13-4. Best record in the bigs.

Podzilla with 9 SBs already, Crede catching up with Ichiro in BA.

Unreal.

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Saturday, 23 April 2005 02:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Soxies squeeze out another one!! Best start in 104 years of White Sox baseball. I am seriously in shock right now.

If they can get through tomorrow -- el Duque should be able to beat KC, knock on wood -- it's back to Buehrle for the Oakland series. Wow. This team is rocking and rolling right now.

I can't believe Willsy isn't here to experience this! We miss you Dave! It's not the same without you!!!

Garland is a monster! Goddamn.

Joe Sheehan in Prospectus chat: "This is basically the '03 Royals all over again, and not a start to be taken seriously."

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, so authoritative.

You Work For Irene (dymaxia), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

9-1 in one run games so far, right? I'm guessing that factored into Joe-Shee's proclamation.

mattbot (mattbot), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

If you know who Sheehan is, yeah.

http://baseballprospectus.com/chat/chat.php?chatId=117

Basically, they don't get on base and the pitchers aren't going to have a 2 ERA all year.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

So, wait:

- team OBP hovering around 300?
- 9-1 in one-run games?
- team ERA around 2.00?

Egads!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

9-1 in one-run games is also known as "luck."

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

According to Baseball Prospectus (Friend To The Stat-Fearing Folk!), the ChiSox's Pythagorean record (based solely on runs scored & allowed) is approximately 13-8.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

So, Hunter Wendelstadt: C/D?

I say a definitive, discussion-closing DUD.

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Meh. Joe did kind of lean into it. I'm more steamed about that fuckin BALK last nite. WTF was that crap all about?? And gee, bad calls or no, could Marte please suck it up and win a game here?? god. I hate when Buehrle goes into "bad Buehrle" mode like he does two or three times a season, like that Philadelphia game last year. ah well. An off day and coming home should do them a world of good.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 28 April 2005 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

On the bright side, it wasn't as disastrous as it has been in the past.

GARLAND AGAIN

I know, I don't know what to say. Who woulda thunk?

Greinke gem wasted on bases-loaded walk!

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 5 May 2005 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Make that two! Some Ozzieball...

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 5 May 2005 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Dear Kansas City Royals,

Please get some god damned offense. This is getting ridiculous.

Sincerely,

The man who took Zach Greinke in the sixth round of the fantasy draft and has nothing to show for it.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 5 May 2005 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I was at that game on the 5th. Sox are now 3-0 with me in attendance.

What is it now, 7 in a row? Still waiting for that choke....

it's mashed potato time! (dymaxia), Saturday, 7 May 2005 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

wow, what a pitch Jonnie-boy just made at 3-2 on one Miguel Tejada, getting him to whiff with two-outs in the bottom of the eigth with a men on at the corners and a 1 run lead. good Jon. FEARLESS Jon. the best single pitch I've ever seen him make.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 13 May 2005 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

26-9, still best record in the bigs, and the Sox have extended their record of consecutive games with a lead to 35.

Considering Dye and Konerko are still below .200 and Iguchi is the only starter above .300, AND the Big Hurt still hasn't played one out this year, all of the above hosannas are v. well deserved.

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Friday, 13 May 2005 02:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I like how Sammy chickened out. Abcess my ass.

and the Hawkaroo was back, rocking the eyepatch! Momus has nothing on the Hawk.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 13 May 2005 03:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Rob, I was watching the trifecta of awesome reality TV tonight (Survivor, Apprentice, Project Greenlight finale), so I missed almost all the game, and missed Hawk's return. And tomorrow night is dinner with some friends and then the Mountain Goats, so I won't be able to really watch the O's/Sox matchup 'til Saturday. I guess I should Tivo tomorrow's game.

And yeah, Sammy's timing on his foot seems a bit curious. He's pussing out.

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Friday, 13 May 2005 03:08 (twenty-one years ago)

from YHOO

Views: Buehrle's won five of his seven starts and he's yielding a 3.78 ERA with a 1.09 WHIP. In combo leagues, because of a freak incident to his foot this spring, which turned out to be nothing, you were likely to get him later than normal at the draft. He's paying off big dividends.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 14 May 2005 06:04 (twenty-one years ago)

John Sayles' next movie, 173 Men Out, is an expose of the year the AL threw the '05 season.

to return to garland v. o's other night...i don't think i've ever seen so many gd broken bats in a game.

