resistance does not require a firearm (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 14 May 2011 23:58 (fifteen years ago)

I assume the league and the Yanks could figure out some sort of real punishment against Fox if they were more explicit, but Fox could spill it obliquely.

Stomp! in the name of love (WmC), Sunday, 15 May 2011 00:08 (fifteen years ago)

Joe Buck declared that the Mets won't be re-signing Reyes, obviously, bacause of their financial problems that he's read about. Such a turdsucker.

the gay bloggers are onto the faggot tweets (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 22 May 2011 04:36 (fifteen years ago)

they're gonna re-sign reyes?

J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 May 2011 04:37 (fifteen years ago)

do you think it's a fait accompli that they're not? suddenly they're the A's?

the gay bloggers are onto the faggot tweets (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 22 May 2011 04:41 (fifteen years ago)

no, i don't -- they could probably do well by being the A's tho

EJ is a standard-issue radio-style puker when he's away from his TNT basketball duties imo; Smoltz is interesting enough to overcome whoever he's with.

HOMER

Uh, hi, Mr. Meyers. I've been doing some thinking, and I've got some ideas to improve the show. I got it right here. (pulls out a piece of paper) One, Poochie needs to be louder, angrier, and have access to a time machine. Two, whenever Poochie's not onscreen, all the other characters should be asking "Where's Poochie"? Three--

Fingers crossed that McCarver's minor heart procedure somehow leaves him with mangled vocal cords.

Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Sunday, 9 October 2011 00:15 (fourteen years ago)

i'm actually liking the Joe Buck game tonight (though i know in the past he has been intolerable).

Tim McCarver is the bigger problem with the Fox broadcast.

Bee OK, Sunday, 9 October 2011 04:25 (fourteen years ago)

Joe Buck just said "game over" with the last out, WTF. haha

Posnanski on the decline of McCarver (and he's absolutely right about the Mets days):

I loved McCarver. Absolutely loved the guy. Every at-bat, it seemed, he taught me baseball. It was that way for a long time. I honestly believe that McCarver was one of the great pioneers in baseball commentary, the John Madden of his sport in many ways. He was the first I knew who could really break down what the pitcher was trying to do, why he was trying to do it, how the hitter was trying to counter it, and so on. He broke down the game in a way I can never remember any other color commentator doing it. And he was a good story teller too. If I'm listing the greatest color commentators in baseball history, he's right up at the top.

Trouble is, McCarver has been doing this a long time. And one of the sad truths is that sports color commentary tends to have an expiration date...

polyphonic, Thursday, 28 March 2013 18:38 (thirteen years ago)

one of the most painful broadcasts ive had to endure was a Sat afternoon FOX game with Joe Buck + Kevin Millar. All the folksy shit gave Buck a ton of discernable contempt and auditory eyerolls. It got so rough I actually started feeling bad for Millar. So no, they won't be a future pairing.
