yes, in favor of who? I don't think they want Humber up yet.

Dr Morbius, Monday, 7 May 2007 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

Humber Humber?

Leee, Monday, 7 May 2007 17:00 (nineteen years ago)

I totally missed that Burgos was sent to New Orleans.

Dr Morbius, Monday, 7 May 2007 17:07 (nineteen years ago)

what's with the Mets' pitching to various Molinas?

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 13:53 (nineteen years ago)

The pitching wasn't the problem yesterday, if any of the Mets could have caught the ball it would have been a fairly close game.

Steve Shasta, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, Shawn Green is the new...Dave Kingman? (at least in the field)

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 15:29 (nineteen years ago)

I'd agree the defense needs more work than pitching/batting at the moment. Perez needs to work on keeping focus when he gives up a run or has a tough innning.

Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 23:09 (nineteen years ago)

i politely disagree, he had to get 5 outs in the 5th inning last night and his manager made him put Bonds on intentionally twice. only 2 of the 9 runs were earned.

Steve Shasta, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 23:31 (nineteen years ago)

True, he should have been out of that inning a couple of times.

Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 02:14 (nineteen years ago)

CARLOS THE BARBER

hstencil, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 03:56 (nineteen years ago)

Shawn Green is not flattered by that look

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 13:34 (nineteen years ago)

no way, the jewish skinhead look is always classic!

hstencil, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

not with those ears.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 16:26 (nineteen years ago)

Going to game today!

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

GOTAY, OK!

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 20:07 (nineteen years ago)

Ha - I saw this in the box score:

E - E Alfonzo (3)

and thought HEY EDGARDO!

David R., Wednesday, 9 May 2007 20:30 (nineteen years ago)

sheeeit

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 21:02 (nineteen years ago)

FYI, Eliezer is Edgardo's cousin.

Leee, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 21:42 (nineteen years ago)

So glad to see Armando for once.

Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 22:16 (nineteen years ago)

How bad was the officiating today? Maine was getting screwed.

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 22:34 (nineteen years ago)

oh, benitez

maura, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 22:39 (nineteen years ago)

The officiating was even weirder last night, the home plate umpire would literally take 3 seconds to call a strike after the ball hit the catcher's glove.

Michael F Gill, Thursday, 10 May 2007 01:42 (nineteen years ago)

wtf with "officiating," guys? it's umpiring, pay no attention to the lingo that bloodies Steve Nash.

I got home just in time to watch the top of the 9th!

Those haircuts have really uglied up this team.

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 10 May 2007 13:41 (nineteen years ago)

Ugliest team on the court?

mattbot, Thursday, 10 May 2007 13:47 (nineteen years ago)

also, there was a TV shot of the shaved heads in the dugout, and Keith Hernandez said "Achtung!"

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 10 May 2007 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

Jim Baker, Prospectus:

The Mets and Brewers are one-two in team OPS and one-four in runs allowed per game, so it's the best of all possible worlds colliding at Shea Stadium this weekend. The Brewers are getting the better end of the pitching matchups, with Jeff Suppan scheduled to face Jorge Sosa tonight, Ben Sheets against the struggling Mike Pelfrey tomorrow night, and Chris Capuano against the enigmatic Oliver Perez on Sunday. You could almost give the edge to Milwaukee on that account in all three games, unless the focused Perez shows up, in which case he's every bit as effective as Capuano.

By and large, Mets pitchers have great BABIP numbers. Among their pitchers with significant innings, only Pelfrey (.306) and Perez (.293) are near .300. Perez can get away with it more than Pelfrey can because he's striking out more than three times as many hitters. When your K-rate is down under four as Pelfrey's is, though, you can't afford to have so many balls dropping in for hits. New York has the kind of offense that can even up pitching mismatchups, though–-especially if Carlos Delgado starts chipping in.

Dr Morbius, Friday, 11 May 2007 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

Newhan finally does something.

Michael F Gill, Saturday, 12 May 2007 18:38 (nineteen years ago)

send pelfry down, needs more "seasoning"

-- gershy, Monday, 7 May 2007 03:47 (5 days ago)

^^^^^^^
Me OTM

gershy, Saturday, 12 May 2007 19:44 (nineteen years ago)

who do you have replacing him then?

mookieproof, Saturday, 12 May 2007 20:56 (nineteen years ago)

I'm thinking they will keep Sosa up (unless he has a major relapse), and when Duque/Pedro comes back Pelfrey will be sent down.

Michael F Gill, Saturday, 12 May 2007 23:15 (nineteen years ago)

0-5, 6.53 era, more walks than strikeouts - guy isn't ready
and with a revived Braves squad, I don't think the mets have the luxury to have him leisurely work it out, that's what the minors are for, no?

how about sele for a couple of starts? see how it works, he started like 15 games for the dodgers last year, results weren't terrible

gershy, Saturday, 12 May 2007 23:31 (nineteen years ago)