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Saturday, 14 May 2005 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I have to say, I'm still skeptical of the ChiSox and their success, but I'm starting to come around to Ozzie's finer points. A quote from the NY Daily News (courtesy of BP): "How many managers can win a game for their team? I tell my team, 'You want to win? Don't give me a chance to [bleep] it up. Go throw a shutout and then I'll just sit here and look smart. Don't give me a chance to [bleep] it up.'"

Garland -- Buehrle --

two all-* starting pitchers? witha Jon G as starter? can a chicagoan dream? Ok so we've got maddux and glavine, but where the hell is our Smoltz? Fredy Garcia what is your damage?? can Damaso Marte (my guy!!) stop losing games for the guys? A.J. Pierzysnki is a cancer NOT!

Good guys wear black!

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 19 May 2005 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

see, I love them too

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 19 May 2005 02:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i love that garland is 8-0. jon garland! 8-0!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 19 May 2005 03:43 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
i watched today's extra-inning loss to the indians on wgn. and dear god what annoying announcers. at least harry caray had the excuse of being blind/drunk.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Monday, 6 June 2005 02:35 (twenty-one years ago)

What happened to Hawk? I tend not to catch many games on TV, so I didn't realize he was out of the announcers' booth for a while.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 6 June 2005 02:47 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i was just thinking earlier today that the main reason why i don't watch much of the sox games (other than the fact that baseball is boring. face it, it is) is due to how grating i find hawk and dj. now if they would have their lil spats with greater frequency, i'd be glued to the screen..

oops (Oops), Monday, 6 June 2005 03:46 (twenty-one years ago)

whatever happened to WIMPY?

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Monday, 6 June 2005 03:56 (twenty-one years ago)

other than the fact that baseball is boring. face it, it is

On this board, you might have some trouble getting people to agree with this statement.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 6 June 2005 04:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, perhaps you mistook this board for the I Love Baseball Despite Its Boringness board.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 6 June 2005 04:56 (twenty-one years ago)

"HE GONE"

mookieproof (mookieproof), Monday, 6 June 2005 06:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, perhaps you mistook this board for the I Love Baseball Despite Its Boringness board.

I just took that as being understood, as there's no other way to love it. boring things are ok. boring gets a bad rap.

oops (Oops), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Methinks you are confusing LEISURELY with boring.

"I didn't like what they did to that young pitcher, whatshisname, sending him up against Texas. That was stupid. That was terrible."
--Chicago mayor Richard M. Daley, on the White Sox starting prospect Brandon McCarthy against Texas (Chicago Sun-Times)

"I wouldn't touch that with a 10-foot pole."
--A spokeswoman for the White Sox, when asked for a comment on Daley’s remarks

"Well, everybody has their own opinion. I think I've been criticized by so many people it doesn't shock me."
--White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, on Daley’s comments

"Well there is a thing I would say to the mayor. I would say I've been in this country for 25 years and I don't have American citizenship. He should help me do that. I'll criticize him because they don't give me American citizenship."
--Guillen

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 6 June 2005 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

haha Ithinks I am too! I was in fact searching for a term besides boring.
still one man's leisurely is another man's boring. let's just say baseball has a higher propensity to be boring. there's about 5 minutes or so of action stretched out among 3 hours.
but i digress...

oops (Oops), Monday, 6 June 2005 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Ozzie is quickly climbing my Most Favorite Baseball Person Ever list. Even if he was a crap manager, his pullquotes have justified his extension.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 6 June 2005 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Wimpy is doing Braves games for Fox Sports Net?

WTF is up with this pic, tho?

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 6 June 2005 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Upon further inspection, it's the same as the one Gear! posted but the colors are slightly more ... intense.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 6 June 2005 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

mmmm ketchup

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Baseball can take a swerve into boring quite easily. The third time the pitcher steps off the rubber or the hitter needs to adjust his crotch, etc., I'm out. Throw the damn ball, hit the damn ball, git r done.
