reddit and metafilter seem to be 'highbrow' w/r/t rest of the internet

feel like there's an ilx zing here somewhere but

that's why if ilx ceases to exist i will leave the internet 4ever

thinking maybe the voting systems on those sites creates some sort of dystopian heard mentality xp

like if people arent into what youre saying it ceases to have ever been said

I should clarify and say that that's what I've heard about those two sites - metafilter is useful sometimes for like getting to the bottom of some internet hoax or something, it always seems to come up in google results

ive only ever investigated reddit via this thread and i watched a talk by the metafilter guy via youtube - both sites seem k creepily into themselves for being reasonable

I just look for the pics. It's where I found that border shot of TJ. Some other cool burbs pix as well.

yeah I look at reddit sometimes when really bored for links but feel guilty while doing it cause the culture is so embarrassing, I feel like ilx is looking over my shoulder and judging me

They try so hard to make memes. Someone posted a picture of an analog clock with "IIII" in the 4 position, circling it with a big CLOCK FAIL. Cracked me up.

I mean 4chan is the true underbelly of the web, but at least their suicides are real.

4chan has the decency to be funny, if completely amoral. & the 4chan community structure is pretty fascinating.

can i tell you something. i was at this event at science club in dc (yuri's night, in honor of the anniversary of yuri gagarin spaceflight). by the time i got there the place was very crowded, the upstairs was full.. i got a gin and tonic and walked around for a bit anyway. i found that the room in back past the bar didn't have too many people, and the majority of the tables there were all occupied by large, unfriendly looking dudes in polo shirts who were just sitting there not interacting with anyone else

later on that evening on the twitters someone posted a photo of those tables, captioned REDDIT IS IN THE HOUSE