NEW YORK (AP) -- The New York Mets optioned struggling right-hander Mike Pelfrey to Triple-A New Orleans on Sunday and called up outfielder Carlos Gomez for insurance with Moises Alou sitting out.
Pelfrey won the fifth spot in the rotation in spring training but went 0-5 with a 6.53 ERA in six starts for the Mets. He allowed four runs and eight hits in five innings in New York's 12-3 loss to Milwaukee on Saturday.
"It's a business," Pelfrey said. "I didn't win any games. You have to win to be here. Right now I think it's for the best."
The Mets didn't immediately announce a starter to replace Pelfrey, who was set to go against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday, but manager Willie Randolph mentioned reliever Aaron Sele and minor league left-hander Jason Vargas as possibilities.
Sele is 1-0 with a 4.11 ERA in nine relief appearances but has been a starter for most of his career. He went 8-6 with a 4.53 ERA in 28 games with the Dodgers last season, 15 starts.
Vargas is 2-3 with a 5.30 ERA in seven starts with New Orleans. He was scheduled to start for the Zephyrs at Las Vegas on Sunday.
Gomez made his major league debut Sunday against the Brewers, getting the start in right field. The 21-year-old hit .286 with two homers and 13 RBIs with the Zephyrs. He also stole 17 bases.
Gomez doubled down the third-base line in the second inning in first at-bat and scored on Damion Easley's single.
The Mets needed another outfielder with Alou out with a strained left quadriceps and possibly heading for the disabled list. He came out in the seventh inning of Saturday's loss and an MRI exam revealed some bleeding in the quad.
"I don't feel very good right now so I'm not optimistic about it," Alou said.
Alou was getting treatment for the injury and said he hopes to avoid the disabled list. He's hitting .318 with two homers and 13 RBIs despite also having to deal with shoulder and knee problems this season.
Endy Chavez started in left field against Milwaukee.
Pelfrey found out he was headed for New Orleans before Sunday's game and talked to some teammates as he got dressed to leave the stadium. The 23-year-old struggled with his control some with New York, walking 17 in 30 1-3 innings and also hitting four batters with pitches.
"He's young," Randolph said. "He's going to be here, eventually, so give him a chance to exhale a little bit and continue to work on his skills."

gershy, Sunday, 13 May 2007 20:04 (nineteen years ago)

wow, as long as damion easley keeps being the mets' go-to guy, you guys might have a chance!

Dimension 5ive, Monday, 14 May 2007 20:21 (nineteen years ago)

someone's a little bitter!

i was at tonight's game and one thing (not the only thing) that alarmed me: aaron heilman came out to 'don't fear the reaper'!

maura, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 03:13 (nineteen years ago)

MAURA THIS WAS NOT MEANT FOR YOU. or the mets really, I was being a dick because of brewer-thread mini-beef. all is well now. I cant even hate on the mets because a) they are good and b) they are my son's like sixth-favorite team and c) I had lots of fun every time I went to shea in the 1990s.

Dimension 5ive, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 03:16 (nineteen years ago)

and yes that is disturbing. 'came another baserunner / and it was clear he couldn't go on'

Dimension 5ive, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 03:17 (nineteen years ago)

ahaha it's all ok :)

maura, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

D5, pls tell me you don't let your son do The Wave.

haha, POOR LOU.

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

you mean POUR LOU (ONE FOR THE ROAD).

David R., Tuesday, 15 May 2007 13:56 (nineteen years ago)

Outside of the clubhouse, of course.

David R., Tuesday, 15 May 2007 13:56 (nineteen years ago)

my son will never do a wave. in fact, he refuses to even wave hello or goodbye.

[by the way, he went 2-4 in his last little league game, hustling out two infield hits and sparking a 5th inning rally that put his team back on top 15-12. SMALL BALL YAY. at the end of that inning, he was catching and a pitch knocked the wind out of him -- he didn't cry or anything. what a difference a year makes yo.]

Dimension 5ive, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

[EXCELLENT!]

Andy K, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

[i know right, but his favorite part was getting a pizza pretzel from the concession stand after the game. and he's just as into memorizing show tunes and tapdancing as he is in baseball. okay enuf about him, back to mets.]

Dimension 5ive, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 14:27 (nineteen years ago)

[I made two flyball errors inna Willy Mo Pena stylee in my intracompany softball game yesterday. They lead to at least 6 runs total. We lost 18-6.]

[Which is just to say I am jealous of the Cibula sports gene.]

David R., Tuesday, 15 May 2007 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

[omg the c1bula sports gene hahahahahahahahahahahaha. did i mention that the combined distance on sammy's two singles was about 26 feet? did i mention that i was banished to right field duty by seventh grade but refused to take the hint for THREE MORE YEARS?]

Dimension 5ive, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

[Just tell him Productive Outs don't exist before the 8th inning]

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

[Supposedly, some of the dudes on the other team were surprised that our "big guys," me included, could hustle down the line so fast. I wanted to sit on those smug in-shape SOBs.]

David R., Tuesday, 15 May 2007 14:58 (nineteen years ago)

[Haha, I don't need to demonstrate the Productive Out Fallacy; Ned Yost is doing that for me.]

[Daver I was on a bar's softball team in Chi and the other team said the same thing about me and the other "big guys" on our team. It was the last game we won, because then our pitcher and our two best hitters quit to join the neighborhood lesbian team and we were left toothless. For at least two guys on our team, that was not an exaggeration.]

Dimension 5ive, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

they are my son's like sixth-favorite team

[I love that he has a 6th favorite team! Right now, I barely have 1!]

Leee, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 16:58 (nineteen years ago)

John Maine:

April / May
WHIP 1.05 / 1.65
BAA .159 / .290
