Classic I say.

Agreed. It is, of course, a stereotypical mid-90s indie. But watching this film the summer after I graduated college made me laugh and shudder all at once.

mmmmm Olivia d'Abo

"Wouldn't that have been embarrasing if I had worn my goatee tonight?"

I agree with the mid 90s indie stereotype qualities of the movie, but Baumbach's script is real nice. He's much better at the young witty dialogue thing than most of his contemporaries. Mr. Jealosuy and Highball were quite enjoyable, quotable films as well ("everybody feel it, it's Felix's birthday"). I look forward to the film he's currently making. He also co-wrote the new Wes Anderson.

I loved this movie once upon a time, but after having seen it about 35 times on IFC, it seems too stereotypically indie to appreciate anymore.

It's starting to show its age a bit, but this movie meant a lot to me at one time in my life. Casting is superb, most of the acting is really great and there are glimpses of sincerity that transcend the formulaic situations and gimmicky structure (and the hideous Freedy Johnston song on the soundtrack). Been waiting for Baumbach to come through with a suitable follow-up.

This has always been one of my all time favorites and I know most of it by heart. I watched it recently with two friends who had never seen it and they didn't see the appeal. I think it's one of those films you had to have been at at certain age and liked when it first came out.

Not bad, but Elliot Gould's cameo is fantastic.

I was just thinking of this movie. Haven't seen it in years, but it used to be one of my favorites. A lot of OTMs upthread: I agree that Freedy Johnston song is terrible in general and even worse as a closing song; I too first watched this right after graduating college, so it probably hit home more than it would if I had seen it for the first time recently; and I agree the casting was great.

Speaking of casting, it seems like I haven't seen any of the actors from K&S in anything else, but I'm sure they're all in unwatched TV shows or indie movies or something. The only exception I can think of offhand is Josh Hamilton. Before "Django Unchained" there was a trailer for a seemingly-terrible horror movie called "Dark Skies" that has him playing the main character.
