also, they put the opening bars of the "Kiner's Korner" theme (brassy '60s sports music) on an 8-second loop for Ralph's 5-minute entrance, which had to induce some seizures.

pedro already seems like he's from another baseball era from far in the past, it's weird.
― Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 10:59 (eighteen years ago)
Like the era when the Mets scored 4 runs per game.
― Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 13:54 (eighteen years ago)
seriously
― Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 14:53 (eighteen years ago)
Duque with the single, steal, and run. Must be the Rickey influence.
(did we really need any more aggression though? Mets lead MLB in steals!)
― Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 03:29 (eighteen years ago)
mets scored what, 7 runs tonight?
goddamn paul lo duca sucks.
― hstencil, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 08:27 (eighteen years ago)
yeah man the last thing i wanna see is a winning team be "aggressive."
― hstencil, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 08:30 (eighteen years ago)
Mets pitchers with >1 stolen base, career
Tom Seaver 4 Orlando Hernandez 2 Danny Frisella 2
― Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 13:18 (eighteen years ago)
Being aggressive on the base paths should be the last of their worries at the moment!
― Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 15:00 (eighteen years ago)
they did make Barrett look silly last night.
― Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 15:01 (eighteen years ago)
From what I've heard, Barrett's needed little help this year in that regard (even disregarding the pitcher fights).
― David R., Wednesday, 18 July 2007 15:08 (eighteen years ago)
Barrett has thrown out 6 of 22 batters for the Padres. Bard has thrown out 7 of 55. Rob Bowen has thrown out 4 of 27 for the Cubs/Padres (1 of 4 with the Cubs). Barrett has been a huge improvement in that area, and yet still is pretty bad, but the Padres pitchers are completely indifferent to steals, so the catchers can't really be blamed too much.
One area Barrett hasn't helped is passed balls, which is his biggest defensive weakness. But he has been hitting very well!
― polyphonic, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 19:28 (eighteen years ago)
Marlon Anderson, star of the game!
― Dr Morbius, Friday, 20 July 2007 16:46 (eighteen years ago)
whoever it is filling in for buck today is so bad he makes me miss him, a little.
― hstencil, Saturday, 21 July 2007 22:32 (eighteen years ago)
ALOHA ADAM WTF?!?!????!?
― hstencil, Saturday, 21 July 2007 22:52 (eighteen years ago)
Looks like Valentin's gone for the rest of the season. Hopefully there won't be a rush fill-in trade to compensate.
― Michael F Gill, Saturday, 21 July 2007 23:06 (eighteen years ago)
ouch.
― hstencil, Saturday, 21 July 2007 23:53 (eighteen years ago)
Nice comeback today. Chip Ambres with the winning RBI? I'll take it!
― Michael F Gill, Sunday, 22 July 2007 23:45 (eighteen years ago)
goddamn lo duca's fault chip ambres hit that rbi.
― hstencil, Monday, 23 July 2007 03:02 (eighteen years ago)
OK, that was almost sorta funny.
― David R., Monday, 23 July 2007 13:42 (eighteen years ago)
it's supposed to be more "instructive" than "funny"
― hstencil, Monday, 23 July 2007 17:19 (eighteen years ago)
The crowd's (immediate) dramatic reaction to Maine's homerun was priceless.
― Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 00:21 (eighteen years ago)
in what way?
― Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 13:55 (eighteen years ago)
Just the way they all did a lower pitched "ohhh!" in disbelief at the crack of the bat.
― Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 17:29 (eighteen years ago)
that jerkface lo duca has four rbis
what an asshole
― maura, Thursday, 26 July 2007 00:22 (eighteen years ago)
Hello Grudzielanek?
― Andy K, Thursday, 26 July 2007 01:47 (eighteen years ago)
I wouldn't doubt it. Mets and Royals seem to be trade-happy with each other the past few years. (Coincidentally they are my two favorite teams)
― Michael F Gill, Thursday, 26 July 2007 03:46 (eighteen years ago)
That said, I don't know if he's the right fit. Definitely a great defensive guy though.
― Michael F Gill, Thursday, 26 July 2007 03:48 (eighteen years ago)
Joe Girardi's G-Nek speculation was wrong.
― Andy K, Thursday, 26 July 2007 14:44 (eighteen years ago)
So I notice there's now a PA address in Spanish at Shea right after the English one. Fun.
― Michael F Gill, Friday, 27 July 2007 23:22 (eighteen years ago)
"El Sosa es tostada."
― Andy K, Friday, 27 July 2007 23:35 (eighteen years ago)
I hope it's not just for merengue night.
― Michael F Gill, Saturday, 28 July 2007 01:37 (eighteen years ago)
it's not, nor is it new.
― hstencil, Saturday, 28 July 2007 01:40 (eighteen years ago)
Well I haven't been to Shea this year.
― Michael F Gill, Saturday, 28 July 2007 01:43 (eighteen years ago)
nor last year apparently.
― hstencil, Saturday, 28 July 2007 01:52 (eighteen years ago)
I don't live in NY!
― Michael F Gill, Saturday, 28 July 2007 01:52 (eighteen years ago)
i didn't know that. i don't have an ilxor.xls.
― hstencil, Saturday, 28 July 2007 01:53 (eighteen years ago)
No prob. I did grow up in Queens though.
― Michael F Gill, Saturday, 28 July 2007 01:54 (eighteen years ago)

― hstencil, Saturday, 28 July 2007 01:58 (eighteen years ago)

― hstencil, Saturday, 28 July 2007 02:44 (eighteen years ago)
pedro throws a simulated game today
first game he'll pitch that counts: about 5 weeks from now
that is, if you consider games against the marlins, pirates, padres or nationals "major league" games
― Tracer Hand, Saturday, 28 July 2007 12:51 (eighteen years ago)
sez the guy who follows a team in the same division as the devil rays!
― hstencil, Saturday, 28 July 2007 13:57 (eighteen years ago)
Pretty sure the Padres were in the playoffs for the last two years, and maybe this year as well.
― polyphonic, Saturday, 28 July 2007 15:33 (eighteen years ago)
stence i know whereof i speak
― Tracer Hand, Saturday, 28 July 2007 15:50 (eighteen years ago)
right. also i wouldn't fuck with the nats, they broke chase utley's hand!
― hstencil, Saturday, 28 July 2007 16:43 (eighteen years ago)
I wouldn't fuck w/ the Nats for fear of what I might catch!
(tho it's worth noting they've been playing .500 ball over the past 70ish games, I believe)
― David R., Saturday, 28 July 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)
it's lo duca's fault da meethook is having such a great year.
― hstencil, Saturday, 28 July 2007 17:41 (eighteen years ago)
