Normally I don't care about the money end at all, but with Trout and Cabrera signing a couple of days apart--it's almost like a private joke they worked out between themselves--comparisons are inevitable.

Less money than Ellsbury isn't a good comparison, nor is Cabrera's contract. Arbitration wasn't going to pay him $20mn per.

Dave Cameron: I think making life decisions that involve intentionally taking less money than possible are generally as a positive character trait. On the other hand, one could argue that Trout had some responsibility to help elevate the pay scale for those that come after him. It depends on your perspective.

very sad MLB TS 14 for PS4 doesn't come out for another month, I won't be able to rig a bullshit trade between the Angels and Giants for Trout for 27 more days.

he's alright, he is just really weird about money things and gets totally anchored down by fangraphs' trademarks, ie using fWAR as an unquestioned be-all end-all thing that never really requires any further analysis beyond the x.x figure. which isn't surprising, he's gotta support the company product, but it's annoying. and in his chats he comes off as possibly the most humorless and irritable human being in the world (and every answer essentially boils down to "just look at the fWAR figure/look at what ZiPS projects the fWAR figure to be")

that said, this fangraphs article is a fun read that will try to convince you that mike trout will either die horribly or end up as one of the 5 greatest hitters of all time. amazing thing is it doesn't even begin to consider position/defense/baserunning, just pure offense.

you're referring to the one that deals in cumulative standard deviations, right? yeah that line near the end where he (not dave cameron, it was another writer) was like "remember, trout could die in a plane crash tomorrow" or something to that effect was like...ok man you don't really need to cover ALL the bases

seems like he either mashes the ball or whiffs this year. actually include the last month of last year too iirc

He made a point of saying he was going to be more aggressive before the season, so maybe 150 Ks a year will be normal for him now. Everything else seems in order, although you would think it'd be harder to keep his average up in the .325 range the more he strikes out.

he's charging toward a 30% strikeout rate...with pujols going gangbusters, he's not going to walk like he did last year. eventually this is going to be a problem

it's been like 3 games

his K rate was >23% the last 2 months of last season too. it's a real trend

bring it up again when he isn't leading the league in WAR
