ya - it's def between those two. i think it depends on your need for pitching vs power/speed.

i'd say that's a toss-up between upton and danks, ellsbury is trash at this point
― ciderpress, Sunday, 30 January 2011 20:25 (thirteen years ago) link
Porcello doesn't seem like keeper material at all -- doesn't go deep (hasn't shown he can do it), not a strikeout pitcher, etc.

Aite, my 5:
Ryan Braun 27.39David Wright 28.3John Danks 25.98Madison Bumgarner 21.68Martin Pardo 27.44
(Reviewing Thermo's rules, I kind of had to pick Danks over Upton anyway.)

I have six candidates and I'm not sure which to pick, honestly. At least my two young guys (Posey and Gonzalez) will be an easy decision, but arguably my two best players (Crawford and Hamilton) will not be keeperable after this season. Verlander and Weeks are a bit younger.

i'd wait until the latest possible to make a decision on morneau tbh...reports about him are still sketchy
― ciderpress, Sunday, 30 January 2011 22:54 (thirteen years ago) link
That's why I said "possibly."
Soria and McCutchen are other possibilities.
― Andy K, Sunday, 30 January 2011 23:03 (thirteen years ago) link
i would think that mccutcheon is a must-keep
― lilwayne.quizrewards4u.com (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 30 January 2011 23:06 (thirteen years ago) link
Given what I have, McCutchen isn't top tier in enough categories (for OFs) to keep (unless Morneau remains risky). Love him, though.
Does any site track NSB (in a sortable manner)?

Let me know if my math is egregiously wrong.. not my forte..
Granderson (28)Hart (28.. probably 29 before season starts)Kemp (26)Ubaldo (26)Price (25)
Looks like my OF is set. I kept Jesus Montero on my roster all goddamn year last year and Im releasing him back into the wild. Will miss u little buddy but I gotta have proven major leaguers in my stable of keepers. Was convinced he was going to be traded at the deadline last year and would be a starting C this year..

Thermo, if one team trades a keeper-eligible player, does the other team need to send another keeper-eligible back to maintain a certain balance?
― Cobra Laser-Face (Leee), Monday, 31 January 2011 02:05 (thirteen years ago) link
I'll probably end up keeping:
Robinson Cano (28)Jose Reyes (27)Brett Anderson (23)Matt Cain (26)
and then either
Michael Napoli (29) or Denard Span (27), depending on how much playing time Napoli is expected to get, and how much speed/power I need.
― 23 24 (Z S), Monday, 31 January 2011 02:12 (thirteen years ago) link
leee - i don't see why they should need to keep balance.
― got electrolytes (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 31 January 2011 03:47 (thirteen years ago) link
probably:
Rasmus (24)J Upton (23)Ade Gonzalez (28)K Morales (27)Aardsma (29)

Aw sheeeeit. I knew my math was garbage. I think I can still keep Quentin right? Even tho I dont really want to, Im pretty sure I dont have anyone older than 26 other than him thats keeper eligible..

i dunno - how old is he?
― got electrolytes (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 1 February 2011 21:04 (thirteen years ago) link
I'm keeping:
Joe Mauer (27)Ryan Zimmerman (26)Clayton Kershaw (23)Stephen Strasburg (22) (RIP)Andre Ethier (28)
... unless I can somehow find space for Chad Billingsley (26). I'd seriously consider keeping him instead of Ethier if it were possible (because of age requirements). Carrying Strasburg for the entire season will sort of suck, but I guess it'll be worth it when he hopefully comes back better than ever and I can LAYETH THE SMACK DOWN ON YOU SUCKAS UNTIL 2018.

I was wondering if maybe we could adapt the rules slightly so that players claimed on waivers ARE eligible as keepers but free agents aren't? I thought that might be a fun wrinkle, so that if someone discards a player the keeper eligibility isn't immediately shot.
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 23:53 (thirteen years ago) link
This would hypothetically apply only to the first time they go on waivers, of course.
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 23:55 (thirteen years ago) link
i thought about something like that (when i was crafting the rules). but i have to keep track of all of this, and while i can check back to drafts etc - i cannot see free agent/waiver moves after a few months. i want to keep this as relatively simple as possible for everyone - including me, your beloved commissioner - because once it gets too confusing (or too much work) it stops being as much fun.

― polyphonic, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 18:01 (thirteen years ago) link
it is? you got a link? all i could find was draft results.
― got electrolytes (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 2 February 2011 18:36 (thirteen years ago) link
Go to League > Transactions, and then you can sort by Drops and then subsort by the individual manager's team (for example) it gives you a list of every player one manager put on waivers for the season, which is a pretty quick and painless way of seeing if a player from that team's draft was ever waived. Or you can go through all the drops without subsorting.
― polyphonic, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 19:38 (thirteen years ago) link
ya - that was there during the season, but is it still there? i thought they took that and a bunch of other stuff down. (can't check as i'm at work)
― got electrolytes (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 2 February 2011 20:37 (thirteen years ago) link
Oh, I didn't realize you were talking about after the season was over. I guess it would be tough to keep track of that stuff between the 2011 and 2012 seasons, although it would be pretty easy for me to make a list of keeper-eligibles at the end of the season.

Wow, I jumped 11 points in the final few days and finished in 9th. What happened to the innings limit? I started benching guys toward the end of the season because I thought it would stop accumulating pitching stats once you went above 1400 IP. Or does it stop only after the day in which you pass 1400 IP? Case in point, I had 1399 IP before yesterday and benched everyone except for Strasburg.
We almost had our own version of this year's wild card races but congrats Poly, your team is more clutch than the Braves and Red Sox combined!
