I'm surprised at my team's jump in the standings over the past week -- my best two hitters are still on the DL. OTOH, I'm happy that Phil Hughes caught teh dead arm because that guy was singlehandedly killing my pitching stats.

i enjoy that my team continues to be near the bottom in the boring bullshit fundamental categories of bbs, gidps & fielding % and still @ the top of the standings

Hart did nothing in the minors, gonna leave him benched in $ league. (That means he will probably hit 3 tacos.)

I grabbed Michael Bourn in the draft because I realized he was gonna be out for awhile.. Feel like I should be keeping MB and jettisoning either Quentin or Hart..

Phil Hughes' arm is fucked, at least for now. But he's keeper eligible and I'd hang onto him but I have other young pitchers and too many guys already on the DL. If anyone wants to make me a trade offer, you can probably have him for spare parts, otherwise I'll release him by the end of the weekend.

Royals purchased the contract of 1B Eric Hosmer from Triple-A Omaha.
Hosmer is expected to arrive in Kansas City in time for Friday's game and should get his first career major league start against the visiting A's. The promising first base prospect has been on an absolute tear at the Triple-A level, sporting a .439/.525/.582 batting line and three home runs through 118 plate appearances. He is worth grabbing in deep mixed leagues.

Don't we all! I'm already sorta regretting trading Cordero, because here's what happened to my other 3 "closers" since making the deal:

- Eduardo Sanchez lost the cards closer job
- Jordan walden looks like he might lose the Angels spot soon.
- Contreras is on the DL, but since Madson is doing well it looks like closer might not be his for the taking upon return. Also, brad lidge.

Looks like my freefall in the standings has started. I had a decent three-week run in second place with a depleted roster, which is a step up from my horrible 2010.

In most years I feel there are only about five closers whose jobs are safe and are unlikely to implode at some point during the season. If I can draft one of the five then great, if not then I might not bother drafting a closer. I've punted saves in the past because I'm more comfortable bringing in a revolving door of middle relievers who can help you in more than one category than hanging onto a closer who'll give you 25-30 SV but will kill you with a 4+ ERA and a shitty BB rate.

Wow, I was worried b/c two of my pitchers were facing eachother, but I really couldn't have drawn it up better myself:
