Were you breastfed when you were a baby?

Me, I have no clue.... I can't remember anything from when I was an infant, I never asked my mom, and she never told me.

But I was wondering if this is something most people know. Or better yet, can actually remember doing.

One of my mom's breasts had leche and the other had jugo de naranja. It made me the person I am today.

My mother's milk never came in so I was formula fed.

And I had the recurrent ear infections to prove it.

ha me too. my ears are so fucked. I still have a hole in my left eardrum and 40% hearing loss there.

nope, formula fed. also have hearing loss in one ear due to infections...was also prone to bronchitis, is that related too?

My son wasn't breastfed either due to wife being as a shitload of psych meds and he is Charlie ear infection.

Of course friends kids were all breastfed and they get far more ear infections than my son.

Yeah, I mean, obvious there are tons of other factors etc. but there is at least a little bit of a link.

I wasn't, nor were any of my sisters. I just recently found this out, though!

As far as I'm aware, in the 50s, 60s and into the 70s (and prob early 80s) it was commonly thought that formula was superior to breast milk in terms of nutrition. Many doctors went so far as to actively discouraged new moms from breastfeeding for decades so, given the age of the average ILX poster, it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of the (American) people on ILX weren't breastfed. I asked my mom about this recently and she said it just wasn't promoted at all. She probably could have successfully breastfed with a little coaching and guidance but at that time they just really didn't do that.

my mother didn't breastfeed my sister either, born in 81. I just think my mother wasn't into breastfeeding.

yeah, even though i bit her really badly, my mum still thought it was important. apparently when i was two i got really jealous of my sister getting breastfed a year after i was weened, and would throw hissy fits.

Earlier than that--the problem with breastfeeding, in the early-to-mid 20th century, was that you couldn't deliver an exact dose of feeding and you might end up feeding the kid at 11:06 instead of right at 11:00.
