I watched it last night and I'm still reeling. makes Oldboy/Irreversible/Salo/(insert shocking art film title here) look like an episode of Teletubbies, but it's actually a very well-made movie if you can get past, y'know, pretty much all of the content without collapsing into a singularity of horror. hard to talk about it without spoiling all the most gruesome stuff but OTOH the stuff it shows is so preposterously shocking that spoilers almost seem kind of quaint.

There was some talk about it on a horror film thread. I am not into this kind of thing, but I love the title!

not really a fan of the Cinema of Degradation - I think Chan-Wook Park is exactly as far as I'm willing to go in that direction, and whether I think he's good or a fuckin' asshole kinda depends on my mood

Friend of mine watched this and gave me and another friend a description of some of the scenes in a pub a few days later. I really wish he hadn't because i was hoping the whole time that no one around could overhear. Because jeez oh, some really wrong shit.

Although I thought the very, very last shot gave it this sort of stupidly "lol" thing that the film really didn't need.

I read the wikipedia and the movie is just "he went there" yeah?

after reading abt the banning, it literally took me abt 30 seconds to view the uncut version online - bbfc are such dicks. movie itself is kinda like a cretinised version of 'funny games'

I saw this at Fantasia for what I assume was its North American premiere. Not much good on its own, but interesting as a double feature with another, *very* different movie touching on Serbian history from (iirc) the same screenwriter, Tears for Sale.

Not that Serbian film, but a Serbian film*:
Black Bomber is a pirate radio DJ who broadcasts subversive anti-govt messages and falls in love with the frontwoman of a punk rock band. He also suffers from "black spots" that prevent him from remembering any good times he's had, and so walks around with a walkman to try to record them. Tiyl: Repo Man, Tank Girl, Blade Runner.
