored for several days, not even rejected.

Immediate Follower (NA), Thursday, 11 June 2015 15:29 (ten years ago)

i put gallo on the trading block after one game and got eduardo rodriguez and jorge soler for him

polyphonic, Thursday, 11 June 2015 15:36 (ten years ago)

polyphonic that is a dope deal you made. is it a keeper? frnakly keeper or no, you win that deal (especially if you can bench soler until he heats up)

Who M the best? (Will M.), Thursday, 11 June 2015 15:43 (ten years ago)

yeah i plugged him in my dl slot which was empty. already fairly loaded at 3b (longoria and rendon)

not keeper

polyphonic, Thursday, 11 June 2015 15:45 (ten years ago)

especially fun because i picked gallo off the free agent pile the previous day

polyphonic, Thursday, 11 June 2015 15:46 (ten years ago)

Well that didn't work out but Escobar didn't do anything either and Gallo didn't play so that's about par for the course for me lately.

does anyone do fanduel/draft kings etc?

1992 ball boy (Karl Malone), Saturday, 4 July 2015 15:37 (ten years ago)

tbh it's kind of taken over my fantasy baseball shit this year. i've been playing $2 games and using 3 different methods for selecting teams each day, tracking the results meticulously in an attempt to develop a formula that wins reliably enough for me to quit my job and hang out on the beach and watch seagulls while getting wasted

1992 ball boy (Karl Malone), Saturday, 4 July 2015 15:39 (ten years ago)

anyway i was thinking of starting a thread but wanted to see if anyone else participates in daily leagues

1992 ball boy (Karl Malone), Saturday, 4 July 2015 15:39 (ten years ago)

i have been avoiding them for some reason. do you love it?

polyphonic, Saturday, 4 July 2015 16:11 (ten years ago)

for me to quit my job and hang out on the beach and watch seagulls while getting wasted

and then to bet on this, yes

johnny crunch, Saturday, 4 July 2015 16:29 (ten years ago)

i've gotten a little obsessed. i got a lot more interested when i found out about some of the different options for playing. right now i play strictly 50/50 leagues, which means that if you place in the top 50 out of 100 for a contest, you win - doesn't matter whether you finish in 1st or 49th place. they have the 50/50 contests at different price levels, but i play the $2 games which give you $3.60 if you win. so basically, if you can place in the top half of the contest 55% of the time, you'll break even. i like the 50/50 games because they reward having a consistent method - i don't have to rely on luck to pick someone who has a 2 HR game, i just need to pick a set of players who will get me consistent production so that i can get into the top half of the field of entries.

a lot of other people play head-to-head games and tournament style entries where placing in the top 3 gets you a ton of money and you have to place in the top 10% or so to make any money back. i might dabble with those later but for now i'm very content to refine my 50/50 method. currently i'm winning 65% of my games, well past the 55% breakeven point.

only benching dee and robinson next week due to matchups btw

also i get to keep green players for free next year, and other playesr cost their draft value (up to 4)... probably trout 1, bryant whatever probably 3, and whoever else has a decent value next year (keeper cost based on average draft pos)

Bouncy Castlevania (Will M.), Thursday, 27 August 2015 07:04 (ten years ago)

something has gone horribly wrong when my starting OF's total age (4 slots) rn is 147 yrs

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 02:12 (ten years ago)

That's an average age of 37! Don't even know how you pulled that off. Is Torii Hunter involved?!

only just grabbed him, kinda feel he could heat up idk. same theory w/ beltran/byrd really

basically my pitching and Donaldson/altuve are keeping this team afloat fwiw

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 14:58 (ten years ago)

I made this for my irl league. I'm Michael. The highlighted part is a deep tiebreaker I'm not sure about. Should be a stressful week!

win rule is just pissing me off so much lately late season/playoffs now. just give it to the fucking starting pitcher if he did a decent job. i really don't get it. why are umps allowed to award it willy-nilly to middle relievers who threw 8 pitches if they don't think the SP did well enough but it doesn't work the other way around? i got fucked out of two wins that way towards the end of the season. now my playoffs w/$450 prize are in somewhat more jeopardy because my wily peralta isn't going to get a W for a well-pitched game and his francisco rodriguez is going to get a W because he blew a save.

i typically actually defend wins as a stat in FBB but fuck wins

qualx, Friday, 11 September 2015 04:02 (ten years ago)

fuck quality starts too don't even start with that

qualx, Friday, 11 September 2015 04:03 (ten years ago)

finished in the 8 seed with a 6-9-6 record. Currently leading against the 1 seed

polyphonic, Friday, 11 September 2015 04:12 (ten years ago)

i can't buy a win to save my life right now. i feel you on that

polyphonic, Friday, 11 September 2015 04:13 (ten years ago)

that's a lot of playoff teams

tbf i lucked my way into a playoff spot (and my money back) with a shit team in my h2h points league because this year the guy in charge thought it'd be a good idea to have 4 3-team divisions

i'm getting destroyed though

qualx, Friday, 11 September 2015 04:14 (ten years ago)

ONCE AGAIN. noah syndergaard allows one run in seven innings. tyler clippard allows three runs in one inning. guess who's getting the win!!

don't ask me why my playoff opponent has tyler clippard i don't know

$560 total on $150 between two leagues. should've been more. missed out on another $20 by .0004 of batting average.

qualx, Tuesday, 6 October 2015 04:00 (ten years ago)

got tied at 2nd on the last day of the year in a roto. FUCK. it was a dumb league with a low innings limit and weekly locked rosters and i managed to do ok but at the end i hit the 1000 IP and the guy in third was way back and he started like 7 SPs in the last week (using the dirty SPARP trick) and just caught me. went from like 90 to 45 on 20... i actually don't even remember how much it is, but it's LESS NOW.

also in my h2h pts league i set a 4-year record for regular season points, then my team plopped one in the semis, and then in the "finals" (when my team wasn't counted because our league is 100% payout to #1) i would have set an all-time points record. fuck fantasy baseball

nerd shit (Will M.), Tuesday, 6 October 2015 05:06 (ten years ago)

in my big money league there's no limits on pitching, at all, because the guy who runs it is an obsessive streamer, and the playoffs every year end in a ridiculous war over every starter

i still managed to pull off a 2.66 ERA and 1.10 WHIP and 235 Ks in 229 innings in the finals though (he had 241 total). i had a freakishly good playoff run, 4 RBI away from sweeping both rounds. i don't think i'll ever have a team this good again.

who hits a home run

I've been clinging to my first place position, down to a half point lead for the past few days. The guy in second place has Jose Fernandez and Mike Leake for a total of 25 Ks over 12 innings so far tonight so that's it for me.
