You know, quiet, serious, "character-driven" legal dramas. E.g. Michael Clayton is one of these, but A Few Good Men is not.

You liked Absence of Malice? Except for Newman and Melinda Dillon, it's not remotely credible.

The best legal drama I've seen is Anatomy of a Murder. I'm very fond of Erin Brockovich too.

Does Reversal of Fortune count here?

I did like Absence of Malice, yeah. I realize I'm in a minority here, if that's what you mean by credible.

But I guess I'm more interested in that type of legal drama — the ones that aren't really about the courtroom per se, if they even show it.

Thanks for the recommendations. Please keep them coming and don't rule out courtroom dramas because of what I just said.

Yeah, ROF is good.

The William Friedkin TV movie remake of 12 Angry Men is something to see. For many reasons.

If you've never seen Inherit the Wind then that's a lot of fun, but like 12 Angry Men I wouldn't exactly call it quiet. Also I enjoyed Judgement at Nuremberg but be warned it's long and earnest.

Oh wow and Paths of Glory, can't believe I forgot that. I liked 'Breaker' Morant when I saw it as a teen.

Not sure it's like AOM or The Verdict, but it is a character-driven legal drama, and it is very -- very -- good, albeit devestatingly sad: The Sweet Hereafter.

Anatomy of Murder: very good. slow first hour, but once it got going i think it's probably thew longest film i didn't want to end.
